Its too intimidating.

    Hi, Sorry I have been lurking for a while and finally joined last week, I hope its ok to post a thread when I am so new.

    I have been yo-yoing weight wise for years now and have been loosing and gaining the same stone for a few years now. Currently I have 3 stones to loose and well ok this is not meant to sound too whiny but - I am finding it too intimidating. I intended to start today but when I weighed in this morning the weight seemed too much, I feel like I have been doing this forever and getting no where?? I know I am an adult and my weight is the result of my own actions, I just don't know where to find motivation from any more.

    Any one any ideas as I am drawing a blank? :confused:

    Why not take a small decision instead of a big one? Instead of making this 3 stone a huge hill to climb, decide that this week you are going to just drop one or two bad habits. You are also going to develop one or two good ones. For instance, no biscuits with your tea and a piece of fruit mid after noon and maybe an evening walk at least 3 times this week. Simple changes you can stick to will help. Ok the weight will take it's time to come off but it didn't appear overnight, did it?

    I agree with Barb, it probably didn't all come on overnight, unless you are really unlucky!

    I've yo yoed too, and currently am 2-3 stone over where I want to be. It's taken me about 6 months of bad lifestyle choices to put on 2 stone, so I have accepted that it will take at least 6 months of good lifestyle choices to put it right!

    What i am doing is taking each day at a time and telling myself 'Today, I will do x exercise and not binge'. It's not scary to not do anything for one day. But the days add up! And the lbs slide down! Another thing I have stopped doing is weighing myself. I took some measurements the other day, which were most disheartening, but they are somewhere safe, ready for me to revisit in a months time. Then I'll know if what I am doing is acheiving anything else, apart from making me feel good, which it definitely is!

    Chin up, and keep taking those baby steps!

    Thanks Barb! I've been v busy, just sneaking on at work! I've got a 10K coming up, and am also upping my yoga practice and throwing in some weight training at the same time (like I needed some more to do!).

    Was struggling a bit with booze related lard binges so am off the devil grape juice on the whole at the moment.....

    hi crimson. all i have to add is that maybe you shouldn't look at it as having three stone to lose. i currently have four. a couple of months ago i had five. i have gained and lost the same stone about three or four times now and am sick to death of it. but i can't think of it like that. i can't think that i have four stone to lose. i think 'i have half a stone to lose by the beginning of july so my boobs fit into my bridesmaid dress' and it doesn't seem quite so daunting losing half a stone. i mean, it's only half a stone, how hard can it be? and one day at a time is important. if you make it through this day then you are one step closer, then you make it through this day and you are two steps closer. occasionally there may be a stumble or a step back but we'll get there.

    set small challenges. join one of our june challenge threads. there is one in WeMITTs and there are a couple more dotted about depending what weight loss programme you want to use.

    Which one do you want to use crimson? have you worked up a plan of action?

    Hi guys thank you for your replies. I know 3 stone really isn't that much too loose at one point I was 6 -7 stone over weight it the yo-yoing that is too much. I think part of the problem is I have tried a lot of different diets:sigh: and now I am disheartened with dieting!

    But I read these replies yesterday and have been doing a lot of thinking and I am hoping something clicks soon as my dad is getting married in 3 months so I want to loose some weight by then. I think it comes down to a fear of failure if that makes sense because I loose weight then gain it back through comfort eating mmm maybe I should take up smoking again :p.

    Theres your first goal then! How about trying for losing 14lbs in 3 months- thats not unachievable? I find setting smaller goals really helps me- e.g my firast mini-goal was to lose my 2nd baby weight (she's 10mths)- I've done that- and now I've 6lbs to go to lose my eldests 'baby' weight, then I have 12lbs to go to my GOAL weight. If you break it down it won't seem so bad. I find I yo-yo'ed when I was really good for a few weeks (i.e. cutting out EVERYTHING nice! LOL!) but I'd buckle & regain the weight (& more) straight away. In January I decided I was going to get healthy- I owe it to my two girls to not be the 'fat' mum at the school gates! LOL! SO I cut out processed foods & ate as fresh as I could, and I started eating off my 3yr old's plate so I could get a grip on portion sizes. If you have smaller goals and achieve them then you'll avoid that sense of failure?
    PS- PLEASE don't start smoking again! spend the money on a treat when you hit the first 1/2 stone!

    Hi Crimson,

    Definitely a small goal hun, I'm aiming for 2 weeks 100%( even though I ate slightly extra today of what I'm allowed by 30gms). On the plus I've done nearly 3 days fabulously and feeling the benefits.

    I also for the past 2 weeks have been easing myself into my diet by eating the foods but not the exact weights, just to get into the swing of things.

    I also dont use the scales, I use a tape measure the numbers changes more and it's nice to see where your shrinking. You can do you head in with the scales and let it determine your day if it's not the number you wanted to see.

    i totally agree with everyone here. bit by bit is far easier to focus on. ive had a band fitted to help me along but besides that, instead of thinking of the 9 stones i want to lose, im aiming to get to size 20 (currently 22-24). then i will aim for size 18...size 16 etc.

    Hi, thanks all your are so sweet. I have broken it down to 6 x half stones and given myself till my birthday next year to reach goal.
    Today I had breakfast and brought a healthy lunch and fruit snacks - one day at a time I guess! ( I also avoided the temptation of buying snacks in the shop). :D

    Thanks abz, I still need a plan but for now I am going for healthy eating see how that goes for a week and maybe start counting cals if I don't loose:eek:.

    the healthy eating part is a massive step. one i myself need to take a bit more seriously. i'm just trying to eat like a 'normal' person at the moment. well, on the up days of juddd in any case. the down days no 'normal' person would put themselves through!!
