my CD somes in tins and its 2 scoops per serving , so I am going to have 1 scoop per serving more often say 6- 8 times aday

Hi BelleFrogette --

I figured you won't mind my joining your team link. I have read through all the postings and you are a very welcoming and supportive person.

I liked the YouTube postings -- you have found some interesting things. I was sad to check up on one lad who was starting CD (he had the four pictures in his Day 29 video). That video was from 2 years ago -- and he stopped the CD shortly after he made that video. He then made another one about seven months as he was starting Slimming World - but there has not been a new video since.

it is a small world: I am American (living in the UK) and consider myself a "Seattlelite" -- I grew up in Seattle about seven blocks from the Woodland Park Zoo.

When, I first read some of your postings a day or so ago I thought that you might be an American (you mentioned the product you are using).

Three days ago, I started ssing using CD ordered from the US -- but the Food For Life (not 330 -- and cans you posted pictures of has a new formula because Tonalin is a fairly recent addition). I bought FFL because it is soy based. I did not think the Cambrige Diet here in the UK was soya based. I had looked for a soya based product a while back.

Also, US CD and UK CD are not same company or product (the US products do not meet EU standards and vice versa) -- and the US CD has been around a lot longer (I think it was named for Cambridge, Massachusetts).

Anyway, I think the idea of splitting your meals -- whether it is tetras, powder, bars, etc. makes good sense. A nutritionist once told me that women should have five or six small meals scattered through out the day. I think it has to do with metabolism.

I am going to try this (dividing thing) starting tomorrow.

Thanks,

MinnieMel

Hi Mel,
mm-welcome.jpg

I'm really fond of seattle but it has way too much yummy ice cream but I have found my fav place even does one with splenda..not that I can have much of it .

Honestly I really prefer the USA formula and so far I have got them through customs. CD Uk does do vanilla soya but again I find it too bland.

Funny enough even the milk based USA formula seems to sit better in my stomach than the UK brand which for reasons I cannot figure out makes me queasy. i do not know what the difference in standards can be, but I do know the strictness of EU food controls.

with the tins I use 2/3 of a scoop for my drink even though the portion is one scoop, and I have more drinks .

I find the USA CD soups are vile  , yuck...I still have tins of the awful stuff.

Truth be told Cinderellas sometimes I make it harder for myself by nibbling..its crazy, but maybe its not.

I am smart enough to know SS 100% and boom boom boom, its over and its over fast..so why do I do it..?

And no I do not think its self sabotage in my case, but its as if there is part of me that isnot on board, has not been won over, is not convinced or has not been heard. She does not like been called a cheater and she feels misunderstood.

totally off topic but love Nina Simone singing 'don't let me be misunderstood'

Hi Bel,

You are right about the US CD soups. I got a "starter" kit and it had three cans of soups and three of drinks -- and I gave the last can of soup to a friend who had done LL and loved diet soups. I do not think she has tried this yet... and having done LL, I think those soups were better.

Where did you go in Seattle for good ice cream? I used to love Farrells.

I am often found lurking with intent here

old-school.jpg

old school frozen custard in capital hill, best egg nog ice cream and a very very acceptable vanilla ice cream made with splenda, pecan butter is also great.

and the other is Molly moons..yummy

molly moons 'lavender and honey' is so good it ought to be rationed, their maple and walnut ;) heaven and their bumble berry when it is in season is utterly moor-ish.

the other one I like which I can get from QFC is a green tea organic ic ecream, though I do not recall the spelling of the maker

First Monday in January, bumper day for gym memberships and wot nots..ok my resolution is to make better use of the membership I have.

Bella

Hi NCs,

I am holding off on the gym membership until all the New Years Resolutioners die off -- takes a couple of weeks. ;) And, then I may join the local leisure centres -- one of them now has the Power Plate thing. It sounds interesting.

The Lavender Centre near Hunstanton has wonderful lavender Ice Cream, as well. I saw gingerbread flavoured egg nog at the shop on the AF base this year and thought YUCK! I wonder if you'd have liked it, Bel?

