New to SW - Can you help?

Hi there, I'm new to the site and I started slimming world on Tuesday but there's a couple of things I'm struggling with?

Firstly I'm trying really hard to fill 1/3 of my plate with superfree food but I really hate vegetables! The smell and taste of them is making me feel sick :( Can anyone recommend a way of including vegetables in my diet without me feeling tortured?? I've been having a fruit salad before I have my meal (I LOVE my fruit!) which fills me quite a bit and therefore I'm eating less of the actual meal but I'm worrying that I'm not gonna lose much if I'm not eating my vegetables. I tried making a soup with a variety of different vegetables, a stock pot and some mixed herbs but after 2 spoonfuls I literally couldn't eat anymore.

Secondly I'm really struggling to eat my syns. It's probably just because It's my first week and I'm sure the sweet cravings will return :p I know I should be eating 5-15 syns but I haven't been eating any! I know this could affect my weight loss so any tips on having a few syns in my meals without forcing a bar of chocolate down me would be great!

Hope I'm not being a bad newbie and repeating any threads here? I've looked through quite a few but couldn't find the answers. Thanx for your help and I'm loving the site! :D

Hi Natalie.
Welcome to SW and this forum, take a look through the recipes on this site, there are hundreds of them.
Do you like butternut squash? if so there are curries, soups & roasts for them.
Could you eat veg if it was oven roasted instead of boiled?
When I started I modified all my favourite food recipes to SW versions, this made me continue to target.
Good luck and keep posting......
Pete
p.s. check the link below for ideas.....

Do you hate vegetables on their own or in meals all together? Because I hate veg too but often find it easier to eat if its hidden in a meal for example I made a lush bangers and mash pie last night and cut the veg up really small and mixed it with passata, sausages, stock and mixed beans and you couldn't even see or taste them!:)

I think you should definately try and have your Syns as otherwise your body will eventually feel deprived of food and the whole point of slimming world is basicaly a balanced diet which must must must still include some fats/sugars :) If you don't want to eat chocolate that's fine, why not try dried fruit or nuts which are still Syns but you might not feel as guilty, or use them for things like sausages, burgers, things you put into meals or sauces such as tomato ketchup, bbq sauce etc

I hope this helped! Good luck with your journey xxxxx

brilliant answers already but i want to say that try to follow an exact recipe.. when ur not into vegs and u try and invent a dish it might be horrible anyway but because u already not so keen on veg it might make u hate them even more but its the fault of the recipe (or lack of).

you can use syns on full fat yogurt, olive oil, avocado, more cheese, honey, extra bread or cereal (crunchy cereal bar maybe?) or latte/hot chocolate.
but make sure to check the syns!
try different varieties of vegs..there must be at least one type u like..or cover it n cheesy sauce (synned)

Hi there. It's ok to eat fruit if it's before your meal it can still count as your 1/3 but they do say that veg is prob better and like others if you can't manage them in their naked state dress them up eg in a tomato sauce made with passata or tinned tomatoes and lots of herbs. Though you can't smoothie your fruit or it becomes synned you can purée veg so it can become a sauce. Or just have salads if you can manage them. Other ways to use syns rather than eating snacks or sweets: extra virgin olive oil 5 syns instead of fry light. If you have the salads you could use olive oil to make a dressing. You could have more bread or crisp breads and syn them. Or you could have some measured cheese or a glass of wine if you like to drink. There are lots of ways to incorporate them into meals so that they just become additions to cooking. No need to start snacking if that's not your style. Agree with post before that it is recommended that you use them as they are an integral part of the diet, even if you only manage 5 a day. Good luck with it all.

Hi everyone and thanx so much for replying.

Pete, I haven't actually tried oven roasting my vegetables yet so think I'll give that a go!

CatherineLouisa I think I'm gonna be like you and have to find ways to hide my veg! I made a cottage pie using the SW recipe and put lots of carrots and tomatoes and things in and hardly noticed so I think this may be the way to go for me :)

Dreams, I didn't even think of having full fat yoghurt for my syns. There's a few yoghurts I like that aren't free so that'll make a nice change to the Muller lights. Thanx :D

Peacelily, I'm yet to try pureed vegetables and use them as a sauce so that'll be the next thing I try too.

Great you've got some new ideas. Minimins is great for that. I'm not sure I'd have stuck to it if it wasn't for this forum. Happy synning!
