Mission Possible

Well what an exciting evening for me! I had my first proper food for the first time in 5 weeks! A grilled chicken breast, chopped and mixed with balsamic vinegar, and a salad of mushrooms, red onion, peppers, tomatoes, cucumber and lettuce. I got full quite quickly, but as you can see I had some help with the scraps! This was then washed down with my first cup of tea with milk, which I was so excited about but was pretty disappointed with. It just didn't taste right even though I made it as I usually do, but maybe my taste buds need time to readjust.

Ok, well here goes nothing. After a lot of to-ing and fro-ing I have decided to post my hideous underwear pics. (Do not look too soon after eating :)) I hope the quality is ok, and please bear in mind that I still have more weight to lose. These photos just represent my journey to a healthy BMI. Rushing out to kickboxing now, but might post these later on, in the main before and after pictures forum, what do you think?

Thanks so much you two! I can see a difference too but still a far way from being happy with my body. Maybe I never will be but I'd like to get close ;)

Thank you so much RawrGirl! Everything you have said makes perfect sense to me. I had never thought about the fact that by eating WW, I would essentially be upping my calories as opposed to lowering them. Duh! So simple when I think about it!

The refeed plan is basically 2 shakes and a high protein meal the first day (which I did today!), then a shake and 2 meals for the rest of the week, but gradually introducing carbs in small portions, so that the body isn't shocked into storing a load of water! I am going to follow this refeed week, and weigh-in next Monday at the pharmacist. After that, I'm not sure what to do now, dilemma!! I really like the idea of Low GL, which is essentially low-carb as opposed to no-carb and worked for me before. It has an 80/20 rule which means sticking to it 80% of the time but allowing the occasional treat. It means avoiding refined, sugary foods and allowing a small portion of carbs with each protein and veg based meal. It also recommends 3 meals and 2 snacks a day to avoid blood sugar dips. Sounds doable doesn't it?! Eeek, I hope so. I really am worried about reintroducing food.

I suppose I was rejoining weight watchers more as a weigh-in routine to guilt me out of regaining. Is that worth EUR10 a week though? The pharmacy have said I can continue to call to them as long as I want, and they have all my weight records on their computer system anyway. And it's free. Hmm, maybe i'll continue with them and if I feel myself slipping, I can rejoin WW. What do you think?!

Aaagh, TFR was the EASY part :(

Actually, RawrGirl thinks the 80/20 plan sounds pretty good. She never thought about it that way, but that is pretty much how she's been doing her VLCD. 5.6 days = 80%, and 1.4 days = 20%. Sunday thru Friday afternoon is RawrGirl's 80%, and Friday evening and all day Saturday is her 20%.

According to the one-year 15% less rule, when you are at your "ultimate" goal weight, you should be eating 1190 calories per day 80% of the time (plus more when you add in the exercise, so on kickboxing or Shred days, probably like 1500), and then one full day plus one extra meal, you can eat whatever you want (your 20%).

Since you are currently trying to lose just a tad more, RawrGirl would think that sticking to 1190 even on days you exercise should do the trick (until you reach goal). Then, after the first year, you should be able to eat 1390 calories a day (if 139 pounds) without exercise and still maintain, and 1700 on exercise days.

Her only other advice is to put a cap on your 20%. RawrGirl plans on doing this herself on maintenance, as she realized she tends to eat over 4000 calories in one day, esp if she goes to a particular restaurant on date night with Prince Charming.

[Example: RawrGirl googled that restaurant's nutrition and realized she usually consumes 2700+ calories there (dinner and dessert). Being the weekend, she'd probably already consumed close to 1000 (500 for breakfast and 500 for lunch, sometimes more), bringing her up to 3700. She would then come home and consume another 500+ calories in vodka while cuddling and watching a movie with Prince Charming, for a total of 4200.

So she choose the cap of 2500 calories for maintenance (and her once-a-month treat night during her diet).

