not long to go now.....see through hand luggage

Im flying from Gatwick to Paphos on 23rd August and wonder if they have relaxed the hand luggage rules at all.

1. Can I bring my hand bag as hand luggage or does it need to be a see thru carrier bag
2. Can I bring books to read
3. My sons inhaler isnt in the original box with the prescription info on...will he be allowed it on the plane.

They keep changing the guidelines and the gatwick information site says what you cant take but dosnt mention books or whether the actual bag has to be transparent or not.
