Help and advice on vlcd and surgery

Aaleigha

soon to be mother of the bride
I know I am not supposed to do a vlcd after surgery but what is your best advice
I am due knee replacement surgery on 3rd july in a private clinic
I go for all my pre assessment tests physio and an xray this friday

at present I am on a vlcd - slim and save
and would love to stay on the plan as long as possible

does anyone know the effects of ketosis before during and after surgery
could I do rose elliotts vegetarian low carb diet (20g a day) after surgery

I suppose what I really need to know is
does the body need calories vits and mins to heal or does it need the carbs

any advice or experience is welcome
I would like to have a possible plan in place before I go on Friday to discuss with the clinic

thanks H

I think your body does need more calories around surgery. You can always lose weight later. You need to put your health first. Take our doctor's advice on this.

I'm with Weasey on this. Don't stress your body when you are recuperating. Take a look at the paleo websites - you could eat good tasty real food, manage your portion sizes and then revert to S&S when you are healed.

Good luck

Thank you both very much indeed
I am off to the clinic for my pre op assessment checks today so will be taking a list of questions with me
I really do thank you for taking the time to answer

I hope it goes well and you have a good plan.

well I am back from the clinic
I have to refeed in the week prior to surgery at the latest
so I will do it slowly by introducing fruit 14 days before and then add more starchy carbs and will do it according to slim and save
then eat carefully but normally the week before

I had other questions but they dont concern diet

Do look up the refeed for S&S - fruit alone is not as good as protein. Fruit sugars alone could make you crave more sugar - so do follow their plan.

Good luck and I hope it goes well.
