Dave's diary - back on plan, back on Minimins

As you may have guessed, I would recommend swimming to anyone! But having said that, I don't think it helps with my weight loss. But it definitely helps shape your body, tone muscles, get fit and improve your stamina. I love it, and am looking forward to the morning, because I'm going again!

Here we are again ... the start of another week ...

I am back to work from today, late shifts. It's great to not have to get up at silly o'clock for a while.

I am off swimming soon, then I have to pick up some bananas and also get myself a new inner tube to replace the one that blew out yesterday. I'm only tempting fate by not having a spare with me I reckon. I am considering buying myself a new set of tyres. Not only would they be proper road tyres but they would also have kevlar in them and be stronger and more resistant to punctures in the first place.

I have to have my dinners at lunchtime this week as I will in effect be taking my lunches to work with me as packing up. Today lunch is one of my favourites - Quorn balti. Thanks to my friend Marie for picking up more balti powder for us as we can't get it anywhere round here, grrr.

After work I will be on the Wii fit, probably only for a half hour jog though. I find it gives me excellent results, and doesn't take too long to do either. Quick bath then beddybyes :)

Tomorrow is shopping day, but again I hope to squeeze a swim in before lunch and before work. And Wii fit again after work.

Think that will be the pattern while I am on lates.

It is sad to only just get my bike back then not go on it for a while but it would mean missing out on the swimming which I don't want to do.

When I am early turn again, I think I'll be able to both swim and cycle, and miss out on the Wii fit. Well, that's the plan haha.

And of course when I am off, I can do whatever I like :)

Had better get going if I want to squeeze everything in ... ttfn ♥

Hope you have a good week mate! Let's 'av it! x

WooooooooooHoooooooooo!!

I went into the bike shop to get my replacement inner tube, and also asked about the kevlar lined 'anti-puncture' tyres. £40 for the pair. Lovely I said, and ordered them. We then get talking about road bikes ... and it seems there is a 2010 coming in in a couple of weeks, and the cheapest one kicks of at £399. Much cheaper than I thought I could get a road bike for. Great make too.

So ... I spoke to the wife ... agreed to trade in a lads weekend away that was planned for end of April and also to make do with the tyres I currently have on my mountain bike, and Bob's your Uncle - I'm allowed to buy a new bike :):):)

Not sure where I'm getting the rest of the money from but I'll work something out lol.

And having a road bike means I CAN do the 100km sponsored ride in June, so I'll be tapping you all up for sponsorship sometime soon haha.

My neck has stopped aching now almost completely, and I have near-full movement in my head back now with only a little discomfort. But now my right shoulder, back, and left side really ache lol. I have a feeling it is ALL caused by swimming, but also that it is nothing serious. I think I am using muscles I simply have never ever used before. They certainly seem to be turning up in the strangest of places lol. For now I'm gonna keep up the same level of effort and hope that I can get through it, but if it gets much worse I'm gonna have to take a break.

Talking of effort, I have now gone from only managing breastroke, to the occassional crawl, and now I do every other length crawl, and take turns with those in between with breast stroke and back stroke.

I am at work at the moment, in 'the dungeon' (concrete room, no windows, below St Pancras station) where we have our breaks. I've still got a lot of work ahead of me (not that it ever really feels like work haha), and I should be home about midnight.

I will be straight on the Wii fit, do my half hour free jog while I catch up with some of the telly I can't watch when the wife and kids are about (nothing naughty, just poker lol), then bath and bed.

Shopping day tomorrow, we'll do it when I get up. The wife especially, and myself to a certain extent, are getting a little bored with the same meals over and over, so between today and next week's shopping day we are going to make a concerted effort to trawl through all the SW magazines, the recipe thread on here, and also the SW site for some new ideas. Having said that, I would be happy to have Quorn balti every day lol.

After shopping tomorrow I will be swimming, then home for lunch, and off to work - same duty as today. So hopefully I'll be back this time tomorrow to tell you how all my aches and pains have gone ;)

Good night all :)

p.s. Did I mention I was getting a road bike? :D:D:D

We got our shopping done this morning while the kids were at school - you just can't beat NOT having to drag the kids around Tesco!

Then I went swimming. I am still aching today, but for the first time since the pain started I noticed it in the pool - doing front crawl was making my neck/shoulder ache. Not enough to make me stop or slow down, but it was nice to have a clue as to what was causing it lol. I'm not swimming tomorrow anyway as I am out playing badminton in the morning (luckily for me all my aches are down my left, and I am right handed). Because of getting up earlier than I would normally tomorrow for badminton, I also can't do Wii fit tonight. If I wasn't working tomorrow I wouldn't mind losing a bit of sleep but have to be very careful as a train driver.

Friday night after work I will be Wii fitting unless I am hurting from the badminton, and Saturday I will be swimming in the morning before work - either properly on my own, or with the family and just having a play around.

Saturday night I won't get home until about 02.00 in teh morning, and despite being off work Sunday I won't do any Wii fit as I won't want to waste the Sunday all day in bed!

