'Chasing Butterflies' - Team 7

Hi all,
Sorry, just not had time to catch up much the last few days. Busy with work, xmas, the usual stuff. Food needs took a bit of a back seat. The gain i had last week lingered and i was 3lb up at WI on Wed. Not too bothered though, scales have dropped since then. Will just plod on, still doing 1200 this week, and enjoying the meals. The odd 'cheat' but nothing catastrophic.
Good on you Mel for having the intergrity to stand by your beliefs and stand up against the bad practice within your work place. Can't be easy. Must be kind of nice to not have to work though, almost makes it a bit easier to be so bold...Unfortunately i have to work, and the NHS is rife with internal politics which you tend not to put yourself up against if you want to continue working! I do a fair bit of challenging, but still within limits. Sad, but true fact of many peoples work i suppose. Hope you cope ok with the change in life, must take some getting used to.
Pol, sorry your girlfriend is off for 6mths, must be tough on you both. Don't blame you for the indulgences... hope stomach feeling normal again and your back allowed a fair old crack at the xmas shopping. Sorry iforgot to answer your query,- i have the windsor pilates dvd's- about 10 of them. My mother got them from a shopping channel, got a ring and a resistance band too. It came as a programme, and they sent a new dvd every month or so till she cancelled them. They are really good, not too hard and supposed to be great for strengthening core muscles which ultimately support the back too. It doesn't feel too difficult to do, but you can feel the effect in a few days- i have to confess, its gone out the window at the moment, but i did enjoy it.
Hope everyone is doing ok, back in work next few nights, so will catch up again when can. xx

Hi Butterfly,

You are all too right about "Must be kind of nice to not have to work though, almost makes it a bit easier to be so bold..." I could not be so bold, if I knew I HAD to work. And, I think also that it why I felt like I HAD to say something: for the other people who HAVE to be there and endure. I could ahve just quit and not a said anything -- but helps no one, especially the students. There is a real problem there and it is only going to get worse if it is not addressed. So, I can leave knowing that I did what I could to improve things -- the ball is now in their court.

I feel better every minute that passes. I will miss the kids, some of my co-workers, the routine, and I am sure the money... but my family, sanity, health, etc. have to come first.

I need to get busy with Christmas with all the stress I have had no energy to accomplish very much of anything these past few weeks. I am going to do my best to be positive and productive.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

MM

At least now Mel, you may be able to enjoy the holidays without feeling so weighed down by those problems, and may start to feel better in yourself. I felt terrible about my job for ages, yet continued to plod on and put up with it, beacause there was no scope for change within the system, recently moved to a new area and actually enjoy work again now and feel that same sense of relief for getting away from the job that was dragging me down. Life just feels better in general, even despite the increased hrs. Heres hoping your stand will make a change and force them to examine whats going on there.
I am putting off working, i need to start on the spare room and bedroom, we started a clear out the other day and only got halfway through...its at that 'gets worse before it gets better' stage right now, don't know where to start!
Still planning for as close to a 100% week as i can get! Hope you are all ok? xx

Thanks Butterfly -- Your kind words are very helpful. I got some wrapping done, and that is a help. I, too, need to clear up and set up the extra bedroom as my great-neice is coming with my son for the holidays. And, I know what you mean... it always seems to go from bad to worse before you finally get things right. And, I guess not just when it comes to sorting out a room. LOL

Bless mothers... mine arrived to look after DD when i was in the middle of my room chaos, and then proceeded to help me remedy it. So most of got done in the end, another task almost complete at last. At work now and got 5 mins peace to catch up. Hope everyone is ok. Just had a naughty biscuit, these fresh starts are not happening....grrr... i will do it one of these days. xx

HI All,

Went out for a coffee with a friend, and we ended up going Christmas shopping. Got a lot done in that regards and plan to get what I have bought to date wrapped tonight (After DD gos to bed), and then make up a precise list of what I need to get to finish up my shopping.

I have also been looking on-line to order things to have sent to my family in the States, as I have not shopped or packed a box to send from here... and it is really too late at this point to do so. I think after 15 years of living in Europe, I am burnt out on sending those "cute things you cannot get in the States". It is hard to know what to send, as they (like most Americans) have entirely too much stuff, already.

I hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Hi all,
Thats why we decided to make our presents this yr, people just have way too much stuff! Hopefully they'll appreciate the effort, and if they don't- they don't deserve it anyway! Made fudge today as a trial, went ok, and was way too tempting so not been very good really. It seems like the scales did start to move down in my favour though. Stuck at work and putting off cleaning! Hope you are all ok. Where is everyone? xx

Hi Butterfly,

I have some very good -- nearly foolproof recipes if you want.

