Susie's 2022 campaign

How scary for you Suzie, Sending over thoughts and strength. Please don't think your selfish, we all have to still get by no matter what has happened in the world. You being cold isn't gong to change what's happened. I get out and about and help in charity events and there's ways of helping out and giving back. Utterly Heart breaking for the families who have lost loved ones and businesses :(. heat wise I've always kept a gas cylinder camping stove in my shed, the single ones are not to dear and great for filling the hot water bottles and a hot cuppa Tea. x

Hi ladies

Feeling better and a bit more upbeat now the power has stayed on for a day. Amazing how we take the basics for granted.

Am still snowed in. Tibbs - I liked your comment about villagers coming to help dig me out - but sadly it's not like that here. They look after their own families but that's it - so will just have to wait until it thaws some more before i can get out. Got enough food to last for a while - got a slow cooker chilli mince for dinner yum!

Also some good news about the avalanche - all four kiddies have been found alive, and some adults. Not the couple from our village, sadly :(.

Great news for the family of the little ones, and your couple may be found yet, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you and them.

That's so sad about your Nieghbours it's very much like that where I live in the UK, Id not be able to go to someone's house and check they are ok,it's just in my nature, My son is the same and my grandchildren will be. I like to think if we keep it up and instill in children it's ok to care, then the pot may get a bit diluted before empathy dissapears into the history books.

Your Chilli sounds scrummy , I'll trade you a shovel for some :D

LOL Looking you're on! Actually it was easy peasy - a packet of mince, chucked straight in, no frying, with a can of chopped toms, some potatoes cut into large cubes, a can of kidney beans, some W'shire sauce and chilli - and left to cook for 4 hours.

Decided i really, really need to get the drive cleared (cabin fever bigtime now) but it's too much on my own, so have contacted a young English guy who is doing some work for me, to see if he is free in the next day or so to help.

Next time your due snow buy loads of plastic storage boxes. Put them on your drive way like crazy paving. Then you can carry it away a box at a time :D:D.

I desperately try to stay out of the kitchen.
1 as it's like a fridge.
2 Id rather tinker with my car then slimey squishy things , but I didn't do to bad tonight with a 5 minute prep concoction o_O .

Hi Susie! Sounds like you have been having a rotten time recently! Hopefully the snow won't last too much longer, or at least it will get to the point where you can have some freedom. When I heard about the avalanche and where it was I thought of you. I'm glad you are ok. Awful for all affected though, and those poor people from your village.

Hope today has been better for you xx

Jeez Susie, right now I am not envying your retirement to Italy :( How awful for those poor people caught in the avalanche. Please look after yourself as best as you can. Hope the power is back on a more permanent basis and you can get out and about a little now :) Take care xxx

Morning all

All good here, the power and water seem to be OK now and the driveway got cleared yesterday by Wayne and his partner and I was able to venture out in my little Beetle for the first time in nearly three weeks :D. Freedom is definitely under-rated! But I have discovered something worse, much worse, than Italian drivers - and that's Italian drivers hurtling along at speed. In the fog. Without lights on!!!:eek::eek:. I got tailgated by some idiot, who then overtook me on a corner, but there was a small bonus in that he had one light working. On the way home I nearly got wiped out by a zooming lorry which decided it wanted all of the road OMG. I had to swerve into a snowbank to avoid being hit - that got the heart beating, I can tell you. One for the blog!

Today it's pouring with rain and is forecast to do so for the next couple of days, which is great because a) it will help clear the snow and b) I don't have to go out in it :D. Am holed up in the kitchen while the lads take up the grotty, badly laid, mostly broken mustard coloured tiles in the living room today/tomorrow, so spent the evening moving all the cr*pola I'd left on the floor and finding new places for it all to moulder for a while. I've got all fingers crossed that the serviceable grey and white marble tiles in the kitchen continue on into the living room, as the mustard tiles have been laid on top of an existing floor. Or as I was joking with a friend yesterday, maybe it's the Last Supper in mosaics under there haha.

Next job for the lads will be to take out the old chimney breast and fireplace in the kitchen, which doesn't work and I can use the extra space for a 3 door freezer and more bench space. After living in tiny rented flats in London for years, with bench space no bigger than a face flannel, I am loving the thought of so much room in the kitchen (to put more sh*t of course).