Sunday we will either be doing the family swim (if not done Saturday) or I will be going alone for a proper swim. And hopefully after a little break my aching my go away.

I'm off work Sunday and Monday, which is gonna be great, then Tuesday I am back to getting up before half three in the morning!! How did that come round so fast again? lol

I used to think the key to this diet was the planning, and it is certainly the case with my job to fit around. But to fit in regular exercise is a nightmare and you have to plan several days in advance lol.

Hope you're all having a good week so far, and managing to stick to plan, good luck with your weigh ins :)

hey Dave, well done on that 4 stone award, you'll be catching me up in no time:) I went back to see Super Sal this week and rejoined, have a few extra excess lbs to shift but once i'm back into the swing of things I'll kick them into touch!Good to see you're as enthusiastic as ever. You are soooo dedicated to get all that exercise done too!

Hi Dave,

Congratulations on the 4 stone award, I got mine last week too.

Have not been on here for a while and have just spent 30 mins catching up on your diary - it is very motivating. I was struggling a bit this week, but you have helped me back on track again.... :D Thanks!

I ached too when I first started swimming, but it did get better after the first couple of weeks. However, I only do breast stroke though, haven't advanced to front crawl yet...

Hope you have a good loss again this week.

congrats on the 4 stone award ,you are doing fantastically well.

swiming gives me neck and shoulder ache too, in my case its because i dont like putting my face in the water ( yeah i know i'm w wimp) and hold my head up gives me neck strain !!

Bayside, I bet Sally was pleased to see you! You must be one of your classes biggest inspirations so I reckon it will work both ways - they can be geed on by you, and vice versa. There is nothing you don't know about SW but going to the classes just seems to give that extra little nudge when you need it. Best of luck for your 'first' WI :)

Slinkydreams, congrats on your four stone award, it's an amazing achievement isn't it? I'm so proud, and you should be too :)

Mommyb, I know what you mean about aching, and in fact that leads me nicely ...

Since upping my game in the pool, I have been experiencing some bad aching - my neck, left shoulder, top of back. I have continued to swim throughout assuming I would just get through it. Sadly it has become a problem at work - as a train driver I have a lot of upper body twisting to see the sides of the train, and even a simple thing like lifting up my left arm to operate equipment has become hard! So my initial idea of just ignoring the problem can't do :(

I had a break from swimming yesterday (due to playing badminton), and I am no better today (other than now having an aching right shoulder from the badminton lol but that is ok). I've invested in some Deep Heat, and my lovely wife has just rubbed it into all the problem areas. OMG I am on fire!! Hope it helps. In the meanwhile I am still taking painkillers and I won't be swimming today again. I plan on going back in the pool tomorrow, having a proper swim, and then the wife and boys can join me for a messabout.

Tonight I am not home from work until about 2 in the morning, so I am also giving the Wii fit a miss as it would mean I miss a lot of tomorrow due to sleeping. I will just go straight to bed when I get home.

It's been a strange week for my weight so far. On weigh in day, in the morning (naked on my own scales) I was 19st 7lb. The next THREE days I put weigh ON all three of them lol. Yesterday I was 2lb heavier than I was on Tuesday :( Today ½lb is back off again, but I am still 1½lb heavier than back on Tuesday. Annoying!! People say you shouldn't weigh daily, but I have always liked to. I shall continue to, until such time it is hindering rather than helping me. The only WI that really matters of course is my weekly WI on Tuesdays, and even those don't REALLY matter I guess, as some weeks your body just doesn't want to lose any weight - but on these weeks you tend to notice your belt goes up one hole tighter, or clothes seem looser, or you find a muscle you've never noticed. Weight is just one aspect of this, and regardless of what the scales tell me I know that I am sticking to plan and doing plenty of exercise.

I really hope I don't show an increase on Tuesday WI, but I can cope with a STS. I have had enough fantastic results since late September to know the plan works perfectly, and I must be due some bad results as I am yet to have any.

Exciting news ... I was in a High Street shop the other day and bought a new belt. OK, nothing particularly exciting about that, except that previously I would have been unable to get a belt in a normal shop - I would have had to go into a specialised bigger clothing shop or ordered it online. I can shop in town WooHoo!! And to celebrate ... I bought some new pants in Tesco earlier lol.

Hi all.

Quick update : aching is still there but not so bad. Maybe it has gone down because I didn't swim for a couple of days, maybe it just went down on it's own anyway, who knows? I swam again yesterday and don't feel any worse the wear for it so that's good. My ear is still causing me lots of grief. I went to the Docs and he said I had some wax which was blocking water in, and to use some eardrops to clear it, but now it doesn't feel like there's water in it it just feels like I'm wearing an earplug!! Very muffled in that ear. Hope it clears soon in case it gets me into bother at work, grrr. Will leave it a few more days and if nothing has changed I'll get back to the doctors for another checkup.

For the first time since my last official WI day, my weight was lower this morning than it was that morning. Only by half a pound, but it's all good. Was starting to prepare myself for an increase at tomorrow's WI but touch wood that won't be the case now.

