Orlistat Journey

Thank you blatent bunny,
I have to say having read a bit about Orlistat I was kinda dreading the bad effects of it but hoorah so far so good no problems.
Now i just need to be patient for the results so heres hoping ....
just one thing do you know if there is a guideline as to how much fat can be eaten per day preferably in grams before the bad things kick in or does it depend on the individual, e.g
if one was to eat a small cube of cheese am I gonna pay later or is it just if one goes a bit mad on bad foods??
xx

I'm told the MAX is 30g a day over three meals, BUT I've also been told the less the better, I'm sticking to about 15g a day MAX and, so far, haven't had any bad experiences, certainly after the BBQ and such I was a little more urgent to the loo, and there was an oil on the surface of the water but nothing horrific!

I'm not a cheese fan, but I have had a small amount on pitta bread pizzas I've made and nothing major to report, but I certainly think its individual.

Take it one day at a time and one meal at a time is all I'd say count the fat per meal and see how you react.

thank you blatent bunny for your advice I think thats more or less what Ive been sticking to. I am so pleased with my experience so far and am starting to see results on the scales already! :)

Fantastic!

Stick up a ticker and keep coming back, it's amazing to see it go down. :)

What's you target weight?

Bunny x

hi im not very techie and not sure Ive done this ticker thingy correctly!! Ive added the one i created to my previous post so thats what Im aiming for. The ticker shows progress since starting RC classes which Im doing alongside the Orlistat as had to prove that could lose some weight before starting. I will keep you updated with progress and will keep coming back. Thanks for your encouragement :)

ooo it did seem to work!!!!

Hello again!

I've been to visit family in Glasgow these last few days and while I've been good, I've been socialising so tomorrow will be a day of realisation I think!

I was a little stunned to find such a limited choice of frozen veg in the Iceland in the east end of Glasgow, so much so I commented on it at the check-out to the manager, his reply was to look blankly at me and say, we have veg in the mince pies if that helps....... Er, no, it doesn't.....

Hoping the weathers inspiring you all as much as it is me, I'm sweating less and not feeling like the whale that got lost in the Thames a while back!

ALSO, get chirpy wee me! I bought a size EIGHTEEN, that's 18, cord jeans from Tesco, so I'm a very happy Bunny ATM. :)

Well done on getting your size 18s :):) and  at your experience in Iceland....the southside of Glasgow has no such problems:p;)

Well I'm another 3lb down this week and the sun is STILL shining!

Hope all you Orlistatees are feeling positive and focused!

Hello Blatentbunny hope you're well congratulations on the loss and the size 18s I am really pleased for you. xx

Well done Blatent :D
I have my monthly weigh a week tomorrow, but so far I've lost 4½ lbs in 3 weeks, which is a lot less than in recent months. However its almost TOTM for me, and I've still lost where I used to put on what with fluid retention. Hopefully once TOTM is over and done with, I'll get a good weight loss in time for my weigh in ;) :D
Today I went shopping for tops for my holidays and bought size 22/24, was thrilled with that :D

I'm creeping off to see my GP on the 14th, I'm lost as to when I'm due 'on' now as my pill packets all messed up, I spend the weekend at my OH's and he has all I need there, so we just pop on the train and that's that...... so I'm confused! I did feel as if I could have mugged a small child I saw with a fudge in the local park the other day at lunch time, so i might just be about to start! :)

Congratulations on the tops Ali and H2S that's a VERY healthy weight loss you've got in your signature! You go girl go!

