Can I dip my toe in, please?

Juno,

Dont be fed up or disheartened, after last weeks huge loss it is prob your body catching up and needing some time too carry on. I don't think you've done anything wrong and if you had some wine- so what- think of all the things you didn't have like cakes, sweeties, bread etc.
Its a maraton, not a sprint.
Spirits up now girl - in the words of Scarlet O'Hara - Tomorrows Another Day and we will have lots of days to support one another on this journey.

Well done!:0clapper:

I'm going to send your wise words right back at you!

I think the wine is the problem. I wonder if we water it down with soda so each glass lasts longer (and we are adding to our water intake)?
We have to find a way to manage this because we can't spend the weeks being saints, and then have the devil wine bugger it all up at the weekend! :devilangel:

I had another virtuous weekend, but the wine did get an outing (although not to the same extent as last week :D) so I'm hoping for some loss. If I lose nothing then we have to assume it's the wine, and take steps! (not sure what steps yet).

What do you think?

Did you get some nice pieces of furniture or was it an act of kindness??

Juno .. x

Ladies, wine has carbs in it, you need to get a liking for non carb drinks like, vodka/gin and slimline tonic!

Thanks PP.. any idea whether it's a few, a lot or somewhere in between?

I keep finding differing opinions.. some books say "hardly anything, don't worry" and others say "way too much, don't even think about wine".

How are you finding GoLower.. it's obviously working!

Juno ..

I am finding 'go-lower' very easy but then I have a hubster that helps. He keeps me on the straight and narrow.

He wants to lose 7 stone and I want to lose 5 stone, we are getting there, bit off track every now and again, but you can't hide yourself in a cupboard for 5 months can you.

We visited Prage for a weekend and went of the rails, we put on 4.5lb in one weekend but lost it again over the next week. Which was good.

We tend to eat Celeriac or Cauliflower only although I am trying to get him to eat the fried cabbage next week - he needs to build up to it....childhood dislike.
I explained that cabbage used to be boiled to death, but that I am hoping to fry it with bacon bits, ever hopeful he will like it, ever hopeful I will like it.

It's actually great to find something that actually works for us, after trying so many different diets that don't. I just hope we can stick to it and when we get down to our ideal weight we can keep it off.

Thank PP, Note to self- NO MORE WINE!

Well done on your sucess too- you are going great guns and long may it continue. Your cabbage and bacon sounds really nice- might try that myself.

Juno, I think I've got the "three and a half weeks into a diet" blues today, feeling really mis and can't kick myself out of it. Donn't wanna drink my water and craving all sorts of things that I can't have! Don't want to eat any of the things I can have- Weird eh? I'm not hungry, but just restless in myself- Keep looking in fridge and hoping sommit nice will pop to mind to eat.... It doesnt.

I have been trying to occupy myself moving furniture about the house and going through all my new stuff. Yes, I did very well from my trawl and have a new leather suite, recliner chair, dressing table and much more. Have done a big charity shop clear out of my wardrobe this am and got 2 bin bags of clothes I never wanna ware again. Need to make space for the new clothes to come in WHEN I have lost weight.

Ho Hum. Hope you are having a better day and avoiding the evil temptations.
Jenny. x

Hi Jenny..

Boy, do I know what you mean! I kept looking in cupboards and the fridge wondering what I could eat. I wasn't hungry, and didn't want biscuits or brownies (drat those children!).. I didn't know what I wanted. I think it's this not wanting to change thing.

Your brain is thinking "O.K... you've had your fun. Now, back to normal please". So in your case, if you can bully through for another week, your brain will stop fighting, and you will stop craving with your brain and the world will become a better place.
28 days, so I believe.

Hang in there!!

