Hello *waves again*

I'm a mom of two who is seriously sick of still carrying around the extra baby weight. I've never been impressed with my weight/size/body but now having two small children to run round after I'm starting to notice how extremely unhealthy I am. So I decided this would be the year I did something about it.

I joined Slimming World on Monday, stayed for the chat and received my books. However, I decided not to start until today as today is food shopping day...

Anyway, even after the new members chat I still have no idea what I'm doing haha

This morning I had 2 Hi-fi light bars for breakfast, should I have had an actual breakfast and then those as a healthy extra?

For lunch I had jacket potato with beans and mushrooms (and a tiny sprinkling of cheese). For dinner I plan to have quorn sausages and mash with veg and a muller light for pudding.

Am I going along the right lines? Is there anything I'm missing? Or am I doing it completely wrong lol
I have a 7 month old daughter so I'm blaming my confusion on baby brain :)

Anyway, I look forward to getting to know you all and thank you in advance for reading my long and probably boring/confusing first post :)

Lily x

Thank you so much, I hadn't found that thread yet! Am still trying to get my head around how the forum works haha

So as long as I have my 3 meals correctly, heA and heB each day and so many syns, I'm on the right track?x

Definately don't forget your sins!
I've just started sw too and find a food diary is really helpful. I keep a personal one on my phone that I update throughout the day then copy over to my food diary on here. It's a great motivational tool...especially when others come on and say your food looks great!!

Good luck!

You've got it pretty sorted there Lily! You can by all means have your Hifi bars for breakfast, but try to have some fruit at the same time (a banana, an apple, or some satsumas)
LittleOne83 is right, don't forget to use your syns! :) So many people have started SW and avoided using any at all. As much as they may have a couple of good losses, those losses tail off and they start to maintain their weight rather than losing. If all else fails, get some small bars of chocolate (Freddo's are 5 syns each) or some syn friendly crisps (Quavers, Skips, French Fries are all 5 syns or less) to nibble on :)
Don't forget to weigh your heA and heB, and you're on your way :)

Oh I had two satsumas with the hi-fi bars, I forgot about those!
I'm not much of a fan of chocolate /crisps etc, so could I use my syns in pudding, say have a muller rice instead of a muller light? (not a big fan of yoghurt either haha) would that still work?

I'm not sure how I feel about going to group, I wasn't very impressed with it today, leader was a bit rude and abrupt and the other members weren't very welcoming. Unfortunately it's the only group on at a time I can attend, will stick it out for a few weeks but if it doesn't change I may just do it alone. I've been so excited about joining but I left this morning feeling deflated and confused (the latter doesn't take much).

That's fine :) it's just making sure that you use at least some of them, and don't avoid them completely

As for group, yes, do stick with it for a few weeks, you'll find that you'll get ideas for meals etc. from the other members and you'll start to feel at home soon :) (hopefully!)
Sometimes it can just be a busy week and the leader can get a bit hectic... :)

Thank you, that's fab to know!

I'm slowly getting my head around it all now, thanks to you guys, you've been much more help than my group leader was today :)

With the Healthy Extras, can I split them eg: half the milk and half the cheese, instead of the full milk allowance?

I wasn't impressed much with my group either at first. Most people seemed to go with a friend and I sat there like Billy no mates!. But if you stick with it then, eventually your face seems to fit and you get much more intereaction. I find leaders very variable (I've been through quite a few!). This time of year they have lots of newbies and paperwork. I was quite impressed this current one remembered my name the second week. The last group I went to for 6 months and the leader never learnt my name!
Think to yourself, if you were learning a new language, you wouldn't be fluent in a couple of weeks. We all still make mistakes, but if you stick with it, you will lose weight.

Yes you can split your healthy extras, just be sure to measure them.

I always split my healthy extras as I can never decide between milk or cheese! Stick with the group - I didn't feel at home for a good few weeks at mine :) Remember to keep your books handy for looking up syn values and munch on those free foods!! :) Xx

welcome :)

I'd stick with the group for a while until you're a bit more familiar with the plan before you think about going it alone. You'll pick up tips, recipes and tricks from the discussions.

I find keeping a food diary really helps me keep on track, even on my "off plan" (whoops!) days, I feel more in control if I keep one and I usually get a better loss than on the weeks when I haven't bothered.

Definitely use your syns, personally I find if I don't use them my weight loss slows down because I'm not eating enough. I socialise a lot as well so I need them for alcohol lol :D Yes, you can use them for puddings :)

Thank you for all your help guys :)
I had 12 syns yesterday, I ended up making wraps for dinner so I synned those and Mayo, with cheese as my healthy extra. I ate more yesterday than I usually do in a week haha I'm still full this morning but have managed to eat some breakfast.
Not entirely sure what I'm going to have for lunch, I did write a meal plan but I don't fancy what's on today's menu. I'm definitely understanding it more now though!

Thanks again for all of your help xx

Lilymac - probably worth noting the Bfree wraps are a HEXB, as are WW 50/50 pittas so these might be worth looking at for lunches to free up syns if you have a HEXB to use?

Good luck on your weight loss journey xxx
