Hi! New here and to losing weight

Just joined SW and joined here. I have put on a load of weight since spinal and hip problems. I have been written off by the NHS specialist I was under so hopefully SW will help me get things back into control even without any exercise. A tall order but I'm keeping an open mind

Good luck with your weight loss journey! :) As far as I understand SW, so long as you follow the plan and keep an eye on portion size, even without exercise, the weight should come off :)

Welcome! Don't be worried about lack of exercise, my mom did SW with no exercise whatsoever and lost a stone so you can too!

A bit more detail. I used to play a lot of squash, in my 20's I played 5+ times per week, cycled and ran. In my 30's I played in 2 squash teams at a decent standard. I was less than 12 stones in those days. In my mid 30's I had back surgery on L5-S1 disc and in my early 40's had more surgery on L4-L5. I was left with a lot of scarring on the spine after that and struggle with pain all the time now. At 44 my hip went and had a hip arthroscopy on trapping labrum. This didn't get rid of the horrible pain I get from walking. I have had multiple MRI's on hip, back and full pelvis. I have my last MRI on sacrum next month. If this doesn't show anything up the specialist says there is nothing left that can be done :-(

Since stopping playing my weight ballooned. It's so frustrating to hear how we should be doing more exercise as well as a healthy diet. I wish I could do something like just walking without the pain afterwards :-( . At work I'm fed up of all the jokes about my big belly.

This will be hard as I am single and in full term employment so when I get in I'm tired all I want to do is binge eat on pizzas. ready meals/ curries/lots of crisps etc and drink too much alcohol. I think my first step will be to cut the alcohol down and start cooking for myself. (and freezing the rest). Even if the SW plan doesn't work at least I will be introducing greens/veg/fruit into my diet which I don't currently eat. So that should have health perks.

I'm going to set my target at 28 lbs although I'm not going to put a time limit on it and see how things go. I feel miserable at the moment as I'm only on my second day and feel sooo hungry. I need to get to the supermarket sometime this week and get some proper food in. I have a chest freezer full of pizza and ready meals which I don't want to waste. Maybe I should start next month and get my head round the life style changes this will take or use them up as SYNS.... This isn't going to be easy

Don't worry Deks, everyone struggles and we're all here to support each other. Personally I would have myself one pizza/ready meal a week whilst following plan the rest of the time, then no wastage but no excessive eating either. Get to the shop and stock up on free foods- fruit, veg, Mug Shots, Muller Lights, Jacket Potatoes, Beans - all free, eat as much as you like! If you eat the right foods you won't be hungry and then you can save your syns for properly delicious treats.

Also I completely understand the desire to eat things when you're tired that aren't so good for you because they're quick, easy and convenient - I used to work shifts and my second home was McDonalds! But what you need to get in the habit of doing when you're not busy is cooking fresh meals like chilli or spag bol etc and freezing them so that all you have to do when you're tired is microwave it - then ping healthy ready meal!
