Here's To A New Me!

Motivation is back and here I am ready and willing.

After all my effort dieting this year I have one stone off to show for it...I have given up counting how many times I have lost and regained the same one...it's depressing!

My new plan is to try and stick to 800 calories approximately, using a combination of shakes and food and see where it takes me. This plan is open to change and I am not going to beat myself up if I have a bad day or if I have to eat out. I'm sick of putting my life on hold - if I really want it, I'll have it and do some damage control the next day instead of throwing in the towel and feeling like a failure because I messed up. I have nothing to lose except weight...

Yesterday the 8th was my first day and I went over by 10 calories...today, so far is looking good.

Tuesday
Shake, skimmed milk for coffee, protein bar, water, almonds and for dinner...egg mayonnaise and baby leaf salad with celery.

Wednesday
Shake, skimmed milk for coffee, water and for dinner.... steak, kale, mushrooms, onion and gravy.

Hi Mini, here to follow and support.

Ohhh your steak, onion, mushroom and gravy looks lovely! I need to use up some mushrooms so may do similar tomorrow though sadly I've got no steak in so it may have to be with chicken!xx
Welcome:) Very glad of the company!

It was very tasty:D...the gravy helped with eating the kale...this is only the second time I have had kale and still not a fan...it was on special offer - ' two for one'...so I will be slowly munching my way through it.:drunk: I believe it is suppose to be good for you! Steak was also on special offer so I'll probably have the same again tomorrow evening.

Calories for dinner came to 422 and I'm still feeling full.

A friend of mine told me to drizzle olive oil on kale and crisp it in the oven then serve with sea salt. She claims its great but like you I'm not a huge fan of kale. Perhaps I'm bias as I used to have to buy it for my pet rabbits but was always kind of annoyed that I didn't like the taste so didn't ever fancy sharing it.

Hey, just checking in to say good luck! 800 cals is pretty intense i know i couldnt do that. Id definitely think of getting some whey in every day and maybe a multivit?

Ive never had kale either! whats it like? i am eating lots of peppers for my low carb veg

This study might interest you too :) apologies if everyone has seen it

I don't think I've ever had kale. Do you cook it similar to spinach or have it uncooked?xx
I gave the kale a good wash and then I scraped the leaves off either side of the stem and steamed them like I would for cabbage.

The last time I cooked kale was probably last year and all I remember is how tough and chewy the stems were so this time I removed them.

Here is a little demo I done for you so that you get the idea.

If I have time tomorrow I will give kale crisps a go as I'm curious how they would taste.

Thanks for the link...I could do with some shaping up.

Every day I take fish oil, vitamin C and magnesium and the shakes I take have protein and vitamins.

Kale does not really have a taste:rolleyes:...the texture is a strange feeling in the mouth...tough and rubbery...it takes time to chew it. It was definitely more edible this time with the stems removed. Not the sort of vegetable you would be diving in for second helpings. As I chewed, I kept saying to myself - this is healthy, this is good for me.:p

Thanks for the info on kale! i think ill stick to my current veg as i love them.
I tend to have loaaads of bell peppers, cauli, broccoli, sprouts, and occasionally peas.

I love all of the above as well!

After reading all the health benefits I think I won't give up on it just yet.:)

Good luck! I'm not a great fan of kale either but will chow down on it occasionally...if I must!

My worry with any type of intense exercise on a vlcd is gluconeogenesis and other nasty effects that might not be covered in one specific study. I tend to take calories up towards 1000 if I'm doing any intense exercise.

Very good luck mini...I do think the best diet for anyone is one that you have tweaked so it fits your life.

Dinner same as last night...

This time I steamed the kale until it wilted and then tossed it in a little olive oil and set aside in a warm bowl while I cooked the rest of my dinner. The kale was more tender and much nicer than last night.

I also made kale chip and they turned out really nice.

I prepared the kale as for steaming then dried it in kitchen towel and put it in a bowl with a little olive oil and gave the kale a massage to release the sugar within the leaves.

It took less than four minutes to cook... my oven was initially too hot at the start and had to turn it down. Out of the oven I sprinkled with sea salt.

First week over and 4lb off...being a slow loser this is very good weight loss for me.

Over the weekend my calories went over 800 easily:(...I do find it very difficult to stick to having only one or two skinny cappuccino on a Saturday. I seriously need to cut down on my coffee intake.
