Support Needed

Hi Guys,

I am a newbie here, but I have been reading other posts and blogs for the past week.

Today is my 6th day of taking Xenical, after being diagnosed with PCOS.

So far I think I am doing okay - I have had no toilet problems, so that must mean I'm eating okay (sticking to the 5% fat rule), and I am trying to exercise when I can - I went swimming on Monday and I plan to again this evening.

I have a terrible habit of weighing myself everyday though. I had lost 4lbs but today on the scales I seemed to have gained a pound. :( I know weighing myself everyday isn't the best idea as weight fluctuates but I wake up in the morning and I can't wait to see how I'm doing.

I wanted to hear some success stories from you guys, I have quite a bit to loose (8 - 9 stone) so I know this is going to take a while.

Kelly xxx

PS. I have been using this website for meal ideas and it's brilliant:

hi kelly, like you i am a compulsive scales hopper, can't help myself! stick with it, if youre sticking to it then your weight can't help but go down, overall. i wish i could stop doing it every morning but its so hard... and i get to the point when if its down - good day, if its up - bad mood, bad day. i might actually get my hubby to hide the scales at home and give me them once a week, but i've got scales sitting here beside me at work and i use them ever day too arrrrgh!!

Hi Kelly and welcome to Xenical, it sounds as though you are doing really well so far, that's great. Keep posting and you'll get loads of support here. I am also a compulsive scale hopper but only take the reading from my official weigh day in to account.

I guess as long as I try to not let it stop me persevering with the diet/xenical then it can't harm too much.

Out of interest - I seem to be getting like a dull headache in the afternoons for the past 3 or 4 days - could this be linked to xenical?

I go on holiday to Madeira for a fortnight in a few weeks (3 weeks and 4 days to be precise ;) ) I am hoping I can try and keep up a reasonable diet whilst there - and I guess I'll be doing more exercise than I do right now, sat on my bum in a office.

Hiya Kelly :wavey:, if I remember correctly there's been a few peeps that have had headaches, but after a couple of weeks it clears up.
As for the scales, its hard I know, but really try and nip the scale hopping in the bud. You're spot on when you say our weight fluctuates, just remember that if you're staying 100% true on the Xenical, following low fat diet, any weight gains will be due to fluid retention, so don't sabotage your hard won efforts xx

Thank you!! :) I also think I might be a bit "blocked", I haven't been for a few days.

I've had the opposite to tango'd. Maybe I'm D'ognat. ;)

Perhaps also I should tell you all a bit about myself as I will probably be hanging around here for a long time. Haha.

I am 24 years old, I graudated from University last year. I work as a graphic designer in Manchester. I am a newbie to xenical, but not a newbie to dieting. I have been on weight loss plans since I can remember, but looking back to my childhood I didn't even need to loose weight then. :(
When I was around 16 years old I lost about 3 stone and felt great. But in the past 8 years I've put that back on (and much more). At the doctors last Thursday I weighed in at 19stone 7lb.
I have been really trying to loose weight for the past 3 years, at one point I was attending fortnightly weight clinics (1 to 1) with a food nutrition nurse, eating healthy and exercising for 1hour a day, 5 days a week at the gym (combination of swimming and machine work). Sadly I didn't loose anything no matter how hard I tried. I begged my doctors for more help (medication) but they refused until I lost a significant amount of weight. I eventually gave in.

Since then I've re-located after finishing University, and now have a fantastic GP who specialises in women's health. See has diagnosed me with polycystic ovaries - which explains my struggles in the past. I have been so angry this hasn't been picked up on before now. My new doctor gladly prescribed me xenical - what a relief.

So here I am now - 6 days in. :) xxx

hey pink kelly! good luck on your xenical journey lol! stick with it and its great, im back on it and really excited to be getting back on track! i find it helps posing what youve eaten and the fat grams, gets you noticing what youre eatin and gts you used to how much fat is in the different ingredients :) i have a diary called claires food diary in the diaries section if you fancy keeping tabs on each other? always good to have regular chat with someone!

Hi Kelly (just thought, can't call you PK, we already have one of those) re your headache, this is a common problem when starting Xenical, or any diet for that matter, may be related to withdrawal from something or other. Make sure you are drinking at least 2 litres a day as it can be due to dehydration.

I have been drinking 4 pints of water (and sugar free robinsons) at work, that's roughly 2 litres isn't it?

I weighed myself today and I seem to have lost that pound plus another, so that's 5lbs now since last Friday. :)

Hi Cheryl!!! Yes let's do this together. I am thinking about starting a diary - do you have one? And how have you been getting on in your first few days?
