Hello Im new and have been looking at your before and after pics and I am amazed!:)
Im on lighterlife, first day today and I hate the foodpacks they taste horrible :( does anyone know how to make them taste less powdery?
I am getting married in 8 months and need to lose 4 st 10.
I would love to hear your stories to spur me on!

Thank you so much,

Pixie x

Hello Pixie,

Have you tried using a blender/smoothie maker? That'll enable an even finer mix.

Additionally as you get used to the diet your tastebuds will change and you'll actually not me repulsed by your food packs.

All the best and good luck!

Hi Pixie and welcome,

Cha-ching is absolutely right about your taste buds adapting! And a blender or electric whisk does get rid of more lumps.
I add coffee to choc or vanilla favour shakes and have them hot but there is a thread on the site somewhere with recipes.
Stick with it and keep your goal in mind. IT DOES GET EASIER!

Good luck,

Jeanie x

Hey Pixie

Welcome to minimins..... this site is v helpful and v addictive!!

I make my shakes with a blender thingy.. makes them kinda creamy, i switched from Lighterlife to Cambridge though.. partly coz of cost.. partly coz it was better option for me and partly because CD has more flavours and i was struggling to like the LL ones... however I only have 3 shakes and 1 soup from Cambridge.. but i do love them... i don't like any of the bars from LL or CD!

U need to perservere it gets much easier.. the first few days/2 weeks are the worst and then it sort of clicks into place and becomes a habit... I look forward to my vanilla shake soooooo much lol!!!! Food becomes a distant memory!

Good luck

Hi

Hi, I started Lighterlife yesterday as well. I bought a gadget called an aerolatte which is a battery operated whisk and that seems to get most of the lumps out. You can get them from Whittards (the specialist tea shop) and they are quite discreet if you are mixing shakes at work or out and about. I haven't found the foodpacks too bad but by last night I felt completely exhausted - hopefully that will pass soon.

Welcome Pixie and Jena

Your posts reminded me of how I felt when I started LL. I've just checked and today is my 98th day on the programme so I've just about completed my 100 days!

Tesco do a hand held blender for less than a fiver - it's very effective. Also, have a look at all the recipe ideas for LL and CD on this site, there are lots of ideas to make things a bit more interesting.

I went through phases of feeling bored and fed up with the food packs but luckily, the support and advice of my fellow LLers who I met with every week plus the CBT helped me to get over these times. We talked about 'deferred gratification' (which is enduring discomfort/boredom for a period of time in order to achieve something important) and how to change the way we think or 'react' to situations in our life. The counselling has been brilliant for me, it has really given me tools to fight the 'demons' which cause me to have issues around food. So far I've lost over 4 stone, and I will continue with the programme after the 100 days, until I lose another 3 at least. I am hoping that this will be by February 2007.

Do you remember when you learned to drive or studied for exams. How stressful/boring/tiring were those experiences at times! But you did it, and how did you feel getting that precious piece of paper saying "YOU'VE PASSED". That's deferred gratification too.

Just keep thinking "it's not forever and it will truly change my life". I'm worth it! Yes, you are. GOOD LUCK!

Hi Pixie

Thank you for all your inspirational replies!:D
I actually woke up this morning for the first time in months not feeling tired!
I have tried the blender but they are sooo awful to me at the minute they are making me gag and I cant finish them in full..
I actually dread taking the next one, at the min I would rather not eat but I know I have to!
The water thing is driving me insane too:( I haven't got the biggest bladder at the best of times! I went for a wee 38 times yesterday!
Not been so often today but still have another LTR left to drink ah well only another 98 days!
Also is it normal to be cold all the time?

Pixie

Hiya Pixie - yes it's completely normal to be freezing like an icepop! It shows you're in ketosis and burning off the fat!

The only cure I know of is to have hot baths and to strap hot water bottles to yourself!!

But it is sooo worth it!!!!

Feeling cold is pretty normal Pixie ... I'm sitting here right now feeling like I've got frostbite in my fingers and toes!

The odd thing is, when I was bigger, I was always the one moaning to my hubby, 'I'm hot' - even when it was the middle of winter! (It was all that insulation that did it I suppose! :) )

What the others have said about changing taste buds is true. I found some of the CD packs quite 'artificial' tasting at first (someone said it was all the vitamins etc) but now they taste fine.

Stick with it and in a very short time, you'll look like a different person! (and you'll be a fairy-tale bride!)

Hi Pixie,

Welcome to this board! My diary is on here as well, so I'll keep checking in on you and see how you are going. It really helps to keep updating your diary for both the highs and lows, as you will see, mine is up and down like a yo yo!!

