The Minimins Running Team - Runaholics Anonymous

Hi all!!

Ran a teeny 2 1/2 miles after work..still a little bogged down with a head cold and I also only eaten salad all day so my energy wasn't the best at all! Run scheduled before weigh in Friday, aiming for a full 3 miles around both lakes, will have to get up super early and try wake up so that I can run it without feeling too dead!!

Clareel - totally!! We really didn't wanna go today but thought we best to keep the routine up because even a teeny mile keeps the ball rolling...it's not always about running the furthest, it's just attempting something ^.^
Did you make it out??

Oh, also just wanna update everyone, I've raised £93 so far for the 15mi run in June!! Am chuffed - still got hubby yet to sponsor me and also a car boot sale to do!! Think I can raise a minimum of £50 from that with any luck and taking my change box along with me for anyone who can donate their pennies. I need £140 minimum so I'm close!

Also everyone who donates multiples of £10 get to pick two songs. My parents sponsored me £30 so they got 6 songs to pick, my dad is cruel and has Puppy Love on there, and my mum the YMCA so far. Can you tell they love me haha.

Well done on going for a run anyway even though you weren't feeling 100% I definitely agree it's better to go a for a run rather than no run, even if it's short/slow etc. Saying that I never went in the end lol, will go tonight though. Aiming for 5k and definitely want to try the 10k at the weekend for the first time!

Oooh clareel first 10k!!! My advice: don't follow your instincts to stop!!! Lol. It's a trick!!! :D so worth sticking it out it's 100% better feeling after you have than the guilty one when you stop. I am however completely confident you will smash it =D

Haha a trick love it! I'm really looking forward too it, did a 5K last night, 2 days rest now then I'm on it on Sunday for that 10K! Hope the weather is nice, going to go early enough so I'm not pushed for time and hopefully there won't be too many people around either!

So 12.5/50k done now :)

Hopefully this won't be short lived with how my knees have be feeling lately but I'm pleased to announce I've just run my first 5k all by myself! I've been running with a buddy since aug and the idea of running alone bored me but I did my playlist, dropped little man off at pre school and just went! I'm also chuffed as I needed to know where to go by me to get training for a race for life and yes I backtracked a bit but I've plotted it and done my first 5k non stop in 32 mins, with a few hills too so I'm pretty smug!

7/32 miles done :)

Working from home today so will be able head out after 6pm when it's still light - running to the station to meet my other half so it'll be 5K. I'm running my usual route in reverse so it'll be interesting to see what my time is.

Well done Lauren :)

Feeling both nervous and excited for my first ever 10k tomorrow! Need to remember to pace myself and not worry about being too slow as just going for distance on this one! going to get up early, drink some water and have a coffee & a banana, then head out an hour later. Really can't wait to say that I ran 10K haha!

Clareel, best of luck today!!! Don't focus on '10k' as that can lead to dread, just focus on the moment and put your energy and focus into moving your feet and not the eventual 'omg I'm dying'. I also try and think of things to distract me that require thought and planning, like what I'm doing during the week lol.

Perhaps I'm a weirdo tho!!! Lol :D makes half a mile go like 'that' *clicks fingers* though!!

I DID IT!!! yay! Feeling very pleased with myself the minute lol

Didn't see your post until just now Lauren but that's what I did! Just kept trying to focus on controlling my breathing and putting one foot in front of the other and it seemed to work, I think of all sorts of random stuff when I'm running as well, definitely seems to help!

Anyway, I managed the 10K in 1h 8m 39s so pretty happy with that! 9 weeks to go until my 'proper' 10k event and I'm feeling confident for that now and going to aim to get as close to the hour mark as possible!

So glad I found this thread, thank you for all the support :)

Congratulations! That's awesome. I opted for bike rides this weekend not sure how far I went, need to work it out but it felt good, lots of hills which have to be good for weight loss surely

Thanks KentCat - cycling is awesome too! Defo strengthens your legs which can only help with the running! Well done :)

Well done on the fantastic 10k run!!

I often have 'just keep going, just keep going' running through my mind as I run.

I went out this afternoon for a run, first time since Monday as I've had a really busy week... I thought my pace would be about the same as it was last week (7.11 min per km) however I managed to hit 6.49 min per km and did 4.1km in total! Very pleased with myself. I've had a massive boost yesterday by popping into the local running shop and they did gait analysis for me... I'm neutral and not doing anything that is going to do me damage if I carry on. I should be able to get a few runs in this week as I'm off to Weymouth with my mum and children. Hoping to get at least 3 good runs in before Friday.

Brilliant RM07 well done on improving your speed that's fantastic! I really should go and get a gait analysis and some proper running gear instead of just buying what's on sale in sports direct lol. Someone once said to me 'running is a state of mind' and at the time I though she was a bit mental but actually can totally see what she means now :)

Definitely strengthens the legs. I've mapped it all out and over the two days I've done 28K if only it was as easy to rock up the distance with running!
