I find DDs easier and struggle to keep within a normal calorie count on UDs. Not sure if anyone else finds they are in control more on DDs, but I hope keeping a diary will help. I guess even though I decided to do this permanently (for the health benefits) I'm struggling to accept that in order to also lose weight I need to increase the DDs and be better on the UDs. I started with 2 DDs a week (on the 5:2 diet) but I like the fasting days so much that I increased them to 3. Not sure if that is the correct ratio, but I prefer to have set days (Monday-Wednesday-Friday) than alternating..

Hmm I ended up being good at the lunch buffet but then not so good afterwards :-( today was a planned UD, but now I feel guilty for only having 2 DDs this week.

I would like to try to not eat after 7 tomorrow so then Monday can be a 24 hour fast.

This is the best plan ever! If only I had discovered it earlier... I remember I first heard about IF 10 years ago but only as a dieting method and it sounded... well.... cray. After I read about the health benefits and how much research has been done I was really impressed. With my family history of cancer I knew I had to get healthier but could not motivate myself to lose the 2 stone I need to and start exersising. Now I have desided that I will follow this for ever and will eventually get to my ideal weight. Still need to motivate myself to exercise, and get my UDs under control but it now seems achievable!

chryssa hi ! im only on my third day but for some reason i feel as though something has CLICKED if that makes any sense ! like u i need motivation for exercise but hopefully that will happen too ! good luck - jen x

That's exactly how I feel Jen, it just clicked! It makes sense, and if it really delivers all the promised health benefits then brilliant!

I am a bit upset with how people see this plan. At work my colleagues where saying yesterday why could I not follow a sensible eating plan and just maintain a healthy weight? I have been a healthy weight most of my life (even though I always felt "fat" :() and really my biggest weight struggles are post pregnancy... I know it should not take 7 years to lose 2 stone but I'm not perfect and it did...

Anyway, I am optimistic this time because I don't view this as a diet that will end once I reach my target. I might reduce my DDs when I reach my target (even though at this rate it will take me a few months ) but this is a plan for life for me.

It was meant to be my DD yesterday but decided to have an UD because I was off work and prefer to keep DDs for working days. So DD here I come today.

Again I feel great about the DD but was not that great with my UP. Note to self, the UDs are not for binge eating

Your problem with post pregnancy weight....same here, I was just at the top of 'healthy', occasionally wandering into overweight by a couple of lbs till the kids, then I put on 2stone that never came off with the 1st, and another 1stone with the second. I've nearly lost the 3 rd stone now, but the initial two have been there for 11 years now and really haven't budged at all. Hopefully this time...!
it sounds like you are using the plan well and making it fit around your lifestyle, which I think it has to do if you are going to be able to stick with it. Well done on your progress so far! Are you up all weekend..if so, enjoy! Hannata and others seem to say that the urge to binge on ups tails off after a few weeks, so don't worry too much about it.

Good luck with getting rid of the last two stone!

I think that maybe because 2 or 3 stone is not such a huge amount to lose it is actually harder to shift it sometimes  I go through phases of being good, lose 1 and then pile it back on. I worry not only about the way I look (honestly it is all on my belly and face!) but most iportantly for my health. I suppose that is one of the reasons why IF or 5:2 or JUDDD appealed to me and possibly that is why I'm so motivated on my DDs. It is for the health benefits of fasting and not the weight loss. That's just an added bonus..

Oh I really wish I stop the binge eating on my up days... I was thinking that maybe I should follow the Slimming Word principles on the UDs, so I'll get my books out and give that a go!

How have you got on today? I try to follow GL on up days...not too strictly, but enough to keep healthy. I also like just having a plan, so I know what I'm planning to eat on ud or dd. but I know that would not work for some people, for who the freedom is the key thing on uds. I'm sure you will soon work out what is best for you!

I did ok I guess... I try to start the fast on Sunday evening at 7 and that works a treat as it stops me eating crap in front of the telly. I know I keep moaning about the UDs however this week I managed to stop eating wheat and feel a lot better for it. GL seems very interesting, I'm looking into it and considering how it could work for my UDs. I don't think freedom works for me, I really need a plan!

GL is a great way to eat I think. It's never really helped me lose weight as I still eat quite a lot on it! But I do feel much healthier when I'm not eating all the sugar and fast carbs, and I certainly don't put on weight.

Anothe half kilo (just under a pound) off this week so quite pleased with that. It might take a bit longer (around 20 weeks at this rate ) but I will reach my healthy weight target this time! And maintain it!

I had a DD from Sunday at 7 and kept it to 500 cals. Really looking forward to breakfast (my favourite quorn sausages and eggs - no bread) and then I have chick pea stew ready for lunch and maybe dinner as DH is out with work tonight and I don't fancy cooking another meal just for me.

I have nothing unhealthy in the house so hope to eat well today with no binge eating incidents :wave_cry:

I think thats the good attitude. It doesn't matter how long it takes you. as long as you get there. I think about how frustrating it is trying to lose weight, but the alternative is not trying and I know I'd be gaining 0.5 lb per week otherwise!

Your food sounds lovely - I'm making a chickpea and chorizo stew for dinner can't wait :)

Just seen that you said you are going to do this permanently for the health benefits - me too! The horizon programme and all the reading I;ve sone since just blew me away. Weight loss is almost a pleasant side effect when you consider all the other benefits.

I already 'feel' better. I can't put my finger on how exactly, but I just do. I don't seem to have as many mad food cravings? Maybe its because I'm not in a constant cycle of denial/over indulging. Also my skin is really good.

I read that Michael Mosley who presented the Horizon doc has moved to a 6:1 version as he was getting too skinny!
