New here *waves*

I joined this site this evening in the hope that I can find and talk to people who are in the same boat as me. All my friends are regular sizes and they really don't understand what it is like to look in the mirror and see what I see every day.

The only other larger person I know is very competitive about weight loss - that is not me. For me its not about anyone else - its for me. Which I guess is why I am here to meet other ppl and be inspired to kick my own self into touch by the wonderful stories here.

I've been 'big' for as long as I can remember and its a mixture or comfort eating, lazy eating and lack of keeping fit.

Nearly 7 years ago I weighed more than I do now and wore about a size 32.. I did managed to get it down through healthy eating and the gym to a size 18..

But I didn't really stick to it and the weight crept back up although I have managed to keep myself at around about a size 22 sometimes a twenty for the last few years kidding myself this was not so bad.

But I know I carry FAR too much weight for my height and I am very worried about the health affects this is going to have me now and in the future - I need to loose at least another 9-10 stone and this time I mean business:D.

I have lost some weight over the year, invested in a thread mill and am using it but I don't think I am doing enough of anything really food or fitness - as I am not seeing the results I want to see.

So today I took action, I had to visit my new GP for the first time and I went armed with a list of topics... one of which was weight loss. In my previous weight loss experience I didn't seek medical advise but this time I have chosen to if only for the support factor.

She was marvelous, she wants to help me...she didn't lecture me or look down on me , she wasn't awful - she advised me to join a weight loss club ,talked to me about food options and has set me a small target to loose and wants to see me in a month to see what next steps we can take.

Having looked around here tonight and read the post seen the before and after pictures its such an inspiration for me that I am going to do it this, time and do it properly.

I'm going to my first SW meeting next week and really looking forward to going - I decided to join SW after several recommendations from ppl already doing it and its sounds up my street.

Anyway I just wanted to thank for you for this lovely site and I look forward to being here and getting to know people.

Hi zarita - you've taken the first big step which is committing to do something and to joining the class and well done for joining before xmas - a lot of people use xmas as an excuse to put it off until the new year but i strongly believe once your head is in the right place seize the opportunity - you can still have a great xmas day following the plan and not feeling deprived - it's one day and should not be an excuse to eat badly for 2 weeks.

I think you'll find this forum really useful if you don't have friends and family who understand what you are going through as there are all sorts of people on here on every type of diet going. Some have a lot to lose, some a little, some have just started others have reached their goal so there is always someone around who can give you advise, inspiration, a kick - whatever you need at whatever time.

i wont wish you luck as i don't think luck has anything to do with it - it's about focus and committing to make a real change in 2009 which it sounds like you have.
