Help! Porridge

Life is brass right now
Can anyone tell me how they manage to make their porridge following the instructions given on the packet without
A. having it overflow
B. getting that weird chewy consistency?

I really like porridge and it's my usual go to breakfast of choice even when not on plan, however, I just can't seem to get these ones done right!

Please share your secret and I will be eternally grateful :)