At all other restaurants she can order what she usually does and still stick to her cap of 2500 as long as she limits the amount of buttered bread she consumes (and if she keeps breakfast and lunch to a combined total of 300). But at this particular one, she had to alter what she would order OR skip a regular dessert and have her low-sugar chocolate when she gets home.

If it were a rare occurrence (2x a year), it probably wouldn't matter that much, but as she and Prince Charming usually go there (or some where else or get takeaway, etc.) once a weekend when RawrGirl is not on a diet, she felt it wise to cap her weekends/20%.]

Boy, RawrGirl feels long-winded today, lol. Sorry about that! But she is glad to know that her obsessive charting, graphing, diet books notes, and online research is coming to good use by helping her friends! :p

As for your pictures:

Absolutely amazing! Well done!!!

It's so motivating to be able to really see the changes, isn't it!

Go Squishy!!!

Day 36-Very quick post as I'm heading out with my mum for the day (she had a small op last week and can't drive so I'm helping to ease her cabin fever!)

I am delighted- I stepped on the scales this morning, very worried about what I would see given that I ate FOOD yesterday. Well whaddya know - I was down another pound. This means I reached my pharmacy target of 10st10lb (10st9.4lb actually) and so I think I stopped TFR at just the right time. I have updated my signature below and boy did that feel good.

It doesn't make me any less nervous about eating again, but I think for someone like me to retain my weight loss, I will always have to be on edge. If I get cocky, I'll just put it all back on. But if being vigilant means keeping a slimmer figure, I think it's worth it.

I'll be back later. Looking forward to having a cup of tea while I'm out, that ISN'T bloody peppermint!!

Oh and by the way, had my first maintenance shake for breakfast. Orange Creme flavour and so incredibly sweet that I gagged. I'll put up with them though, because I know I have a lunch and dinner to look forward to! X

Thanks so much RawrGirl! Who needs a crappy WW leader when I have you as my personal weight loss counsellor?! My plan for the 80/20 rule is more that I have the "20" for the occasional meal out (which happens every few months, if I'm very lucky) or for a Saturday evening treat. But most definitely it will be capped. I really need discipline to maintain my loss and hopefully lose more.

Thanks about the photos. They are not pretty to look at but I suppose that helps me to realise how much work I still need to do if I want to wear a bikini next summer. I really should post some o myself with clothes on but alas, will blur my face out as I'm so ashamed of my weight a one of my biggest fears is that somebody I know would stumble across my photos. X

Lol...RawrGirl just hopes it's not the blind leading the blind. She's never reached her goal, let alone maintained it! But she has done ALOT of research (and was once certified as a Weight Management Consultant through the American Counsel of Exercise).

Would you be willing to post a pic of just your face so we can you see? RawrGirl would love to put a face to her friend, Squishy.

RawrGirl is so amazed and impressed by your progress...that in such a short time you made every single one of your goals! That is so awesome! You will soon be sporting a bikini!

Oh go on then! I'll find one that I don't mind too much. (I've probably deleted any that I don't like anyway!) x

Ok, just for RawrGirl (in a non creepy way!!) here are some pics of me. The black and white one is from a friend's wedding, 12 weeks after having my daughter. The colour one is me and my little lady at her birthday party in July. I was probably around 166lb here but went on holiday shortly after and went up to 173lb.

Day 37 of my weight loss journey (how cheesy does that sound?! Mmm, cheese...)

Anyway! Had 2, yes 2 meals yesterday. Lunch was a tuna salad, and for dinner another chicken salad. I find that I feel full quite quickly when eating, but I do get hungry later. I just fill up on water or tea instead if succumbing to snacking. My plan is to not eat after dinner time.

I felt quite bloated going to bed but I think this must've been all the water, because when I stepped on the scales this morning I was down another pound?! In delighted but confused. Refeeding seems to be almost going TOO well and I've lost 2 pounds in 2 days. More than ever happened on TFR. Maybe it's just luck, I'm sure I'll stay the same for at least a few days now, if not until weigh-in in Monday evening.

