I'm due to have an operation on my ankle in 9 days. My blood pressure was 124/90 the last time they did it 2 weeks ago. The doctor says the bottom number is a little high but still within the normal range so wouldn't want to give me any medication for it. The hospital on the other hand were really rude and went on about how because I am "morbidly obese" and have a very high bmi I will have to be an in patient rather than a day case because I will "break the beds" in the day case unit! This I understood even if the woman made me feel like sh*t when she said it but she also said that if my blood pressure (bottom number) is 90 or over on the day they won't operate as it is considered against hospital policy! I have been waiting for this op since October last year and can't afford to have it cancelled now. She told me to get blood pressure medication from my GP and I explained that my GP refused to prescribe them as he thought it was unnecessary. So they've just said I've got to wait and see on the day what the reading is! Stress! I'm going to stick to the diet as usual to see if losing a couple more pounds in that time will make a difference but does anyone know any other tips for lowering blood pressure in a short space of time?