PP, I'm sorry I didn't reply to you yesterday but circumstances were out of my hands..
I had a drama yesterday when 1 dog was shut outside and one was left inside. They are brothers (same parents but different litters.. 2 years apart) and the one who was shut outside has never been alone. He didn't like it. The poor thing was obviously terrified and smashed through the hardwood and glass back door. When I got home the other dog was barking his head off and one was wimpering, and when I got into the kitchen, my beautiful boy was stuck half in and half out, covered in blood and surrounded by broken glass and smashed wood. Fortunately his thick fur saved him, and although he had cuts to his face, gums, lips, tongue, nose and paws, there was nothing major. He pushed himself through jagged glass stuck in the remaining door frame but only cut the fur, so it could have been sooo much worse.
After a trip to the vet to check for glass lodged in his gums and eyes he came home and hasn't left my side since. It's incredible how much blood comes from face wounds.. It was like a chainsaw massacre. I had to wash him off to see where the blood was coming from..

Door is boarded up now, floor cleared of all glass (boy was that fun) and everything washed down and back to normal.
Nothing like a good crisis to take your mind off food. I did hit the wine though..but only a glass.

I had to ring my husband whilst taking the dog to the vets in case he came home and thought we had been captured by some unfriendly foreign militia!!!

I wonder what excitement tomorrow will bring?

The furniture sounds wonderful.. Is you Parents new place nice ?

Juno ..x

OMG Juno,

What a drama! Glad to hear your dog is alright, and I am sure they will make sure they stick together in future.

Sandy

Hi Juno,
Your poor dogs, I am so sorry to hear about this accident and hope today the wounds look better. Was there really glass in his eyes? My god thats sooo scarey. Seems your vet did wonders. I hope they both are ok today as it must have been hugely traumatic for both of them. I also have 2 beautiful darling dogs whom I love sooooo much and I can only think that you coped so well not to go to pieces when you came into see all that blood and chaos. You deserved that glass of wine- believe me- and well done for stopping at one! What sort of dogs are they? I have a beautiful 4 and a half year old black lab- George, and a very cheeky mischievious westie 4yrs- Pippa. I would be so distressed if anything happened to either of them - Husband says I spend more time with them than him- could be true!

How you feeling today, bit shaken up I bet. Bet the Kids were upset too. Poor you.

Me- I seem to be in a better frame of mind today- Already drunk 1lt of water so thats a big improvement on the last few days. Still having this strange urge to clean things- you could have done with me yesterday eh? Not like me at all normally. I wonder ifs its a side effect of ketosis?

Hope tomorrows WI goes well, and that there are no more traumas today.

Give the dogs a hug from me. Jenny x

Oh, forgot to ask both Pink and Juno,
Is a wii worth getting?
What packages do you both use?
I know nothing about it (no kids here to teach us)
Is the Wii fitness instructor the same as wii fit?
Do you have to buy lots of extra things like boards/ handsets?
What are your favorite games/ activites?
Should I be asking santa for one of these???

Thanks guys, all advice appreciated to bring me upto the 21st century!:sign0009:

Oh Jenny, definately get a wii fit bundle, but either get in quick or wait a couple of weeks.

The Old Wii Fit is being replaced with Wii Fit Plus at the end of the month, so Wii Fit is being "specialled" off all over the place.

You need to get the software and a balance board, but they are making games all the time to use the balance board.. my youngest surfs and snowboards on it!

You can get wii fit and balance board for £59 at amazon, zavvi and several others.

When you buy the Wii itself they throw in Wii sports (but this is changing to wii sport resort, I believe) and they are going for about £139 at the moment (amazon etc). You need a remote for each person that is going to play, so if you plan on doubles tennis then you need to get another remote (you get one with the wii) and a charging dock so you just recharge the remotes instead of churning through batteries.. and that's it.

What is so good about it is that you can do it whenever you like, without factoring travel time, you don't need "gym clothes" Knickers and a t shirt (if you are brave) is fine and the games are all good fun and can be quite challenging if you throw yourself into it.. and you can lock your weight so no one else can see it :p!!

Look for a wii with a wii fit bundle..More later.. bathtime for boys!

Juno .. x

Thanks Juno,
I now really want a wii and come payday- 20th- who knows!
Have mentioned it to hub who seems to suddenly now want a playstation 3 ( he says the games are better), but I have my heart set on a wii!!!.
Have you done the WI yet??
Suspence is killing me!:D

5 lbs!!

Making a total of 15 lbs in 3 weeks!

So you were quite right when you said it was catchup!

