how do I ensure it stays off

ok so I am about to start S&S and this is going to be the 1st time Ive lost weight - I want it to be the last!

so what can I do to make sure its the last? Im hoping to drop below target and then obviously I realise I'll gain a bit when I start eating again

Just don't want to get stuck in a cycle of losing and regaining this 3 stone!

You've got a few options here - first of all I'd have a read around the refeeding and maintenance subforum here;
Slim and Save - Refeeding & Maintenance which will give you an idea of what some others are doing.

Long term you may want to do another diet plan and follow that for maintenance (e.g., low carb, slimming world, weight watchers) I'm planning in doing JUDDD to lose the last bit of weight and maintain as it's the only plan I can really see myself sticking to - just find one that's right for you.

Also weigh regularly - this is a major one for me because I know when I've gained weight before it's only got so bad because I have avoided scales at all costs and then before I know it 3+ stone is back on. If you're weighing regularly (i.e. once a day, week, month -whatever works for you) it's less likely to get to this stage.

Best of luck with S&S and maintenance!

I think the main thing is to change your relationship with food. Look at why you eat, when you eat, your emotions when you eat. Perhaps read some books on these things. I have a disfunctional relationship with food and I am addressing it. If I didn't address it the weight would go back on.

For me it was the realisation that I can't eat 2000 calories per day and maintain my weight. My maintenance allowance is closer to 1600 so I had to completely reassess my eating habits and start with a clean sheet compared to my pre diet eating pattern. I've made substantial changes that include cutting out alcohol except for holidays and special occasions (a big thing for me as I was a big drinker previously), and cut down on calories and carbs during the week so that I have a bit of slack at weekends to have a few treats. Seems to be working so far. One thing is for sure, without the reassessment I'd be heading back to fatville. It's all about devising a maintenance plan for you that suits your lifestyle and you can stick to. Don't try to do something that you'll never be able to maintain long term, but you will need to make changes for sure. There is no going back to 'normal' because old 'normal' was what made us fat to start with. New normal is a new start for all of us.

I'm going on to Slimming World after this.

I think you really need a lifestyle change to keep any weight off from any diet!

If you have issues with food then you'll have to battle them & sort it out before you can be healthy. :)
