Hi,

I was just wondering if there were and fellow bipolar sufferers out there? This is hard for me to ask as there are not many people that know i am bipolar .

I was wondering how people cope doing sw and loosing weight in general when going through a rough patch?

Do you find it hard to loose weight in general or because of meds? I'm on 700mg of Quetiapine/Seroquel which has just been put up and 900mg of Lithium at night, i found it added to my weight problems.

Hope to hear from someone

Did you do a search before posting as I'm sure, not 100% though, this has been asked before;)

Hi Kaynnate, I'm bipolar too. I'm on olanzapine which has been a nightmare for gaining weight but it really helps my condition so I've persevered with it. I'm at target now so it is possible to get there despite being on weight gain meds. I don't take lithium as I just couldn't get on with it. I'm on lamotrigine as a mood stabiliser instead. I've found slimming world a fantastic way to lose the weight and have lost 4 stone exactly. It can be hard, especially when you're going through a bad patch. I lost the plot earlier this year when my antidepressant was changed and I had a bad reaction to the new one. I managed to get back on the wagon though and made it back to target a few weeks ago.

Yes happy holidays I have done a search but the thread was over a year old and I wanted to do an up to date thread and not just revive an old thread

It's really nice to know I'm not the only one :) maybe we could use this thread to check in with eachother?

Being on the meds I find is hard, when I first started being on mood stabilisers I put on 2 stone in a couple of months :( and then obviously the way I was eating made it worse. Sometimes I wish I weren't on them but I know I wouldn't be very well without them (even though I'm not at the moment :'( )

P.s. It's also nice to hear that weight can be lost! :)

Yes that's a great idea. I weighed in today at 2lbs below target so I'm pleased with that. I was 3.5lbs under target last week so needed to put on this week to get back in range. It's tricky to get the balancing act right as 3lbs either way is not a lot to play with. I actually drank a couple of glasses of milk before I stepped on the scale to make sure I was back in range lol!

Well done you! I can't wait til I'm at target but I have a looooong way to go, my dr put my quetiapine up and he said in about a month my moods should even out, he said I'm going through a mixed manic/depressive episode it's been going on for months now :( at the beginning of the year everything was going well including my weight loss and now it's all hone belly up, I just want to feel better :( x

Sorry to hear you're going through a difficult time hun. It's really hard to focus on slimming when you're feeling so low. Take it easy - you can't do everything all at once. Maybe focus just on maintaining till your moods even out a bit and your meds get sorted? It's a real pity the lithium isn't working. It didn't help me neither. There are other mood stabilisers around like lamotrigine and carbemazepine (sp?) though, so there are other things to try if the lithium doesn't work out. Good luck and keep us posted how you get on, x

Thanx im seein the specialist next wk just find it so hard to do everyday things like loose weight when im either bouncing of the Walls or crying and asleep all the time grrrrr just want it sorted now xx
