Dinkie Dawnies Dubious Diary of Downsizing, Deflation, and Debauchery

Dawn.............I love the recipes in the little book, Comfort food and am going to try at least 4 of the dishes in the next week. I particularly like the look of The Welsh Onion Cake. I can have it with poached eggs and grilled tomatoes and Paul can have it with bacon and grilled tomatoes.............yummy !!!

Sue, I also thought about having it with pork or lamb chops, or even a roasted joint.

Ok you've convinced me, i HAVE to try the ham/egg muffins. They sound yummy!
Your stats are fabulous, over 25%!
I have a long way to go but you show that it CAN be done :)

Hi and welcome!!! Great decision to come back to SW...you won't regret it! I would say don't look at the whole journey ahead of you...break it down into half stones and then it doesn't seem so daunting x

And definitely try the muffins lol! I had them for tea with a huge salad and they were lovely!

Oh my goodness! How lovely to hear from you Laura! What are you up to? Xxx

Not up to much, working hard and living sober!! Got two jobs now plus still studying so not a lot of spare time at the moment. Not really doing SW at the mo, I'm trying to eat healthily, but bf is cooking most of my evening meals, so they aren't always as healthy as I'd like, although he does try :)

Well it's really good to hear from you Laura x And I'm glad you're ok, even if it does sound like you're working too hard!

Evening ladies :)

Feeling very smug today as I managed 1 1/2hrs at the gym today...and I'm still alive! I was like a mad thing! Running (not far!), rowing, cycling, cross trainer and weights! And actually I don't feel too achy...maybe it'll hit me tomorrow! I'm not sure when I can go again as I'm working tomorrow and Friday and I imagine it gets busy at the weekend.

The rest of my day was spent pottering doing housework etc. and then I picked Gwyn up from the train station again as he went with his granddaughter to Birmingham for another drama school audition.

And that's about it for today. Just watched a disgusting program following food inspectors as they check shops and restaurants etc for cleanliness. The mice and rats I could cope with...but the cockroaches were a definite step too far for me!!!

Hmmm...not the best moment to post my food perhaps!

Can't believe it's WI tomorrow! And it's Daniels birthday tomorrow so we're going for an Indian straight after! Unfortunately Gwyn can't come as he'll be staying overnight in Liverpool with Emma again as she has an early morning audition there on Friday.

Good luck for WI tomorrow (or later today now!) and a happy birthday to Daniel

Don't come and live in Spain. Roaches are the norm . . . everywhere, especially in country villages. We have an ongoing battle with them.
Not frightened of mice, spiders, snakes, beetles - and roaches are only big beetles. But I HATE THEM. They really give me the creeps. Hubs has to deal with them for me while I scream and shake.

Thanks Bev, and so pleased to read your news about Uncle P :)

I don't really cope with anything that has lots of legs tbh. My biggest fear is spiders I'm terrified of them!

You are doing well Dawn. I don't know about you but I feel so bettereating the SW way..............

Tonight I am trying the Cheesy Broccoli Potato bake, will let you know how it is.............

Keep up the good work

hugs mumsie xxxxxx

Thanks ladies xxx

Well I think it's been worth all the aches and pains as I lost 3lbs tonight!

But then we took Daniel out for an Indian so that's probably all gone back on lol!!!

Never mind...back on it tomorrow ;) Sorry I've not got round to diaries tonight. Been up since six and just got into bed...feeling really tired now so hope to catch up tomorrow x Nite nite xxx

Ooh I do love Saturdays lol! Still in bed, listening to Treasure Quest on local radio and catching up on diaries :)
I did ok with food yesterday but was just too tired to write it down last night due to a very busy day. Work was quite busy so a straight run from 7.30 through to 17.30 with no breaks and then I had to take Andrew across town to my mums. His car is off the road at the moment so he's going to borrow hers until its fixed. So we didn't get home until nearly 8pm so there was no chance of going to the Saints match. Tbh I was quite relieved as I was so tired and just wanted to have my tea, get my PJ's on and curl up on the settee with a glass of wine and watch the match on telly. And that's exactly what I did! :)

Third time lucky! Blooming daft dog wants to sit on my knee while I'm trying to type on the iPad lol.

Oops, my fault Sarah, I should've said I adapted the recipe to make it SW friendly. So now we have TWO carrot and coriander soups from you lol!

Fry light
1 medium onion, finely chopped
1 garlic clove, crushed
500g roughly chopped carrots
1 litre veg stock
Pinch of freshly grated nutmeg
1 tablespoon chopped fresh coriander

Spray a saucepan with fry light, add the onions and garlic, then cover and cook gently for 10 mins without browning.

Add the carrots, stock and nutmeg, then cover and bring to the boil. Simmer gently for 10-15 mins until the veg is tender. You might need to remove the lid and reduce the stock a little.

Blend until smooth. Add the coriander and season to taste.

The recipe actually says to add cream at this point too. I think it's lovely as it is, but I imagine you could add some fat free yoghurt instead. Might try that at lunch time.

The muffins are really easy to make too Penny.

You really need a silicone muffin/cupcake tin. Just line it with thin lean ham, carefully crack a whole egg into each one, and then share out a hexA's worth of half fat grated cheese on the top. Pop in the oven (fan 180) for between 15-20 mins until the egg is cooked. So quick and easy to do! And of course if you don't want to use the cheese you don't have to :)

sound great going to try love soup at lunch time :)