But a sad day nonetheless, as the funerals for the avalanche victims start today :(.

Thanks to you all for your kind messages. I'm behind on catching up with your news, so will do that now.

Really sorry to hear everything that's been happening. It's so awful & sad about the avalanche, can't imagine what it's like to have something like that happen so close to home. So glad the snow seems to be clearing though, & good that you finally managed to get out. Gosh, the driving does sound scary though!!! Glad you're ok Susie, & make sure take care xx

Ooooo my heart was beating I thought you were going to say LOG burner!

Much sadness for all families involved and no one should need to out live their children no matter their age :(

You definitely need to invest in a dash cam, your life on the road sounds more exciting than all my 30 years of driving :D

Goodness me Susie. I hope you're blogging about all of this, it's crazy!

I'm so glad you were super organised for the snow and it's definitely a trial by fire! You'll be an expert by the time next winter rolls around. So so sad about the avalanche victims, thoughts go to you and all the people in the town.

I'm super impressed at how you haven't flown off the handles with everything so far this year! I'm not sure I would have handled it as well!

Afternoon all!

Work is zooming along in the house, plastering where the fireplace was is nearly finished, and they are halfway through chasing out holes in the walls for the rewiring. Dust everywhere!

A dash cam LOL - good idea Looking - and yes Stackie there's definitely a blog about the events of the last weeks being planned.

Morning all

A lovely sunny day here at last, cold but warm in the sun. Preparing for Day 4 of DUST from the work going on in the house - it gets everywhere! But it's short term pain for long term gain :).

Must relate a story - a friend took me to Lidl yesterday (about 40 mins away). She's an older lady, slim, VERY plain spoken. I bought two pizza bases thinking I could make up my own, slightly more cal controlled pizzas - and told her this on the way back. She exclaimed "Why did you do that? Just DON'T eat it!" in an exasperated tone. That's her mantra... she thinks I should be on 1000 cals a day and starve until I get to a size 10, and I don't even bother now to try to explain about CCing and how you can have things you like (in the scheme of things), starting on higher cals and reducing the number as you lose weight. Lucky I didn't tell her about the chocolate I'd bought!:D

:D:D:D made me giggle, each to there own but 1000 calories a day?
I think to lower calories you just gain it when you go back to eating normally.
It's better to calorie count and retrain the brain to choose healthy options.
If not the habits stay.

What's going on the pizza?? nomnom xx

Morning cherubs!

Day 5 of dust continues, as the lads finish the prep work for the rewiring upstairs. Then it's living in slight chaos for a few days, then they are back Thursday with an electrical specialist to watch over their shoulder while they connect it all up, and then sign it off. I did the same with the boiler and gas fittings - if I ever decide to sell, then I've got official paperwork to prove it has been done safely. Not that I think I will - am getting that nice sense of being dug in here now - plus I never want to go through another renovation project again!

More earthquakes up north though, which is worrying for people there - plus there's a huge dam which the authorities are concerned about. They've dropped the water levels but if the dam cracks it will flood hundreds of homes.

Flipping heck I hope your not close to the Damn.
Totally relate to the rewiring and mess. I had floor boards up for weeks while I ran the wires, then get the guys in to do the end fixing and connection.
I did it all for selling, always feel realy good and accomplished when I'm handed a certificate.
Just had the gas done, some planning approved , got to get my head round I'm selling then it's going on the market :/

It's been an on going project which I had Lyme disease while it was all going on so could only work when able.

I'd planned to buy a renovation but now thinking just enjoy life a bit and travel to a few countries.

Hope you have a lovely day even with the sand dunes in your house :)

Had to laugh at that Suzie, so easy to say just don't eat it when you're like a rake. I've just had a terrible week on 500 cal fast followed by 1,000 cal days only to end up spiralling out of control and constantly obsessing about food then gained 2lb!! Back on the sensible route now though.
Bet you can't wait for work to be finished, not just to get rid of the dust but to see the home you're creating. You must be loving having a place of your own after renting in the UK. X

Oh, just read your post about the dam, fingers crossed it holds! X

Thanks ladies - I'm not near the dam, so we'll be ok :).

Sand dunes is right - I've got this afternoon to dry a load of washing before the house goes back to being like the Sahara :D.

Tibbs - sorry you had a bad week love, but at least you know that low cal level isn't for you xx