I've gotta visit a friend in hospital this afternoon, so I'm taking the train to Gillingham, will ride from there to the hospital, then ride all the way back to Sittingbourne instead of getting on the train. Gotta pick something up for the wife from Argos which is big so then it is a train ride back. Took me ages to work out how to incorporate a ride into today but I got there lol.

Back to work tomorrow, getting up at half three in the morning, yuk!

Good luck all for the week ahead, hope the Gods of WI are kind to you :)

glad to hear weight has dropped again, you deserve a loss for all your hard work :)

Weigh in day is upon me again, and it seems I may have celebrated a little early!

This morning I was ¼lb heavier than I was a week ago today :( It's been a very odd week for my weight, and I'm hoping this morning's result is due to getting up at stupid o'clock!!

I would say that worst case scenario I am looking at a STS tonight, but hopefully I'll lose SOMETHING, anything will do lol.

I feel fitter than I ever have, things that used to be hard seem so simple now, and I am still amazed as to how fast and how easy I found my 10 mile ride yesterday. My body is looking better than I ever remember it. If my weight doesn't wanna play ball for one week, I don't really mind. But a loss would be good :)

good luck for wi tonight, it's great you are feeling so much fitter and healthier, the weight will continue to drop but some weeks may be slower than others.

Good luck tonight. Hope to see that it is a loss and you will be celebrating but don't get dscouraged if it is a sts or a gain. Your body may have built some muscle and you may find you need to go down another notch on the belt.

The scales will cooperate next week if they don't today

Keep up the excellent work

Teresa

Thanks all for your positive thoughts ... they worked!!

I lost 2lb last night which I was well pleased with :) Not that I don't think I deserve it of course haha, but I really wasn't expecting it. I do like nice surprises!

That takes me to a milestone ... 60lb lost now since joining SW back in September. I had no idea this would work so well, and am so pleased I finally discovered it after years of wasting my time on other diets.

I'm only 3lb off my 4½ stone award now, and I think I should pick that up in the next week or two.

Continuing the good news, all my aches and pains seem to have gone. I have to assume it is swimming that caused them, as I haven't been for a couple of days. Perhaps I should start to go every other day instead of every day, to give my muscles a chance to develop slowly without asking too much of them.

On a temporarily sadder note, my ear is still giving me some problems, saw the doctor a second time yesterday and they have now decided it needs to be syringed. Which involves putting olive oil in it for a week first, and also includes a ban on swimming until it is done, Grrrr.

Not to worry though, my bike is in great condition and I can get out riding more in the meanwhile :)

Talking of bikes, I have put a deposit down on a new bike, well it's 2nd hand but will be new for me. A road bike, drop handles, I'm very much looking forward to getting used to a new style of riding. I wonder how funny it will look for my fat bum to be poking in the air when I am on such a slim bike lol. Luckily for me, it won't be fat too much longer.

According to the SW website journey log thingamebob, if I continue to lose weight at the rate I have been so far I should reach my goal later this year which is SUPERB!! In fact, if I reach it TWO MONTHS later than expected I will still be at goal by Christmas.

I of course don't read too much into it, but it certainly puts a light at the end of the tunnel. And come Christmas ... bring on the Ferrero Rocher hehe.

Hope you're all ok, enjoying the plan and reaping the rewards x

Really glad to see you lost again this week, as I see that you weren't sure that you would this time! You're doing phenomenally well and with all the effort you put in you really deserve it. :)

congrats on the 2lb loss this week, you'll be Sally's Man of the Year and no doubt about it lol:)
You are on an incredible journey and i know you'll get to target, hopefully by Xmas too!

Thanks ladies, everything does seem very positive right now :)

I had planned on going for a good ride yesterday but after a walk around town with my neighbour I decided it was just too cold lol. Epic fail on my part I guess. Really should get tracksuit bottoms or something!

I hope to have a ride after work today, although it depends when I get away as I also have the weekly shop to look forward to when I'm done.

After vowing to spend the week searching out new fresh recipes for dinners we finally started looking last night. And came up with one. And it's not even that new really, just a version of something we have had before lol. If it ain't broke, don't fix it hehe.

Had Quorn balti last night, it remains my favourite SW meal by a long way. Hard to believe it is part of a diet at all!!

I am working late turn next Tuesday, and have applied for annual leave so I can get to WI. If I get it, I plan to have a chinese afterward. Haven't had a chinese since starting on SW and I reckon we're due one lol. I'll be saving up a few syns on the run up to the Tuesday, and will go syn free on the day until it's time for the chinese. Then all bets are off lol. I would much prefer an indian but the wife has always preferred chinese and she has a yearning. And I know better than to come between the wife and a yearning hehe. When I have lost another 4 stone we can have an indian :)

you can still have an Indian from time to time Dave, there are quite a few lower syn options.

Have you tried Moroccan Pie ( think that's what it's called!)? It's in the Green Day recipe book, very tasty and worth a try if you've not had it before.
