CD with Metformin

Thanks Gemma. I am due to meet with a CDC tomorrow but also think that my doctor is going to put me on metformin in July too so wanted to check xxx

I`d say it depends on why you`re on it.

I don`t think you can do CD if you`re diabetic. If it`s for PCOS, I think it is probably fine as long as you get a drs signature x

Yes, you can do Cambridge with metformin.

You do need a drs sig and they will need to monitor you, then assuming that's fine with your dr, you can do any of the CW plans :)

Yes you can :) It's a little more complicated, but many a diabetic has had great results with CWP reducing the need for medications :)

Hmmm I`m sure I read that you can`t  But I don`t have a clue as I`m only in my 3rd week, Whereas you know what you`r talking about ;) x

Thanks both! The metformin will be for PCOS so will mention to her this evening that I might be put on it in July! Thanks again xx

It used to be that only Type II Diabetics diet controlled or on Metformin could use Cambridge. However, the rules have changed and Type I and Type II Diabetics can use the programmes providing the forms are signed and GP involvement is a must.

I will let my friend know as we read through the Cambridge site the other night and it said not as she was insulin dependant.

Thanks to both of you :)

If she is insulin dependant there is strict management of the plans and she would never be able to do less than the 810 plan.

Her Consultant will take her through all the necessary steps.

i was on metformin for PCOS but on CD i don't think that there's a need for it cause the plan does what the metformin does.

i had to see a specialist consultant to get my doc to prescribe it but it was about 12 years ago. then i lost some weight on CD and fell pregnant. since that time i've not gone back on metformin. piled the weight on with both pregnancies but i think that when you loose with CD and get lower your own insulin starts to kick in.

i was given metformin as part of my PCOS was that i was insulin resistant.... meaning that my body took a very long time to digest sugars and my insulin levels were unstable and not doing their job properly. being insulin resistant does not mean that you are diabetic - unlike one stupid doc i went to see said. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!1

I couldn`t get on with Metformin. I hated the side affects I got being on it. I did lose some weight and got pg tho so it was worth it ;)

Would never take it again though.

it was the alternating constipation and pooping i didn't like but it did get better the longer i was on it.
