need to get my mind around weightwatchers

Because weightwatchers is so popular I keep seeing people who have "done" or "tried" weightwatchers or have been doing weightwatchers for years and years and are still the same weight. What I am looking for really is some motivation that it does really work and the weight will come off. I am a bit depressed with my weight so I am just looking for some encouragement and inspiration really...

ww is fundementally a calorie restricting and low fat diet and thus there is absolutely no reason for it to not work with anyone. by following the plan you're creating a calorie deficit, which is what is needed to lose weight. like starlight said, there are some who have failed but its not the diet, its them.

yeah i agree, WW is fundamentally a great diet. but if you lose weight without changing your attitude to food, then you will put it back on again. anyone can loose weight but it takes a strong person to keep it off longterm!

Thanks guys. I think it is such a great diet that it is almost unbelievable that you can lose weight whilst eating whatever you like!

WW works like has been said your calorie restricting and its low fat so there is no way it can't work BUT you do need to be in the right frame of mind as with all diets you need to be committed.

Hi hands up im a yoyoer WHY ?
My life has been full of pain and heartache and so I used food as a friend,a comfort,a bordum breaker so this is why the plans havent worked for me.

I think like said the only way it and any plan will work is to see it differently.

The word Diet I hate it as its stands for deprived straving hungry miserable and going it alone and no one stick at it for long.
The thing we have to get is its a Plan a life Plan and along with this there is exercise the two have to go together or we wont lose the weight long term or keep it off as we would hardly be able to eat.
People here Id think a high percentage have tried many plans as the emotional battle is hard,if you dont do your choosen plan right or domt find the right plan then its impossible to stick at it.
I had booked my gastric band consultation as I have yoyoed for 22 years but I had never said this is my life plan on any past 'diets' it was oh when I get to goal I can eat again as I was and so I did,but I also feel I hid behind my weight as I like to fade into the background as Ive been hurt by people and pain that I had from them wasnt something I wanted to experience again so I suppose being fat sucked my confidence away and then I was just a no one.
What changed? Maybe hitting 40 last year and never being what I wanted NOT FAT AT 40 or maybe realising lifes so short I deserve more for myself.
So I took a few months of NO plans then tried a few until it dawned on me that WW worked for me,I admot I struggle with 1lbs a week losses its here to see and I have bad emotional days here also to see but I dont use food to work through it now.

The only advice I could offer is get your head in place for a plan thats for life and an exercise programme that you will do daily.

Lifes too short to yoyo believe me I was 18 when I frst got on the cycle.
I still have a long journey ahead one that will be for always BUT I feel what will I do if I stop this now a life time of hiding in a body I hate ?

I have lost over 9 stone with ww by sticking strictly to the plan. I am certainly finding it hard to maintain and always will I expect! But ww def works.

I think some people do it half hearltily for years, perhaps its a social thing for them. But its not fair to say they have 'failed', after all, if it even just helps them maintain their weight and not gain more, then thats still an achievement.

Meant to add, I suspect that I would have lost that weight whatever plan I did - I was so motivated and dedicated to it. The discipline of a regular weigh in definitely helped though.
I too sometimes struggle to believe that I am going to lose ALL of my weight with ww. I've done ww before (I'm on week 2 of restart) and yes I had lost some weight last time I did it but because of my own failure in sticking to the points plan and me leaving ww my weight went back up. I am always pleasantly surprised when I read posts like the one Purplestar has written, she has lost soooo much weight and is now even UNDER goal weight, how fab is that?? and all that's been achieved on ww, and she's not the only one in that position...but 'we' can be the same...just stick to the plan..that's what i keep telling myself :) xxx Congrats Purple Star, you truely are a Star (don't know if you're purple but you're a star at least) :D xxx

Thanks everyone- your comments have really helped- and yes I need to realize that this is for life. It is all about balance and if you indulge one day you have to balance it out the next. I need to believe in myself because your words, especially size 102b's really hit a nerve with me. I don't want to get to a stage where I feel I am watching life pass me by not being the way I want to. I will definitely stick to it 100 percent and hope that all you guys on this forum will be my support in hard times. I admire you Purple Star for being able to lose so much weight and you have made me believe that it is possible :)
I think WW is the easiest thing ever. I dont mean that to sound insensitive I just find it really easy. I lost alot of weight with Lighter life a couple of years ago but pregnancy and going back to my old ways it went back on. This time because I can have anything I choose to its more empowering to feel in control. I choose what I eat not what I have to or should if that makes sense. If I want more junk say chocolate because of time of the month say, then I fill up on no point veg soup, salads, eggs, fruit etc. My choice. I love it and I dont see me eating any other way now. I save points everyday always to let my hair down a bit at the weekend. I love it honestly. I have had a loss every week too.