On the matter of ice cream, I had some tubs stored in my host’s freezer with stern injunctions to him not to eat them even when I go back to London and he jokingly called them my totems.

Anyhow it’s been nagging at me..last night I was having my ‘treat’ instead of a shake- a scoop of the vanilla ice cream made with splenda and I thought ..What am i locked into here, this is just frozen milk with splenda and a few other things, how did it get to be so emotionally encoded and so totemic.? This was about midnight while I was watching my recorded ‘biggest losers where are they now’.

A number of things came together and ended with me going to the freezer and tipping the stack/tubs of egg nog, lavender, maple and walnut into a big sink of hot water which I washed away this morning,

Its just frozen milk..its not magic. I would say I crossed a line within myself because ice cream is so loaded as comfort and emotion and in truth its none of those things it’s just frozen sweetened milk and I can make ice cream out of CD

By the way Mel, let me know how you find the UK formula, one thing I do miss out on is having someone to see every week for a weigh in and a touch base. WW works while I am in Seattle but that is just so that I do not go over board since I am not following the WW program.

But I'll have to come up with a smarter option when I get back to london, I can so easily drift ( or so I think).

Bella

Hey Bel,

I told someone the same thing on this forum about the "holiday chocs" (those gift boxes you get so many of at this time of year). She asked what people were going to do with their goodies to avoid temptation while they are on their programmes -- and I told her, "Get rid of them. Give them away. Toss them. Whatever. That when and if I ever want or 'need' one chocolate... and I mean one... then I am sure I will be able to find one!"

We use food, especially certain foods, as a comfort - replacement -- reward-- etc. Rather, we abuse food this way. Food is fuel... period. Don't consume more than you need.

Well done, Bel. Break the shakles.

You know Mel, I just feel a strong need to be still..I have been up and down like an I do not know what.....I went shopping yesterday, Seattle has a really brilliant consignment store so I stocked up,gym clothes and some good quality casual wear.

I feel there is a place to be a beautifully groomed and clothed on the way to goal and in London anything of quality above a size-14 costs too much. Normally I do not liked used clothes.

but the best purchase was a pair of kinky boots and a pair of kitten shoes. I am such a shoe babe.

I also watched a plus-Size Miss USA last night. The women were beautiful in many respects, but ......

Hey Bel,

I think there are women who are built bigger and are not meant to petite, skinny, minnies -- but more of a big and healthy. Sort of like the actress on Drop Dead Diva. She looks physically pretty healthy and, yes, she is overweight -- but I suspect that she has better health and physical abilities than her slimmer co-actors.
So, not having seen the show -- maybe it is supposed to support the concept that different is not necessarily wrong.

MM

yes, the women were lovely in all the ways that matter Mel,

Ok, i would say that mood wise I am definitely off today..its not a food desire thing or a time of month, I am just 'off' and I am curious what they might be.
maybe I just need to try on my cruella de vill wig till I feel better or maybe its just mood cow time.

by the way have you been to your CDC and how did that go?

cos I really like this post

The second kind are those that see the diet as a choice, at anytime they can go and eat what they want, they can go and drink what they want but they choose not to because they want to lose weight and be slim more than they want to eat or drink.

The people who see the diet as a prison sentence tend to hate the diet all the way through, they generally feel unhappy while losing weight and from my experience tend to "escape" from the prison at some point and eat and drink and then the diet becomes even tougher.

For those that make a choice to just not eat or drink I find they tend to enjoy the diet!! They have made a good choice as they can feel the results and with the right mindset it is just a matter of keeping yourself focussed for a few months while you get to where you really want to get to.

All of us who start a VLCD desperately want to lose weight for many reasons and we all know the diet is in our own heads. If you drink the packs and drink the water and avoid food then you will lose weight as it is impossible not to, the only problem is whether your mind makes you falter along the way.

So please please see the diet as a choice, and a very good choice as it will change your life for the better.

GO FOR IT!!