In the cupboard

Hiya,
I got Orlistat in desperation a while ago but bottled out of taking it! I suffer from IBS and didn't want another reason to pooh through the eye of a needle!
My GP has agreed to weigh me every month( I have a LOT of weight to lose!) and has set her computer to beep at her if I miss an appointment!
It would be great to know how you get on with the Dreaded Pooh Pills!
Good Luck:)

Hi Fizzio :) I was really really apprehensive about taking Orlistat and I don't even have IBS lol. However I'm really glad I took the step. Hand on heart I've had no side effects whatsoever, not even a cheeky wee fart ;) As long as you keep your daily fat grammes low, you shouldn't have any side effects at all :)
Good luck and let us know how you get on :)
xx

Hello Fizz,

I DO have IBS, or I should say I did suffer from it, the Orlistat have actually helped me a lot, I can now, wait for it, fart.

I've regulated the intake of fats, I've changed the way I look at food in a way that years of IBS suffering hadn't taught me to do and I'm more confident.

I started off very slowly taking in hardly any fat at all, but I now know I can create a meal and the content won't upset me or cause loose bowel movements.

Why not take it slowly at home over the first few days, time your meals and digestion rate and stay to a known toilet friendly route?

What do you have to lose? Only weight. :)

Hi Fizzio, I am also taking Orlistat (also got in desperation) at the moment and have been for about a month although I did miss some whilst I was on hols. I can honestly say that they have caused me no problems at all, so long as I stick to low fat food for meals, take the tablets and if I get hungry in between eat something that has negligible fat content I am finding that they are working. I did have one bout of diaorrhea but I know why that was and learnt my lesson.
I also have a lot to lose and have to go back to the GP each month (have just been back after 1 month and shes pleased with me so far) but I think this is good as I find having someone else weighing me is a big help. SHe has given me a further months supply and I have to go bakc in a month but she did say in a couple more months I can see her less and go to the nurse instead. Pls let us know how you get on x

Hey folks. Been reading the thread with interest. I've been on Xenical about 3 times but could never eat low enough fat to avoid the 'tango effect' (shame on me :giggle:).

I did manage to lose a stone in about 8 weeks Jan 2006 then came off them in April to do LL (lighterlife). I must have done something right those 8 weeks, can't remember exactly what but it must've been 3 meals a day, fruit and yoghurt for snacks.

Anyway you're all doing fab, so keep up the good work :)

Hello again!

Now coming to you from sunny Denmark the land of limited fat free foods!

Well it's been a while, and there've been a few ups and downs, not sure if I mentioned I'd self referred to the Dietary Services at my local GP's, it only took them three months to get back to me, by which time I'd set up a support group, found you lot of angels and dropped a couple of stone in weight!

It was on the whole a horrendous experience that could have actually caused me to forget the whole thing if my GP wasn't so good.

The dietitian was rude, unhelpful, negative and totally unapproachable. At one point she said my goal of 10 stone 7 pounds was unrealistic! I walked out.

I also had one episode of 'the tango effect' I don't know why, all I know is it was horrible! :-D I was glued to the toilet for nearly 24 hours and my bum cheeks were clenched so tight i squeaked when I waddled! All this happened, you guessed it, at the OH's and not at home in my comfort zone. He was very good about it, he's loving my weight reduction, not that he'll love me any more at the end, or so he tells me!

That was the downs, so all in all nothing major to report. I've been reading the threads, and cheering along with everyone at the wonderful stories and sending good thoughts to those who're struggling at the moment, it'll pass, you know it will deep down. :)

My good points are firstly I'm trapped on a farm with a 20 minute walk to the nearest shop, so there is NO chance of falling off the wagon for a while, I'm here until September! and secondly the people I know here who haven't seen my since last year either walk past me or are stunned at the reduction. It's rather nice!

I stopped taking my tablets for three days prior to travelling, with the agreement of my GP, and have a bumper supply while I'm here. I also found out you can ask your doctor to give you information to register with Roche (the suppliers of Orlistat/Xenical) and they'll send you a pack, but more importantly, they'll give you a support line number and will call you to check on your progress.

On my last visit to my GP she also gave me a print out of my weigh lose to date. It was a lovely surprise and looking at it made me feel VERY proud. You lot should as well.

Take care Orlistatees!

Bunny x