Jeans are fractionally looser, but I reckon another 2 stone needed for a size loss. Are your clothes telling you anything that the scales aren't?

I'm getting a bit jaded with eating really. I get hungry but can't really get inspired about what to eat..how do you feel?

I have had the GoLower girls on the phone but couldn't talk. Have you broken the news to them yet?

The snag is we are off to sunny Greece next week.. there will be wine, and moussaka, but I will do my best.

The thing I'm scared of is that "put on half a stone in 3 days" thing.

About the Wii, get in first, then if he really wants a PS3 he can justify it :D..

He is probably right about the games being better, but I think it's a boy thing. I think the wii is better for groups and the PS3 is better for individual play, but as I look at 6 children of assorted ages, all playing guitar hero at the same time the wii does it for our family.

Juno .. xx

I agree with Juno, buy the Wii now....as my husband says, it's better to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

It's great for monitoring your weight, but only accurate to the lb doesn't do oz's, you do need the board for weighing.

If you get the Wii fitness instructor you don't need the board, the hubster and I both do this together and it's a great laugh.

Do it , you know you want to. :)

Thats Fantastic Juno,
Well done you.:happy096:
You must feel soooo chuffed, I am so pleased for you. :D
15lbs in three weeks- WOW!

Looks like the wine (in moderation) didn't stall you this week and I bet on your holiday there will be extra activities to burn off any surpless calories- walking, swimming, and maybe even ......! ;)

What a fab boost to go away already 1 stone + down, Hope you get lots of nice warm weather too- looks like we are in for a colder spell over here- hmmmm. Yes my jeans are looser too- but maybe they just need a wash- thats a real test getting them on fresh from the wash. I do know that my bras feel much looser-and my ample bosoms are looking less full- not sorry mind! Looking forward to being able to see my toes again! ;)

Was caught by a GL girl on the phone and said I was unlikely to continue beyond the month as I want more variety and to eat with hub more whilst continuing low carbing. She was fine. Very nice actually.I will miss the granola though. I have the stuff to try and make my own- from their web page members recipies- and will let you know ifs it nice. Can always buy their stuff if not. I don't eat eggs ( phobia not alllergy) so breakfasts tricky for me without it. I do seem to have at least 10 days spare meals and soups - so that should tide me over in the transition bit if desperate.

And hopefully, by the time you get back I'll be the proud owner of a Wii!

How are the dogs today?

Jenny x

Well here I am in sunny Greece.. Boys and husband are sailing and I have just managed to get them to fix the wifi!!

Jenny, tell me! Tell me!! what happened on Sunday?????

I haven't managed to get on until now. My 8 year old was sick Wed,Thurs,Fri which meant I got NOTHING done, and then we had to get up and go on Sunday morning at 3am because our flights were changed from midday without consulting us! I was not a happy bunny and definitely had words to say!

Still, although Saturday was a huge rush we got here, and I am delighted to tell you that holidaying in Greece for those on a low carb diet is a piece of cake! Barbequed meat, fresh salads, cauliflower cheese.. no bread or cakes for Juno though!

Sadly wine will be my downfall yet again :D
Childrens tea is at five, and we adults feel this constitutes the sun going over the yard arm, and the wine starts flowing. I am trying to keep the water going through the day to sort of compensate  but I don't hold out much hope!

Time will tell, but meanwhile tell me how you are getting on..
are you the proud owner of a wii? Did the weekend at your parents ruin your week??

..and PP, how are you getting on, although I think you have this whole thing sussed!

Oh, and I got the seatbelt in the plane done up!!...just.. but I managed!

I'll try and check in tomorrow.

Juno ..x

Hi Juno,
Ohh, I'm so jealous of you on your hols- wishing for some sunshine here, or even some warmth- Its been chilly and we have resorted to the electric blanket most nights now! Hope the rest is doing you all good and hope your 8 yr old is better!