Tonight I am meant to introduce some potato into my meal. I have bought some new potatoes and will steam them and add to my salad. I'm not a huge potato fan (unless it's chips or crisps, hee hee!) but I know it's important to reintroduce starchy carbs and do so gently to avoid shocking my starved body. As I am planning to follow a low GL diet, there needs to be a small amount of carbs in each meal anyway.

The good news is, I have asked my mum to babysit on Friday 19th so Mr McFatterson and I can go on a DATE! We are fortunate to have an excellent shopping centre nearby so we are going to go for a casual dinner, then to the cinema together for the first time since I was in labour in July 2011 (yes I went to the cinema in labour!) In fact, we are going to go to the same restaurant I was in labour in too! It's called Nando's and they specialise in amazing Portuguese chicken. It's relatively healthy and we never have dessert there. Although I may treat myself to one scoop of ice cream at the cinema afterwards. Ok, I'm getting hungry and excited here and I still have 9 days to go...!

Speaking of Mr. McFatterson, he has lost 7lb since I started Lipotrim and he cut out all the crap food. He hasn't had any crisps or Coke (his favs) and has only had the occasional chocolate biscuit, usually when visiting my parents' house!

I am off to a friend's house today for a play date with our daughters (there's a month between them) and my friend has made soup for lunch. Once it's not too carby, I should be fine to eat it. I have told her I'm recovering from a stomach bug but I think soup and a cup of tea will be fine. She is dieting anyway so there won't be any temptations. If I think there are carbs in the soup, I'll skip my potatoes tonight. I haven't seen my friend in 2 months so maybe she'll notice a difference in me. Here's hoping!

Wow, this ended up a very long post, well done to anyone who made it through! X

It's great! You should go. Very WW friendly too- I googled the propoints. I don't like spicy food so I have my chicken plain and it still tastes amazing.

Thanks! Hope you have a good day too. X

Haha...no worries about it being a long post; RawrGirl is the queen of that.

Congrats on another pound down. :party0011:

Your date sounds wonderful! 9 days away, huh? Have you picked out what you are going to wear?

I gotta run to skating practice, but I will check back in later, though I have a ton of stuff to do before we leave tomorrow.

Until then, take care and enjoy your playdate!

Day 38. Sorry if I've been quiet here the past few days but I've been spending lots of time with my mum as she still can't drive. I'm still here though!

Refeed is going well. I had potatoes last night, and no gain on the scales this morning which is great. I could really do with some "toilet action" but nothing has happened for a few days despite taking a laxative. I took the lowest dose though, so will move up to the next dose this evening and see if that helps. Sorry if TMI!

Play date went well at my friend's house. She had made a carrot and coriander soup so I had a bowl of that followed by a cup of tea. It was nice to a) not have to avoid food and lie and b) not to break my refeed week.

Morning maintenance shakes still far too sweet so I resorted to an old Lipotrim chocolate shake this morning instead. Went down a lot easier. I suppose I'm just not used to sweet foods anymore. Which is a GREAT thing!

I had tuna and potatoes mixed into my lunch time salad, and then tonight I'll have a chicken breast salad. Tomorrow night I am going to cook myself up a low calorie meal. Looking forward to trying some recipes I drooled over whilst I wasn't eating anything!

I have taken the decision (FINALLY I hear you cry!) to continue losing weight through calorie counting with MFP. If I find myself gaining, stalling or heaven forbid, CHEATING, I will go straight to WW and whip myself back into shape. A vital part of me continuing to lose weight will also be to keep this diary up to date and honest.

In other news, I have an interview next week! It's potentially for shift work which I hadn't considered but the shifts work well in that I will have a lot of time off during the week with my little lady and we could save a but of money on childcare. The pay is also fantastic. It's only a 6 month contract but there's potential for it to be extended.

I bought an interview dress today. Not expensive but at least with the weight loss I will feel confident in an interview. The size 12 fit but was a little too "sexy" for an interview as it was showing off all my curves I have bought the 14 instead and will try it on tonight to make sure it's not too baggy.
