Hi I am new to this site, I stopped smoking last bonfire night and since then have managed to put a stone and a half on!!! I wasn't slim to start with...but...my weight had been stable a couple of pounds either way for over 20 years. I have decided to follow a healthy eating regime. My weakness is bread and crisps so they.... Along with the cigarettes are banned from my home. Fortunately I live alone (well with my 2 dogs) so this doesn't affect anyone else.
I am aiming to lose the weight slowly, I don't want to become a yo yo dieter and I don't really fancy following a specific diet plan. I feel that I just need to be sensible.
I can't do much in the way of exercise due to suffering from spinal disc disease, a prolapsed disc and bilateral stenosis in my neck! My Neurologist believes I may also have fibromyalgia.... Just waiting for results of tests I had taken before Christmas.
I am quite determined to shift this weight but thought that I would be able to gain and offer support through this site.

Welcome from one who knows exactly where you're coming from!

:)Hi - welcome to the site (that's if someone who joined 2 days ago is allowed to do that!) Having yo-yoed for years I think your approach is a really good idea - I believe that diets can work for some people but that many others just end up yo-yoing. I'm sure you'll get the support you're looking for here - like me you'll have seen the inspiring posts and offers of support.

My doctor advised me that to lose weight because I have high blood pressure and osteopenia (the precursor of osteoporosis) he said I eeded to reduce the number of calories I was eating and adopt a healthy eating regime. When I asked about exercise he said that 30 mins gentle exercise a day was advisable and would improve my muscle tone, blood pressure, wellbeing etc but it would be the change in eating habits which would contribute to the vast majority of the weight loss - I also checked that via the web and discovered that you had to burn 3500 calories to lose a pound - the article went on to say that 1 hour of aerobics generally burns of 400 calories whilst eating 1500 calories a day usually result in a loss of 2 lbs a week!

That was 2 years ago - I was 14 st 2 and got down to 10st 13 within 18 months following the Slimming World diet which I enjoyed - but since I went on a special holiday 2 months ago I have put on nearly 2 stone. I'm now trying to lose that cataclysmic gain by healthy eating, gentle exercise and support from this site. I'll look out for your posts and wish you luck on your weight loss.