Hi all my fellow butterfly chasers,
I am now back from my week away at work in Norfolk. Butterfly, I hope you are not advertising my space..boo..hoo!!! as I am still here....just a bit hectic at work this time of year and just can't get to the computer..I have just fnished an 83 hour week and am exhausted....but keep counting the pennies it is going to bring me. I was weighed on Friday after my night shift and had put on a lb...I was not too disappointed as after a frantic week at work...I know that I missed loads of shakes and was having roast chicken from Sainsbury from the rottisserie or prepacked in a box..as had no facilities whilst I was away to roast my own...so could be the added ingredients in those that caused the gain or could be that I missed a good few shakes...just don't know and not too bothered at the moment...too tired to care....I am back on track and will be weighed again next Monday as my CDC is away for the week to Cyprus...lucky her!
Trying to catch up on all the posts..but there is loads to read...hope you are all well and on track....this time of year is going to be trying for all of us but I am determined to be good....if I slip however I am not going to beat myself up too much....but I am not planning to fail.
Anyway speak soon...and stay good.

Welcome Back Nicki-M,

The one pound could be retained water from all the salt processed stuff has in it. I'll bet you're back on track in no time.

MM

Hi all.
Welcome back Nicki, i would never advertise your space you daft mare, i knew you were away at work. I've not had as much chance to waffle as i normally do, and the diet is down the pan. I've sort of been making it up as i go along for a few days. Trying to keep cals low but not been planning/cooking properly, just been too busy to be bothered to be honest. Terrible attitude i know, but these patches happen, then i pick self up and carry on again. Suppose i could try to make tomorrow my restart again. No reason why not i guess...
Mel, i'd love a few more ideas, need stuff that can be done reasonably quick and will store well. I've made beetroot chutney, that i am giving in on now, will come back to it in morning to reduce it and bottle, also made a mustard relish, but it does not taste like mustard. Fancy doing some non-jar items too, like biscuits/sweets but not too sure what to do, and how to wrap so they look nice. Most stuff needs airtight containers and they are just not attractive!
Off to bed soon. Speak soon xx

Evening girls!

I am soooo incredibly hungry today and I just don't know why - proper stomach rumbling that won't stop! Don't think that it helps that I am sooooo bored with the lack of flavours and already sick of the sight of veg soup! I JUST WANT AN APPLE!

Nigella also did a few things on her Christmas programme this week (must stop watching food programmes!!): BBC - BBC Two Programmes - Nigella's Christmas Kitchen
As for wrapping - coloured cellophane looks great (try cake craft shops) and Paperchase have some nice boxes. As for airtight...... I usually make things the last minute and then putting them in something airtight is the recipient's problem, or I like the flip storage jars: Storage

Right, need to do something to take mind off my rumbling tummy..... getting desperate.......!

Hope you've all had a good day.

WI a day early today - 3lbs down and another 4 inches. (Downside is that my beautiful Rigby & Peller bras are getting too big - booooo! Anyone with 30-32H boobs who wants my cast-offs let me know!!) Plan was to have lost a stone by the end of term, and I reckon I'll have shifted the last lb by Friday! Woo-hoo! Wish my damn pony would trot a bit faster though!! Only 15lbs until I reach a healthy BMI, so will see if I can crack that in the next 4-5 weeks.

Thanks girls for all of your support - (nearly) half way there and I couldn't have done it without you. xx

Me again advice please im away to the Algrave on christmas eve morning was thinking of doing CD while away what do u think?? SS+ my mum aint happy about that lol x

I did when I went to Scotland -- it saved me a fortune. I only bought one meal a day and did not have to hunt for something I wanted to eat -- I had it on hand. I was able to focus on the holiday and not on food.

I think I am not going to weigh myself this week. My last day at work was today -- ver touching so many kids were hugging me and telling me how much they'd miss me, etc. And, so next week I will endevour to do better... but since I weigh on Saturdays, I might hop on and take my lumps... I am sure I have gained. The clothes don't lie.

Hi all,
Had WI on Wed and i had sts, which, considering my awful week, i was more than happy with. Trying to get back on the wagon again to shift a few pre-xmas but struggling because of all the cooking i am doing. Not going to moan too much, as i am just in a good mood, no particular reason. Just a happy moment.
I did ss with nibbles on last holiday (uk), regretted the nibbles because i never quite stopped after that. But it wasn't as bad as eating loads all week. Hope you have a great time, you lucky thing!
Aww, Mel, the kids sound so sweet, they will miss you, sound like you have great rapport with them. Hope you get on ok reducing the lumps!
Hope everyone else is ok? xx
