Hi There... New Chap... Looking For Help....

Hey Chris! I started at 23 stone 4lbs, its **** being this big isnt it!!!!! :D it made me laugh when you said about not going to the zoo about being weighed lol!! I'm doing the cambridge diet, just started 5 weeks ago and nearly lost 2 stone!!! you should look into it, the diet is amazinggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg :D

Hi Chris
I'm also a SlimFaster. If you like the diet and feel like it is something you could manage, why don't you have a go? I'm sure you will get some great losses. Have a look at some of our SlimFast threads. There is plenty of advice and support on there.

Plus you can eat fruit and lots of it. Just make sure you count the calories. I never feel hungry or deprived of nice food and I get nice steady losses each week.

Good luck with whatever you decide. You can always change your mind and start a new diet if thats what you feel is best for you. Some people do Slimfast before doing CD or similar to get used to having shakes.

Hi Chris

If you liked Slim Fast perhaps you would like Lighter Life too.

Good luck with whichever route you decide to take

i've booked myself an appointment with my doctor on wednesday... going to go in.. get weighed and have a chat about options... as i haven't fully decided what diet to go on but wanting to start cutting down i stuck to three meals today...

2 weetabix with sliced banana
2 thin slices of malt loaf plain
2 weetabix with sliced banana

we dont have much in the house that's healthy hence having that twice lol. hopefully get a proper diet sorted by wednesday :D

Just wanted to wish you lots of luck Chris. Any of the diets will work if you can stick to them, so take your time reading through the site and you'll get a greater understanding of what's available, and your GP will certainly want to help (I hope) and if worth their salt will be full of info and advice.

Motivation is the key and everyone here is so lovely and supportive that you'll be able to keep the motivation up long enough to see the diet through I hope.

hey folks... just a bit of an update, been to the doctors today... not an amazing amount of help though i must admit.... he's referred me to something called Why Weight? Plus which is some sort of dieting programme where i go in and get weighed weekly and they sort a diet out for me. Only thing is he said i should look to lose 2-3lbs a week.... but i'd like to be getting rid of more than that... i've got to wait a week before ringing the why weight? plus folk to organise going up... i have to wait a week due to them needing to get all my paperwork through first which is a bummer lol. So for a week i'm stuck to my own devices on food... which is a killer for me i must admit.

i also found out my exact weight is 165kgs which is just shy of 26 stone... ouch lol.

Hi Chris,

I have just looked it up as I have not heard of it before and it looks like a very good programme.

Why Weight

You will be offered a variety of options including:
q Practical workshops with optional private weigh ins
q Telephone/email support
q Monthly motivating newsletter
q Practical cooking skills sessions for weight loss.
q Exercise classes JUST for very big people.
q Walking groups and exclusive swim sessions
q Specialist activities and information for other needs – e.g. for ethnic minorities and those with disabilities.

Your doctor has your best interest at heart and it looks like you will learn a lot from this programme which will help to keep the weight off long term....which is the hard part of the weight loss journey.

A weight loss of 2 to 3lb a weeks is a nice steady weight loss.

You could be looking at a loss of between seven and half stone to eleven stone in a year.

Combined with your love of walking you could lose more.

I know when you have set your sights on starting right away and it seems very long to have to wait before starting you are probably feeling a little down about it.:hug99:

In the mean time you could keep yourself busy by writing down lists of why you want to lose weight....how you see yourself in five years time and set yourself mini goals and what non food treats you will reward yourself with as each mini goal is achieved.

Also take body measurements and some photos now so that you can compare yourself as the weight comes off.

Chris, you are luckier than me. When I went to see my GP she just sighed and said that I was too pretty to be so fat! Then to top it all, she gave me an exercise programme, told me to buy some trainers and come back in a month. I know she was trying to help, and that it probably works for some people but it didn't work for me.

