Starting again...
Hi everyone.
I just dont know what to do. I have about 8 stone to lose now. I have tried diets and failed at all of them. I have 5 kids to look after and cant get to the gym because of childcare :( and cost!
I want to know how you get a gastric band/ bypass?? Drastic I know but I just dont know what to do. I cant afford LL or any of them anymore. Ive got a draw full diet pills that havent worked or made me feel ill. I have not asked my gp as i dont want her to laugh at me. what do you need to be considered for surgury?

Hi

Your post is really sad and I can only urge you to see your GP. If he/she can't help then find another. They won't laugh - there are so many people with weight issues - look at Minimins!

My GP was lovely and really understanding. I got some therapy which, I must admit wasn't right for me, but there are all different types on offer. Chuck out your diet pills and go and have a chat. I only have one child and that's quite enough - you must be very stressed with no time at all to yourself.

The GP may offer free weight loss programmes (I think they do it with SW) etc. I'm sure you've tried them before but I guess the plan has to be stuck to for it to work and maybe you gave up due to being depressed/stressed/lack of time etc.

Go on - give it another go! - you deserve it and need to look after yourself as well as your kids :)

Hi
I am sorry that you are feeling stuck at the moment. I had about the same to lose (still have quite a lot to lose). I felt I had tried everything and I had researched gastric bands on the internet and due to not being able to afford one I went to the GP in desperation. Because I didn't have a health condition and was just below the BMI that was required I was advised that it wouldn't be funded on the NHS. But he did give me Xenical (Orlistat) where you follow a low fat diet and attend the GP's for weigh ins. Quite a few people on the xenical forum on here are doing really well. Unfortunately I wasn't one of them with that diet but didn't give up, ok had a bit of a breather after the disappointment. I decided to try Atkins/ Low carb and it just happens that is what is suiting me now. I don't think every diet is for everybody. Currently Iam not doing tons of excersise but am hoping to build it up, like going for longer walks with my dogs. I don't use a gym, I lost my job a couple of months ago so definately couldn't afford one. Would the kids perhaps like to walk out somewhere, a park or beach that you live near to maybe. As you have 5 kids maybe rope a friend or family member into coming with you to help so that you can relax a little when out. Try and go for small steps like walking, or drinking more water and see what you accomplish. The right eating plan for you will come along. Look into the different boards as you may see one that you might find good and affordable for you.
Take care and let us know how you get on x

I started off at a similar weight to you, and with a medical condition which meant that exercise has been impossible for years. As I work full time and have 3 kids (one of whom is seriously disabled) I'd been struggling a lot.

As you can see from my ticker, I've lost 50lbs since December just by counting my calories. With the help of a physiotherapist I've tentatively begun some low-impact easy exercise this week - but prior to that didn't do any at all. I do stick to my eating plan 100% and often end up eating differently to the rest of the family (who are all very active and don't have the health issues!)

I know what you're saying about gym and childcare (a specialist babysitter costs well in excess of £25 an hour for my son IF we can get one!) but I wanted to post my experiences to show that it can be done without the exercise. Diet alone can honestly do it.

If you feel a gastric band is for you, then go and chat to the GP about it. I'm sure they'll be sympathetic. I agree with Cokes - different diets suit different people. See what the GP says. Mine's been wonderfully supportive in ways I hadn't anticipated.

Good luck with it, whatever you decide on in the future :)

I tried everything, pills, different diets etc. The only diet that I liked and got along with was slimming world and i lost a stone last year because of it. Go see your GP she/he won't laugh at you. They deal with things like this every day. My MIL went to her GP and now shes just lost 2 stone. Must be worth a try :) x

Thanks everyone i will go to my gp and see what she advises. thanks.

Hi Hun I had 14 to lose in jan last year almost 8 of those have gone now. It really is possible it just takes huge willpower, but I do think something has to click in your head and you have to really really want it otherwise it will not work. I don't believe in gimmicks or pills etc just watching calories and exercise. I would say weightloss is 10 percent in your tummy 90 percent in your mind. I still have ups and downs and a long way to go but confidant I will get there. Good luck x

Deffo talk to gp. My mil is having major issues with her weight and is discussing a gastric band with her docs. However they have also recommended other options like slimming world on referral.

Just remember that an operation like gastric band or bypasss still requires a lot of work after the op. You need to watch what you eat, have it in tiny portions and sometimes in liquid form!! Mil is giving sw a final go as in her words she doesnt like the idea of living off baby food right now!!

hiya

I can totally see where you are coming from. I have been like this for years. Saying this an dthat doesn't work. Deep down I know it's finding something that works and sticking to it, they all work if we put the effort in. I have just started lighterlife and to be honest don't know how long I will last, it's driving me nuts already. Only on day 3 and eat on day 2!!!

What I am trying to say is you are not alone in this there are plenty of us about who struggle and struggle. I am hoping something clicks in with me and that's it.......

We live in hope....

Keep your chin up and pop on here for a chat anytime.

The invisible posts strike again :sigh: lol!!

I would suggest talking to your doctor for sure, the only thing is with surgery you HAVE to be in the right headspace. People think its a cure, but its really not, just like any other diet you can cheat, and its not a failsafe solution. It's a pretty major op to put yourself through.

Hi guys thats for the replies, ive decided to give cambridge another go. I went to the docs and she gave me orlistat.. but the thought of having a bad tummy and wind put me off.. last thing i need when in town with my double pushchair is a bad tummy lol so i start back on cd next friday ;))
