Melon

I bought 2 melons from Asda, I've had them a week so thought they be ripe. It was horrible not juicy or anything. I usually love melon.

Is there a way to get it to ripen as I have the other one still. I hate wasting food but having problems with melon not being ripe enough & then in a few days going rotten.

is this just Asda melons or was I unlucky?

How have your stored it ?

I think that they are meant to be kept out of fridge.

I would take them back!

I've just got them in my fruit bowl on the worktop in the kitchen.

ring them up and tell them, have you still got your receipt ?

I always take things back to Asda if im not happy with them, and they are quite good.

open it up and see what its like, if its the same take it back

I think your just unlucky,

Put them on the side with a fruit bowl containing bananas, get them touching if possible. Bananas ripen any fruit

pop in in a paper bag add a ripe banana if you have 1 scrunch up the top and leave at room temp for a day or 2 unil you can smell the melony smell when sniffing the bottom of the melon

When you buy your melons slap it and if it makes a hollow sound chances are it is ready to eat.

During our melon season they get so cheap I buy a dozen or so and keep them under the bed in the spare room. I suppose that does the opposite to ripening.

what sort of melon was it ? I bought 2 cantaloupes from tescos a few days ago and opened one last night and it was the same i have put the other one with my bananas hoping it improves

After losing all this weight I'd give anything for firm melons - but thats a whole different story

my melons have been like this for a few weeks from asda,otherfruits too not being so nice, so ive started going to my fruit shop fruit is soooooo much fresher nicer n juicer, xxx

So true! The fruit from my local greengrocers is lovely fresh and juicy.
and whatever is in season can be so much cheaper sometimes.