Me, well, last sundays WI was 1.5lbs off, giving a grand total of 9lbs off in 4 wks with GL. Not too bad and a good kick start to the longer picture. I have now set myself a task of loosing 1 stone more by xmas and am going to be doing it by healthy low carb (ish) eating and alot more exercise. My food focus is really gonna be on healthy- so I'm enjoying alot more fruit and yogs and all veg whilst restricting spuds, rice, pasta and breads. I'm sure i'm out of ketosis now, but still feeling very good and not wanting to snack or pick often, and stopping eating when hungry ( amazed that I've been leaving food on my plate sometimes). I am also trying to continue the 2lts of water daily and think this really helps with both hunger and wt loss.

I have joined a gym- curves- which promises that a half hour workout 3x weekly will be enough to burn fat and change my shape. I've done this as it fits in with work and seems possible- they are also a very friendly bunch and its women only. Have you heard of this in your area?? My muscles are really aching afterwards and it does bring on a sweat and raised HR - so must be doing some good!

No wii as yet, but it was payday yesterday and I think i will be shopping for one this weekend! Also having a girly day out with couple of friends saturday and really looking forward to this. We are going to a quaint town called narberth in pembs which has all sorts of dinky individual shops and eateries and I'm hoping for a new handbag and gonna look in the antique shops for side tables and a piano stool!

I do actually feel thinner already, and my dog walking pals say my arse is def smaller! They are actually very supportive friends and I can tell myself that jeans are looser and my belt has gone in a couple of notches. Husband has not noticed anything as yet- but is pleased that we are eating the same meals again and very pleased about the gym. He is a man of few complements, and often does not notice new clothes, haircuts etc, so i'm not too disapointed in him! I suppose hes seen me dieting and stopping so often over the years it must just feel like normal to him. Bless.

Anyway, will stop rambling on.
Work to get ready for...
You have a great holiday and enjoy. Sounds like the food is ideal. I was in crete once and loved it, many years ago. Had a few too many metaxas though!

Take care! Jenny x

HI Ladies,

Slowing down big time now, not really lossed anything over the last 2 weeks, but I put this down to my socialising. :) saying that I haven't put on either so that's good.

However now that I have nothing really planned until Christmas I am going to be sticking to this stringently, without alcohol until the week before Crimbo!

Hopefully I can get back into losing the 2 stone I should be losing for then ~ fingers crossed.

Juno, I went to Crete about 7 years ago, that's where I did my open water for my diving, it's great out there, lots of history.

Jenny, I am lucky the hubster is on the same diet so we are losing weight together (same meals etc) however he is losing weight much faster than me Grr, but that's normal.

Hi Pink,
Good to hear from you and well done on your wt loss so far. Giving up alcohol for 9 weeks eh? I'm impressed, I only managed 2 weeks of total alcohol freeness and have since lapsed back into a couple of glasses of wine most evenings....bad I know, but there we go...

Why do men loose wt quicker than women then? I imagine GL works really well if you are doing it with your partner. My husband does not gain wt at all and still can fit into clothes from 20 years ago ( lucky him!).

By the way- I don't know if Juno is is crete- but its the only bit of greece I've ever been to and I really enjoyed it too!

Jenny x

OMG.

So a couple of days ago I weighed myself and I had lost a lb, yesterday I weighed and I had lost another lb and I thought yay I am getting back on track, then yesterday I had a few vodka and tonics, this morning I have put on weight.

Why did I have those V&T's, I have put myself backwards just for a couple of drinks. :sigh:

Hello Ladies.
Juno are you home yet? How was the holiday and how is the diet going? Pls update us when you can....

Pink, Hello again, and you are doing so well with your wt loss, I wouldn't worry about the odd week when theres little change on the scales- You are halfway to your goal and that is fantastic!!!!! Isn't it strange how a few little drinks can stall things though. When is your offical WI day Pink? Mine is sundays and Juno is thursdays.

I'm afraid I have no good news to report this week. I have had a STS. Suppose that is ok as I am not ketotic anymore and it is my TOTM and I am feeling V bloated. I also hope that its the gym starting to work as my muscles are aching +++.

Oh and yes, I am the proud owner of a Wii >smiles> and trying to master all the controls and gizmos involved, but I sure do love the tennis so far. Apparently my Wii age is 62 ( OMG I'm only 43) but I'm determined to reduce this...Here goes.....
