How do you work out syn values?

Hi everyone.... I'm on my second week of SW and all is going great. Group is really friendly and supportive. I just wondered if there was a formula to work out syn values as I don't always have easy access to my computer to log onto SW online.

there is no formula to work out foods if an item has a free food allowance, only way to know for sure is to use the syn calculator or look at the syns list.

However if a food has NO free food allowance, i.e. crisps, chocolate, cakes, sauces, etc then you can use the 1 syn = 20 calories to work it out.
