Belly and Back support

Morning all Got a question, need some advice. Has anyone ever tried (or currently using) one of these belt supports for their belly and back? My back is in a lot of pain after happening to stand up for just 20 minutes chatting yesterday. It's obviously stiffened up a bit over night but it was painful within about 10 minutes of standing yesterday (my own fault, I was even leaning on an empty chair!).

I do suffer from lower backache at times anyway so it's not surprised me that this has kicked in.

Anyway, we're off to Liverpool this afternoon and I was going to pop into mothercare as they sell a couple on their website but wondered if anyone had tried any or if they could recommend any (from the highstreet would be great but even online so I can look and get an idea).

A friend of mine lent me one of these - Nexcare Maternity Support : mothercare- Nursery Equipment, Maternity Clothes & Baby Shop

It's comfortable to wear, pretty easy to use (once you get the hang of putting it on) and I've used it a for a couple of 2hr+ shopping trips (amongst other things), and my back hasn't been too bad afterwards, so I think it does help. After 3 hours of shopping on saturday I did start to feel niggles, but I would have pre-pregnancy anyway!

I put it on now when I think I'm going to be on my feet for longer than 15-20 mins eg. food shopping, out for a walk etc. I think if you're going to get the use out of it (eg. everyday) then £35 is worth the money, plus I'm sure you can sell it on (or check eBay for a second hand one). I use it about once a week so just glad a friend of mine lent me it.

I've got a support belt from my physio which is quite similar, except its designed to keep my pelvis as steady as possible cause of my SPD. It helps with back ache too and I think I'd have gone loopy by now without it. I'm now on crutches for the SPD but I think it'd progressed much quicker if I hadn't gone to get the belt. I'd recommend support belts (whether bought or given by a physiotherapist) to anyone, worth every penny. Its really quite amazing just how supportive a bit of stretchy fabric and some velcro can be

Sarah , have you seen those new back supports by JML? I know you spend a lot of time in front of the computer for work so maybe one of these would benefit you, I think they are only 5.99 and they put your back into the correct position. I know not a back support as such but may help?

Thanks Jo, we need to go to Wilkinsons at some point so will have a look out for them. Definitely look handy. Not for now though as I no longer have an office chair or desk! It's all been packed up to allow the office to switch rooms for the next year, so I'm on the couch (which I've learnt is not the best place to get the baby into the right position, especially as I have it slightly reclined!), so I'm going to get a birthing ball to try using, and work at the dining table for as much of the day as possible.

But that support could be handy for when I'm back in an office chair. DH may be interested too!
