Hi to all. I am stuck.

Hi to all members :)

I have started slimming world last week and completing my first week. I ahve done SW in the past before and lost with it. I do not have much to loose but this morning I had a sneak weigh in and I have stayed exactly the same. I am so disspointed. I have not cheated, kept my syns under 10 a day and drank plenty of water.

I keep mainly to red days as I struggle eating heavy carbs. I moved the states a year ago and put on plenty of pounds and now its time to shift them again. I am following the plan from home as there are no groups here but I have done it all long enought to know the majority of things.

I am just disappointed that I have not lost anything and now feel like throwing in the towel altogether.

Sneak weigh ins won't keep you on track - stick to a weekly weigh in ;)

am sure the losses will come

I am just really disappointed. I wanted a loss for my first week and nada. At this point you get to the mind thinking of whats the point.

It will come, I was pretty slow to get going. Set a day for weigh in and stick to it, they always say you pile on a bit more weight over the weekend then pull it back during the weekdays...

I have lost really slowly but have only just figured out how it really works - it takes time, and if you dont have a lot to lose then it will be harder to get off...

Am I right in thinking, if you have less to lose ( under 30lbs) I should be on lower syns than the 10-15 - maybe 5-10?

Not quite clear - are you saying that you weighed at home and haven't been back to your SW class yet? Because if that is the case, you don't actually know whether you have lost anything or not.

I did slimming world for a year when I lived in the UK, i then moved to the states and found it really hard to follow as the food is different and had no idea about what syns were in what foods here. So i used to do class all the time but when I moved I could no longer attend.

So I changed to Atkins ( like I said, when I moved here i had big issues with carb tolerance). I lost wieght on Atkins but found it really restrictive. So here I am 6 months later with all my original weight gained. I loved SW because it is easy to stick to unlike Atkins. After doing all my research and looking at slimming world USA i have decided to give it a go here but do not have access to classes as only classes available are in Texas. I live in New York. So I am tackling it on my lonesome!

They are rolling out an online plan for people out of the UK - Slimming World - together we do amazing things

Might be a bit more relevant - and hopefully a group opening in your area soon!

As for the syns, I'm not sure as I have a lot more to lose than you. I struggle a bit with it too as I am vegan and a lot (not all) of the vegan specific products are not in the book/internet, so have to input them manually which is a chore! But I am finally getting my head round it!

I imagine its harder to follow in the USA as they are way behind when it comes to food regulation and health promotion compared to the UK. When I went there everything was so fatty and gross, fresh food was packaged and doused in crap and every portion was HUGE! Things are changing though - and good luck to em - I think slimming world will go down a treat in the USA...is there anything similar out there, ie group based weight loss?

Seems there are only two groups in Texas at the min - but send them an email they might have more info, and be able to tell you of any progress in your state.

not necessarily, if I were you, I'd have the 15 a day. you may not be eating enough calories. Red days tend to be lower calorie than green anyway, plus if you are having fewer than 10 syns per day your body may actually be in starvation mode and holding onto weight rather than losing it. relax a bit, use your syns (everyone gets 10-15, some get more if they are heavier when they start) and make sure you are eating and drinking enough.

Thanks to all. I guess I have to adjust to eating differently here. I just learnt yesterday that the fat free greek yogurts I was eating (max 1 a day) are in fact 2.5 syns. Just have to keep at it and I want to stay on this but for me to stay on SW and make it a lifelong change, I will need to see some pounds dropping off. I am upping the water intake and making sure i consume all my HEB & HEA's. And sit and wait. I am also exercising - so if it doesnt work then I dont know what I did wrong! I really liked atkins but just found it too restrictive over a period of time and i tried to restart atkins but got fed up super quickly. At least with SW you can have HEB's ;)

Will do - so for example today:

Breakfast - Greek Fat Free Yogurt & Banana - 2.5syns ( as stated above with yogurt syns)
Mid Morning Snack - Celery with fat fat cream cheese (4ozs is HEA here accoring to SWUSA)
Lunch - Left over roasted pork loin (all fat off) and green beans & a dash of bisto gravy ( my sister sends me british supplies!!)
Afternoon Snack - 4 dark rye ryvita with marmite (HEB)
Dinner - Home made vege soup with arnold sandwich thin ( HEB) and some cheese (HEA).

I am currently on 60 ounces of water ( its 3.30pm here) and off to the gym in a little bit.

How do I start a food diary - just a nnew thread under that topic in the other forum?

just go on slimming world then food diaries then start a thread on there... because your exercising aswell you might not be eating enough, I have a big breakfast and big bowls of pasta and lose... maybe you mix your days a bit with extra easy and green :)

Yes I try and mix it u a little and weekends I tend to do green days as its easier and more fulfilling when im home you know. So on saturday I had a green day:

Breakfast : vege 3 egg omelette with 1 piece of (HEB) toast.
Lunch: slimming world chips with beans -slice of cheese (HEA).
Snack - Yogurt
Dinner - Sushi -kept it all vegetable and had some sashimi fish for my other HEB.
Had one glass of white wine ( 7 syns I counted for and that still leaves me some to play with for the above sushi in case).

Who knows. All I can do is keep at it and keep on drinking some more water.
