Slimming World for the meetings and a VLCD Diet

Hello everyone!

Would it be ok to join Slimming World for the meetings and motivation, while being on a VLCD diet ?

I would like to talk to people and have that extra motivation losing weight with new friends, so thats why I would love to join it.

I am doing Exante at the moment so I hope they allow me there.

Many thanks!

Tbh i think you'd need to find a group dedicated to supporting people on a VLCD. Having been on one myself before i know the support you need whilst following a VLCD is completely different to the support you'd get whilst following SW.
Have you maybe thought about transferring to the Cambridge Diet & finding a group you could join weekly. I know when i was on it, meeting people who understood just what you're going through on a VLCD is something you really need. You just wouldn't get that at SW.
Good luck whatever you decide to do. *hugs*

Hey Thanks for the reply Rayven!

I was on the Cambridge diet myself, but swapped for Exante as its more flexible due to buying the products online and obviously the huge savings from CD.

I never heard about groups of people doing a VLCD, the only thing remotely similar is perhaps LighterLife but its only for those on the diet itself.

Is there something of a Slimming World for people on various VLCDs ?

If not, then I will join Slimming World and go along enjoying the meetings and the people, and when its time to measure the weight losses I can grin myself to the scales and in a way be ultra happy that I lost a lot compared to the majority of people on a regular diet! ;-)

to be honest I think it would be very unfair , you would certainly win slimmer of the week every week and the people would want to know what you are doing to loose so quickly , I am sure that if you told them you were on a VLCD they wouldnt be happy for you to be on SW ( there may be legal / health issues ) , and it may make some of the people loosing slowly on SW demotivated !
I have just switched from CD to SW ( as I need to start training for race for life and need to eat ) and I did consider doing this but dont think it would be fair

I dont know of any other groups for peple on VLCD except the support her on minimins . I hope you find what you are looking for :)

I think having to sit there listening to all the wonderful food everyone's been eating would drive you insane! Lol! :)

I'd be a bit annoyed if someone was coming to class but not even attempting to follow SW - not because of SOW as i don't worry about that , but just becausr it doesn't help anyone. We all sharr recipe and strategies at group - not sure how you could contribute, or what you'd get out of it either. Plus VLCD is almost the anti SW diet

I understand the need to be involved in a group setting, but i too feel doing this would be very unfair on the SW members as it would be so demotivating to see someone losing so much in such a short space of time and getting SOTW every week.

Maybe see if there are any groups in your area for a VLCD or if not start one yourself? xx

. . .

I am sorry, as a general rule I try not to be judgmental, but if you are serious about this then I think it is appalling.

It sounds to me as if you will be sneering at and gloating over a class full of people who are working hard, following a sensible diet, and losing weight gradually.

I am honestly quite shocked.

Mmm Its true that it would be very unfair to people doing the SW.

I would feel bad being there, now thinking of it...

But I dont want to lose weight alone, and while this forum is amazing in terms of online support, I would be happier if I had an "offline" support and talk with people as well...

And the consultant thing is one on one, not really helpful if I must say so.

What are my options?

I cant join SW, cant join WeightWatchers and LighterLife is out of question for the absurd price...

Bah, I am feeling even lower now...

You are right, it would not be very nice and I guess my choice of words were not the right ones either.
I wouldn't be going there to brag about the weight loss, but more just to hang around with people who are as well trying to lose weight, be it more or less per week its just a number.
It would be more about us working towards the same goal.

What can I do then? Where can I go to be with people who are also losing weight and don't mind socialising with people in different diets ?

I have to agree with the others - its a really bad idea. If you didnt admit to being on a VLCD (and if you did Im almost sure they wouldnt allow you to join) you could really be doing so much damage to other peoples dieting. Youd have absolutely nothing in common with people at SW - apart from losing weight but what could you contribute? What would you learn? Can you imagine being held up as SOTW all the time with VLCD weights and people are there losing half/1 lbs a week

Seriously please dont even consider it. Its a really awful idea

I think you would be the perfect person to set up your own group. You could meet somewhere local and maybe place and ad in your local paper looking for like minded people. Alternatively, you could ask an SW leader if you can attend, but only for image therapy and not to get weighed. Therefore, you wouldn't be a contender for SOW and you can still get some support. There is no harm in asking.

It is a bad idea...:cry::cry:

Where could I go to be with people also losing weight and motivating each other?

I know here is an obvious choice, but something away from the PC actually you know...
Im not here more often because I am in front of the computer so much every single day that by the time I get to relax, the last thing on earth I want to see is my laptop.

I think its time to say:

WHAT WOULD JESUS DO?

lol I dont know why I am laughing, but I guess its better than to cry right now. :(:(

This is going to sound really obvious, but if you want to join a SW class for the group support, why don't you join and do the SW diet?

I thought about that, but since I failed the "sensible eating" approach I took the food out of the equation and decided a VLCD would be a better option.

Being on a VLCD I do not fall into temptation with food and since I have been doing this and being successful with losing around 3 stones in 2 months, I don't think SW would give me better results at my weight range.

I would definitely consider it when I am nearing the 15st mark, but for now I cant touch conventional food.

I just want a group of people to talk about losing weight, the struggles and experiences, etc... That motivates me more as I am a very social person.

Oh well, guess I will have to start thinking in forming something like that then if a multi-diet club does not exist.
Which is strange, considering we are all doing the same thing really, just trying to be in a healthier and happier self.

Have you tried asking your doctor or someone at your local surgery? If there are any kind of weight loss support groups in your area they would probably know about them. Or maybe your Exante consultant could put you in touch with other people near you who are also doing it.

Not necessarily the case. I started SW 160lbs lighter than you and lost 2 stone in 2 months and got to target 11.5 months later after losing 7 stone . As someone with more weight to loss you should find that you have bigger losses. And even if they are a bit lower that vlcd doesn't the benefit that you can eat normal food outweigh that by miles?

not always no. Lol. I know at the moment like most people on a VLCD it really is the best option for me. A VLCD isn't all about the speed of the weight loss although it is a huge factor. I know I for one couldn't go back to the losses I was having on WW just now. Even guaranteeing me 7 - 10lbs a month wouldn't entice me back just now

Someone needs to set up an offline Minimins. :)

I would be very happy losing 2 stones in 2 months and eating "normally"!

But I fear that control might be an issue, after all if we all had control we wouldn't be overweight in the first place.

Trying it out for a month or two is something I am inclined to do, but I would have to go out of ketosis and re introduce food again.

I really have to try for at least 2 months. I just feel so big that all I want is a quick and real loss of weight, which I am having on the Exante diet.

But the thought of eating regular food is very tempting and I would need serious emotional and mental counselling to stick to the plan.
