my granda has 2 weeks to live

am even more confused now

when we went in the doctor asked us for a word, so me and my mam went into the office the doctor (who specialises in prostate cancer) asked what we knew n if we had any questions etc n then he said we were wrong about 2 weeks and said although his cancer is not curable it is treatable, he sed he would stay in hospital for 4 weeks while he has radiotherapy n hormone therapy and then would have to take medication but would live for around another year with this hormone treatment, he explained that he was going to see the bone specialist to see how long it would take for the bones to start heeling and see how quick he could come home and about maybe gettin a back brace to help him

we were sooo happy to think we have another year, we could take him out, have a lovely christmas etc n a year is a long time

until on our way out his nurse came over n was askin if we were ok n my mam explained what the doctor had told us, she explained the doctors hadnt told the nurses anything about it, but that my granda definatly only had a couple of weeks to live as its the bone cancer that is killin him

now we dont know who to believe whether its the nurses who see him 24/7 or the doctor who should know more

he has had some more tests n should get thoses results tomorrow so after the results come back we are going to ask for a meeting to see who is right etc cos if the nurse is right then it is horrible to think our hopes have been sooo built up n then destroyed in seconds

so fingers crossed its the doctor :)

hi stacey, i am so sorry to hear of your bad news, my dad had lung cancer that spread to his bones and he lived 15 months after he was diagnosed, i would listen to the consultant not the nurse, they arn't always told everything, i was in hospital last year and had a bad hysterectomy and the nurse got me out of bed the next day as this is what is always done! The consultant was cross as i was supose to stay in bed an extra day due to how bad my op was, it was in my notes but they hadnt read them?!
so chin up, you may be surprised at the amount of time you have with him, enjoy the time no matter how long it is.
bye lv tiz

Hi Stacey,

This is a very sad and difficult time for you and I hope you get some good news and that the doctor is right.:hug99:

Stacey
In a way I know what you are going through - lost my dear dad over 2 and a half years ago.
I would listen to the consultant, spend as much time as you can with him, keep positive and keep smiling when you are around your granda.
Hugs Irene

I think it is disgusting the way you have had 2 separate pieces of information and I can totally understand why you are so confused! You really should have gone straight back to speak to the consultant after speaking to the nurse to find out what the hell is going on. I hope you get some sense out of them soon and I really hope you do have more time with him x

I hope the doctor is right babes :hug99::hug99::hug99::hug99:

So sorry to hear bout your granda and the way he has been treated hun. Get a letter of complaint out asap.
If you need to vent this is the place to get things off your chest.
Hugs to you Stacey. x x

My dad was diagnosed 10 or 11 years ago now with bone cancer and we were told the same as you, its not cureable but it would be treatable and also he would have up to a year. Thankfully the diagnosis was completely wrong (long story) but it might be worth having another chat with the consultant and asking him for more info. Is the year what he reckons your grandpa will have or is that a general prediction for that type of cancer when its diagnosed.

I hope that doesnt sound as if Im trying to make things sound bleaker than they may be, its not my intention, having been through the trauma of hearing the same news I know its a hard and confusing time

*HUGS*
