BBC NEWS | UK | Magazine | Why are fat people abused?
Tell us something we don't know.
That's a really shocking story. That poor woman. :sigh:
I've never been physically attacked for being fat, but verbal abuse was a daily occurrence when I was at my biggest. Some of the things said to me in the street by perfect strangers, mostly men, have been totally disgusting and shameful. I could not imagine ever speaking to anyone like that, let alone a complete stranger who has done me no harm whatsoever.
The fact is that MOST people do not react in that way to obese people. Most people keep their thoughts to themselves, rightly. The ones who shout abuse are morons who probably do the same thing to lots of people, regardless of their weight.
Sadly I think is a sign of the times we live in. What once was a minority of disrespectful people now seems to be growing into a majority!
There just doesn't seem to be any discipline or deterents with regards their actions.
