Advice: WeightWatchers vs LighterLife

Hi All, New to the forum, but not new to diets!

This is what’s going on in my head right now.

I am on WW, thinking with so much to lose the slower I do it the better it will be for my skin and maintaining. I believe it will also be cheaper food wise. Also it means I can still be sociable both at meal times with OH or when I am out.

Now the wife of a colleague is doing LL and has lost over 4 stone very quickly. In the back of my mind I am very jealous and wondering if I should be doing the same. I keep thinking it can't be healthy losing it that fast? How on earth can you keep to your goal weight when you start eating normally again? What would I do with all that extra skin from losing so fast?

So I guess my question is.....

Do I stay on WW?
Do I go onto LL?
Do I do LL and then maintain with WW?

I am so confused right now; I really don't know what to do for the best.

Thanks for reading.

The 2 diets are so different its hard to compare them. Yes the weight loss with LL is much faster but WW does allow you to enjoy a 'more normal' life while dieting. Id love to try a VLCD for the speed but know I couldnt do it.

It really depends whats important, if youre happy to have a slower but nice ans steady weight loss with a plan that will allow you to eat, drink & socialise then stick with WW.

If you think you could stick to LL for the time required then maybe its worth trying, but youre only seeing the plus side of it from your colleague, not the hard part which is something to consider too.

Both are great diets, both will get the weight off its just what you prefer.

Why not have a look round the WW and LL section on here and read some of the threads/diaries :)

Hiya Amanda :)

I am on WW, thinking with so much to lose the slower I do it the better it will be for my skin and maintaining.

Not necessarily. Depends on how you want to maintain ;)

I believe it will also be cheaper food wise.
Well, I did CD .. like LL in many ways, but cheaper. Not a lot of difference with cost compared to a healthy eating way of life.

Also it means I can still be sociable both at meal times with OH or when I am out.
A good reason to do WW

I keep thinking it can't be healthy losing it that fast?
I know it's sounds shocking, but speaking for the Cambridge diet, which is probably the most researched diet in the world, it's a very safe way to lose weight. You get everything you need except calories. It follows the NICE guidelines and is highly regulated.

How on earth can you keep to your goal weight when you start eating normally again?
Again, I can only speak for the Cambridge diet, which moves on through low GI healthy eating plans when you get to goal. Like WW, what you do after that is entirely up to you.

What would I do with all that extra skin from losing so fast?
Tuck it into your knickers :D I haven't seen any evidence with differences between slower weightloss and faster weightloss when it comes to loose skin. I've seen pictures of people who have lost a lot of weight both ways. Some have problems, some dont. More to do with genetics (plus other things)

Do I stay on WW?
If you are enjoying WW, you really need to stick with it. Don't let anything or anyone convince you otherwise (I was just answering some points, not trying to persuade you away from WW).

The only diets that work, are the ones you can do. Try not to compare...do it the way you feel comfortable with.

Best of luck whether you stick with WW or move to LL (though CD is rather fab :D)

Hello im was on ww for year and half and today i have joined sw because my weight loss is sooooo slow really bad.!

Maybe I should keep reading and stick with WW right now.

Even though I have lost the first stone, I feel like I haven't lost enough, if that makes sense and hearing about someone fabulous weight loss each day at work does put a bit of a downer on mine.

Ahh well, maybe I am just having a bad day and my first post was a bit negitive! :D

I do appreciate all the replies though... thank you.

Hi Amandav

I was the same weight as you. For my personal journey I chose LL, I felt that the slow steady plod of WW or SW was not me for me. I also liked the fact that LL looked at the reasons as to why you over ate and tried to get you as an individual to look at those reasons, and to give you the skills when you return to food to change your bad habits.

LL is a speedier diet and your weight loss is goes quite quickly, just look at my journey so far. However it does take belief in yourself and determination. LL is a great diet for me and I know that once I lose this excess 17 stone I will never be putting it back on.
