Hi all, am a bit confused about the free food allowance on the SW website!!

When you go into the SW syn calculator it asks if the food has any free food allowance (free foods) - and so if it was like chicken breasts in sauce then chicken would be free food allowance and this is taken into account when calculating the syns.

Today i have come in with a Tesco finest chicken, chardonnay wine and tarragon soup that's not listed - would i put in chicken as free food allowance? If i do it says 4.5 syns and if i dont it says 8.5 syns.

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Thanks xXx

Please somebody correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think that shop bought soups like this count for any free allowance. They are notoriously high in Syns - it would be the 8.5

Pre-packed sandwiches etc. are similar too, no free food allowance.

Soup doesn't have any free food allowance that's right so yes it is 8.5 syns as it is 1 syn per 20 calories sorry

The following don't include a free food allowance:

    Alcoholic drinks
Biscuits, including cereal bars and savoury crackers
    Bread & crispbreads
    Breakfast cereals
Cakes & bakery items, e.g. carrot cake
    Crisps & snacks
Dressings & dips, e.g. salsa, salad dressing
Fruit - canned, dried and stewed
Pastry products (sweet & savoury), e.g. salmon en croute, apple pie
    Puddings & desserts
    Sandwich/deli fillers
    Sandwiches and wraps
Sauces, e.g. jars of tomato-based pasta sauce
Soft drinks, including yogurt drinks fruit/vegetable juice and fruit smoothies
    Soups, all varieties
    Sweets & chocolates

To work out anything else, the highest free food in the list of ingredients (i.e potato 45%) as the free food allowance, then fill in all the nutritional info.

Don't ask me which but a VERY limited range of soups can be a HEXB. I make my own but know some can be counted. Personally the texture of tinned soup makes me nauseous

Actually just checked. It's more variety than I thought. If you like soup it would be worth checking.
