how to gain control on emotional eating

    hi all ive done so well got my stone award today in 4 weeks and won slimmer of the week so was in a really good mood till afternoon when i saw my mum and she was being just generally not very nice about my home and i got upset and over ate this evening as a result and now i feel really sick as ive eaten a ton of chocolate. any tips on not letting your self eat junk when upset its got a kind of control over me like a spell i need to break. i just really want to not feel i have to binge in order to deal with my emotions :-(

    Sorry to hear your mum put your home down. I think most people over eat when they're feeling up/down at some point so try not to beat yourself up about it. Sorry I can't be more help. Big hugs x

    My tip is to replace the eating with another activity. Just trying to stop leaves a gap where there used to be something you did in that emotional crisis and now there is nothing you can do but think about it. Find a replacement activity - perhaps writing out your frustration and disappointment into a dairy?

    I agree, I'm a big comfort eater and now I'm trying to swap it for something else! I try to go for a walk, even if its just round the block but normally by the time I'm back I feel a lot better, or I'll have a mullerlight one with choc in ;-) Good luck, its tough but we gotta do this for ourselves as no-one else can do it for us!

    I comfort eat a lot and I'm sorry your mum upset you, family have way too much power over our emotions :(
    im trying to overcome this as well. I am trying to have a big healthy meal as soon as I get the urge or pull towards comfort eating. Or I try to sleep it off, promising myself that if I don't binge now, I can have a treat tomorrow. It normally works as well and I just end up thinking twice about overeating and then don't. I hope you can find a way of stopping it, think of another way to cheer yourself up or take your mind off it. Maybe try to imagine how much more upset you will be by putting weight you have lost back on?
