Haven't posted properly for quite some time....fell off the wagon somewhat following bit of a disastrous time family-wise. Protracted illness and unfortunate demise of my husband's great-uncle meant that we were never sure where we would we be sleeping from one day to the next, as we had to be there to look after my husband's grandpa - particularly following the death of his brother-in-law and best friend of 60 years!! Grandpa has been in a real state, very depressed and tearful at the drop of a hat (he's basically got no-one else apart from the two of us now....his son and wife live abroad and rarely come to visit). It's only the last 3 weeks that we've come home really, and that was enforced by me having knee surgery - before that we just didn't feel we could leave him on his own.
So....that's the run-up to my question...... When we called grandpa last night, to see how he's been, he told us he'd had someone come to the house and he's decided to buy himself a fantastic new bed (bearing in mind he won't even let us replace the mattress in the room we sleep in at his house....and we've probably had to spend the cost of a replacement mattress on physio treatment for bad backs...
)....apparently it's some kind of vibrating mattress topper (we don't know the exact details), the bloke showed him all his cards (NHS cards???
) and it'll be purpose made for him. Hmmmmmm..... The worst thing is the cost - £1700!!!!

We have a dreadful feeling he's been conned (we're just hoping he didn't go and find the cash from somewhere in the house!!). We can't find the company anywhere on the net and just cannot believe the cost. We're off over there shortly to see him and (hopefully) look at the paperwork(if there is any!?!).
I just thought it might be worth asking you all if anyone else has heard of the company.....or the beds?
We're hoping against hope he hasn't been conned BUT we are also EXTREMELY worried about how easily he's been parted with such a large sum of money. He's 76 and usually in full possession of all his faculties, but he does get carried away by the shopping channels etc on tv. How do we approach this? How would you approach this? Obviously we can't take his bank books away from him, nor do we want to, but we also can't be there all the time to make sure these things don't happen. He is SO conscious of the price of fuel and food etc, and is always talking about how little money he has (not true), but parts with such large amounts for silly things he's seen on tv.
Or are we worrying for no reason?
