Advice on becoming a CDC!

Hello!

I was just wondering....do you have to have reached a BMI of 28 before you can be put forward to become a CDC, or can you be sponsered before this?

Also, am I right in thinking that the process of training is done over 3 months?

Any idea also as to the rough cost involved in setting up as a CDC?

Any advice would be much appreciated!!

Thanks xx

Er and count me in!!! - here's what I can tell you from the horses mouth so to speak- hope it helps?:

Dear Claire,
Thank you for your enquiry to become a Cambridge Counsellor.
Please find below an explanation of how the application process works:
If you have a counsellor who is helping you through your weight loss at the moment, you would in the first instance liaise with them about applying to become a Cambridge Counsellor.
They will be happy to help you and no counsellor has their own geographical area, so there is no competition between counselors.
Your counsellor would then become your future Sponsor, this means they will help you through the application process and answer any questions or queries you may have along the way acting as your mentor, ensuring you understand the role and abide by our Code of Conduct once accredited.
Once you have expressed your interest in becoming a Cambridge Counsellor. Your Counsellor will then be able to carry out the initial screening process, ensuring you are suitable for the role and fit the criteria below:
a. Be at least 18 years old
b. Be a resident in the UK, Channel Islands or have a BFPO address
c. Have a Body Mass Index of 28 or below at the time of application and accreditation
d. Have used the Cambridge Diet for a suitable period of time and have experience of more than one Cambridge weight management programme/ Step
e. You recognise and understand the responsibilities and commitments in becoming a Counsellor and have sat in on at least two Counselling session observing the role and what it entails
Your Counsellor will be happy to discuss the above criteria in more detail once you are ready to apply.
If you have any further questions or queries regarding the application process or becoming a Cambridge Counsellor please do not hesitate to contact me.
Many thanks for your interest in Cambridge Health and weight plan and I look forward to receiving your application.
Kind Regards
Emma Lowe

I found this very old post going back to 2007 so not very sure how relevant it is today but I will try and find out!

Hi,

Cambridge Health and Weight plan is not just a diet product. It is also for nutrition, fitness and health.

The two week criteria is so that all products can be tried. Occasionally we do have counsellors that are nutritionists who may not have been on a weightloss programme yet have a full understanding of dieting issues and healthy eating.

We have diabetic nurse specialists, doctors and other 'counsellors' in the wider sense who become CDC's.

For weightloss if someone has lost weight they can apply to be a CDC at a BMI 28, however it is usually at least a month before they come to training and by that time should have experienced one or two of the eating plans and actually be a lower BMI on the training day.

The training day is quite comprehensive followed by two accreditation and training questionnaires which must be completed within 2 weeks, which you can fail by the way, its not a fait accompli that if you attend training you will be a CDC.

Once accredited you are mentored by your sponsor and have to undertake six training modules within your three months. This are mandatory otherwise the counsellor agreement will be reviewed and can be revoked. My new counsellors attend our counselling sessions and take part, with clients consent as part of their training.

There are ongoing advanced regional training days on many subjects in the pipeline.

A couple of years ago things were different insofar as there were only a few experienced counsellors or counsellors that wanted to sponsor new counsellors, yet there were many many customers needing our services, so it was allowed with Head Office agreement to be sponsored by counsellors outside of their area.

The growth of the company over the past 2 years has been phenominal and now there are far more counsellors in far more areas, so it is normal to be sponsored by your own Counsellor, again there are exceptions to this rule.

So using CD for 2 weeks is just one of the entry requirements.

The information copied from Emma's letter is the up to date information. Since my previous post some of the criteria have changed.

Thanks Mini and Linda!

Will approach my CDC when I am approaching my BMI of 28 in a few months then and take it from there!

Thanks again

Hi,
I'm just looking for advice about becoming a cdc. I've lost 5 1/2 stone on the cd and love the programme. I approached my cdc last week about sponsoring me, I've rung her tonight and she has said she is still thinking about it as we live so close to each other (2 miles) it wouldn't be worth her carrying on. She said as a person she would have no hesitation in recommending me, it is simply because we live so close by. She says that she'll let me know her decision in a couple of days.

does anyone have any experience or advice of this?
thanks

There are no geographical boundaries with regards to CDC's you can have a CDC living next to you. Each CDC has their own group of friends and family work colleagues etc so you will know people she will never ever meet.

As long as your BMI is 28 or below and you have done at least 2 of the programmes you can apply.

By sponsoring you she will be enhancing her business.

If your CDC does not want to sponsor you for the reasons outlined above you can contact Emma Lowe direct and Cambridge Head Office explaining the situation and ask for an application form.

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply, you've put that by sponsoring a cdc it will enhance her business, can you explain how indeed it does enhance her business?
Thanks

Aaah - that is good to know - btw Will B Slim: my CDC was sponsored by her CDC who only lives literally at the end of the road away from her - so it can be & it is legit done! Hope that helps ?xxx

PS well done on your weight loss honey!!!! so close too - let me know how you get on!!! (being a CDc is one of my ambitions too) x

Id Of loved to have been a CDC but my daytime job is too
Much and couldn't commit enough time to clients such a shame

Best of luck to those that are hoping to become a CDC :). X

hi,
thanks for the comments. We're going on holiday in October so that's now my focus for losing that last 7 lbs. I've managed to maintain the weight less for approx 4 months which is the best ever! (normally I'd have put on at least 3 stone back on my now)

I'd always fancied becoming a cdc and due to the recession my hours have been reduced at work, so its seems an ideal time to become one. It'll also help my focus on the last half a stone!! I'll keep u posted!
x

Linda,
Thanks for info. The wait is frustrating, I spoke to my cdc seven days ago who said she needed a couple of days to think about sponsoring me and she'd get back to me. Hadn't heard anything so I rang her again yesterday and she'd said she wanted to get in touch with her cdc for advice and that her cdc was away over the weekend. She promised me a call tonight and still nothing. Any advice?