The exercise programme was basically a jogging rota!!! and where I live there are no pavements and mostly tiny little lanes to run around, not really my idea of safe, even if I could jog.

It sounds as though your GP is being very sensible and very helpful, even if all they did was refer you to someone else, that someone else is your key to cracking your weight issues in a safe way. I bet you will really see the weight come off once you get on it.

Make sure that you keep us informed of your progress, it's always good to know about other methods of weight loss.

Well done on taking these first steps, it's not easy to do what you have done, you should be very proud of yourself.

Hi Chris

I know it's frustrating to have to wait for a week before starting but you are so lucky to have that facility within your PCT. It's also quite demoralising when the GP says '2-3 lbs per week is a good weight loss' as it feels like it will take FOREVER to lose the weight at that rate. Just remember, you will probably lose a lot faster than that to start with.

If you lived closer I'd offer to join you when you go walking. I hate walking alone but do really like walking (not hiking)

Keep us posted (excuse the pun) & I'm sure you'll be half the size in no time!

Chris , is that what you would like to do ( why weight plus ) cos you must do whats best for you !

well from the explanation about why weight that mini posted up, if that is the pla i'll be going for i do really like the sound of it.... i love swimming but my paranoia and low self confidence stop me... i'll be holding out for this and i'll get some pics done of me tomorrow for a mini portfolio :D

chris , good luck with that , swimming is good , how about joining a gym where theres a swimming pool , and steam room after be great for you ! look into whats in and around you

Hi Chris. Been offline for a few days, but have been really interested to see how you've been getting on when I logged on today.
Well done for going to your doctors, and getting some positive help. When I spoke to my doctor he just sighed and said, 'hmmm'!
Why Weight sounds really interesting, and like they could give some good tips for changing your lifestyle and helping to keep the weight off that you'll loose.
Best of luck with it and do let us know how you get on!

I'm going to do the smoothie and exercise diet. A smoothie for breakfast, one for lunch and a healthy dinner. I'm going to run for half an hour each morning. Just found out that I weigh 20st! So horrified I'm going to lose 10st in 1 yr - nothing can stop me. Why don't you join me? xxx

Hey everyone my name's Chris, i'm 23 and weigh about 26 to 27 stone (scales at home don't read acurate weight and i'm not going to the zoo lol) anyway i think being my weight at my age is really bad and i'm disgusted at myself for letting myself get like this... my confidence has hit rock bottom recently and i find myself getting all upset while i'm sat alone, i always find myself putting on a front for other people and mocking my weight to people as i'm paranoid that if i don't do it, they will.... But my problem is, no matter what i try to do... i can't seem to shift this weight. I found this site by searching weight loss forums on google... i'm just hoping maybe someone here might be able to help me in my fight... i want to get down to about 15st as i'm a big built lad structual wise whether overweight or not... but i just don't know what is the best diet for me.

I try to cut down my food, try to eat better... but nothing seems to work for me.

i hope i havent bored you all with this post and hope to talk to you all very soon :)

regards

Chris

Hi Chris

Welcome to the site sweetie.

Hi Chris
Welcome to the site, ive just joined 2 weeks ago and its fantastic support for me. I was 18 stone and stared Slimming World, ive so far lost 5 pound and Im not stopping as Im unhappy with my size and I dont wanna be a big lump anymore.

Like most people on here Ive tried loads of diets. Ive done atkins, weight watchers, slim fast, reductil, xenical ...... I dont think it really mattered which one I did cause I didnt have my heart in it. I really like SW and cant recommend it enough.

When I got married at 18 I was 12 stone and thought I was massive, god id give anything to be 12 stone again! But the weight just creeps on and next thing I knew I was 20 stone by the time I wised up and left my husband. Lost a couple of stone but then give up. Now I am really determined to get my old self back, in the words of Justin im bringing sexy back lol

Im sure what ever diet you choose to follow your gonna get to your goal, we are all in it together. Keep us informed!

Love Vicky xxx
