Exercise........How much for weight loss?

Hi Im just wondering how much exercise should we do for weight loss? I read 1 hour 5 times a week of cardio for weightloss with toning exercises too? Then 1 hour 3 times a week for maintainence?
Do you think it depends on the indivdual or does it have a science?

Apparently you have to burn 3500 calories to lose 1lb of fat. There is no set amount of time, only that 30 minutes 3-5 times a week is the recommendation for a healthy heart.
