Socialising

So i avoided going anywhere the last weekend, as i just find it so awkward to go into the whole .. "im on a diet so i cant eat or drink anything!" As people (my friends and fam anyway) still try and give you stuff to eat or drink and get really offended if you dont have anything. But we've been invited to two 1st birthdays the next two weekends in a row which i really cant avoid, and im absolutely dreading it.

What do u guys do at social occasions? Do you take a tetra with you? My CDC hasnt had any so ive just got soups and shakes so im not sure what to do.

I wish i didnt have to go as the temptation is bad enough without someone trying to ram food down your throat! But im just not going to be able to get out of these ones. Any advice?

I usually drink lot's of water, and have my tetra before I go, take fizzy mineral water and stay on that all night with ice. I'm now on ss+ as prefer it to ss, and get to have a small meal each day, so having that before I go too, helps.

I would ask your CDC to get some tetra's in if she doesnt have any, or did you mean she hasn't had any cravings? I'm sure everyone has cravings on the CD at one time or another, it's what you do with it that counts - lots of water!
xx

Cool, will deffo try and load up before i go so that i wont be able to stomach eating anymore anyway.

I meant she doesnt have tetras, so i just have soups and shakes and we will have to stay there for quite some time so not sure how to have my meal without drawing too much attention to myself.

But how do u cope with people insisting you eat/drink something? My close family and friends have all been prewarned so normally its fine as they are very understanding and dont protest, but these people we dont know that well and i dont want to appear rude by going to their house and refusing to have anything.

If people continue to offer me food and drink, I simply ask them to respect my wishes and stop offerring it! If they continue after this, I guess all you can do is just keep saying no! xx

Rather than explaining about the diet i've just said i'm detoxing for the month of June (which will soon be month of july) and that i'm being really really good. Not had any bad responses from that, in fact, more people say oh i wish i could do that but i cant manage without .........

My socialising depends on who it is with. some people pressure me too but i usually plan ahead and eat either fish or chicken with a small bit of greens. For drinks i take sparkling water with ice, looks the part. nobody questions you too much if you are "seen" to be eating and drinking. Im invited out to two events this next week and plan to eat just chicken, people really do understand in the end. I also try to change the subject from eating and drinking to distract them.

Molly and Wellandgood, I like both of your ideas. It's tru, if you are seen to be eating, even if it's just holding a small plate with bits on it.. no one batters an eye lid. I've only told my mum and sister, my work colleagues know (some of) but my BF doesn't. I've said that I'm low carbing when we go out to eat, but move in with him on Sat, so that's that cat out of the bag, lol.. xxx

No one should ever be ashamed of doing CD (not that you are nikki)It is a nutritionally balanced supplement and actually improves our health in several ways. If a body builder goes on a crash diet of protien, low carbs then people accept it. So, why not us too? I would never explain to those who have closed minds that im on a "diet". Im on a doctors approved food supplement and can eat within limits to improve my health and i feel really good at the moment.

Will your CDC have some tetras in by the weekend? CDCs are supposed to carry the whole range - and it sounds like you need them!

Social occasions are tough, I agree. I always say you have to be really selfish to do CD - and most of us aren't used to being selfish. It can be tricky saying 'no' to well-meaning food offers, but it can be done. I've certainly done it and so have many other people here.

There are ways round things though. If you don't want to admit to being on CD, you could always say you're feeling a bit yacky and don't want to eat. Or that you've just eaten. The truth is often better though, so that you don't have to come up with an original excuse the next time you see those friends. :)