How much do you need to lose in time for your wedding? Mine is in January and so I've got to stick to this diet rigidly in order to get into my dress in time for the big day!!!

Anyway, look forward to seeing someone else on here as it's been very quiet, I'm looking forward to more wedding gossip!!!
:) :) :)

Not long for you now then!
I need to lose 4st 10lbs by July!
I keep putting off ordering my dress cos I dont want to order a big one...
What did you do re alterations or have you just bought a small dress?

Pixie x

Hi Pixie,

You will easily lose 4 stone on LL (or Cambridge as they are the same company, but its half the price because you dont get the group counselling)

I've actually just bought a size 14 which turned out to be more like a 12 (when I was about a 22), but then I got scared that I wont fit into it as I messed about so much and so I bought a back up plan, a 16. So at the moment, I really do not know which one I will fit into on the day. If your wedding is on a budget, you might want to consider ebay - you can buy some right bargains if you look hard enough. Dress A cost me £32, brand new - RRP £795 and Dress B cost me £50, brand new - RRP £599. They are ex shop samples I believe, but they are imaculate condition and gorgeous!! Obviously, if money is no object, then you'd probably prefer the security of a traditional bridal shop, but it's worth a look. Sorry, I'm an ebay bore, love it! I know what you mean about not ordering too early though, another bride on here told me that she'd been told by the shop that she couldn't order a small dress and now shes worrying that if she loses too much she wont fit into it.

eBay.co.uk: PRONUPTIA Paris "Princess" white Wedding dress sz14 (item 320052967375 end time 03-Dec-06 18:30:00 GMT)

This is the seller that I got my dress A from - her dresses were from a closed down Pronuptia Paris shop and so thats why shes selling them on ebay - she hasn't many listed at the moment, just this one, but she probably still has loads still to list.

My seamstress is just someone that I got out of the yellow pages. I took the dress to see how much it could be taken out on the bodice and so I've booked her up for two weeks before the wedding, so that I've got as much time to lose as much weight as possible. So it's a bit of a fingers crossed job I'm afraid!

Oooh lottie you are sooo organised!
Is that your dress? It looks beautiful if it is a bit like the one I have chosen...
I love ebay too theres so many bargains!
:D
I got weighed yesterday and have lost 7.1lbs so far after 3 days, so Im not expecting to lose anymore by my next weigh in now!
I have put a deposit on a dress which is costing my poor dad nearly 4k!
I know, I know but he insisted!
Its beautiful but the only thing is they want me to order it in a size 24! Im only a size 16 in regular clothes at the minute (14 on a good day!) so Im really not keen to do that but from the measurement charts they have I do fall between a size 22/24!
I nearly cried :(
Anyway Im supposed to go and get measured next Friday for the final time to see how much I have lost and then they will have to order it!
Im scared, I dunno whether to just order it big and get it taken in (but if I lose too much the crystal detailing will be out of line or order a smaller size and pray I dont fall off the wagon and that I get into it...if I dont tho I am buggered as I cant afford another one :( and I will have let my dad down by stupidly ordering a too small dress.
I have a week to decide and its keeping me awake at night.
On the one hand I know that buying a smaller dress would keep me on the straight and narrow but what if I was really good for the next 7/8 months and still didnt manage to get into it?
Im so stressed.

Hi Pixie (Love the name by the way!!)

OMG regarding the cost of your wedding dress, but to be fair, if you can afford it, I don't blame you - it's your big day. I would just be thinking thats half a car! The dress on my avatar is Dress A - I'm using it as my inspiration to keep going!! As we are only having a civil ceremony, I was just going to choose one of the nice brightly coloured ball gowns that are out at Xmas, but then I got carried away on ebay and couldn't resist a bargain - it doesn't look cheap though, so I guess thats the main thing!

I know what you mean about the dress dilema - if I was you, I would get your 100 day LL out of the way and then see where you are before you order. There are always going to be other beautiful dresses, if not more beautiful. Perhaps check the minimum order time? Whatever you do, don't let pushy shop assistants make you do something that you do not want to. If you 'almost cried' when they wanted you to order a 26, you dont want it to have a negative affect on your LL progress. The only thing I'd say about you ordering the smaller dress, would be what if you fell pregnant or something and it stopped you losing the weight (or is that just my personal fear)? You see you've got a lot more money at stake than I had, so I was able to take a gamble.

Well done on your 7lb loss so far, am v impressed - believe me, you will lose more weight this week! I lost on average a pound every day in the first two weeks and now it's about 1lb every two days.

Look forward to reading your progress...
