pcos and a baby

Yes it's worth a go as there are a few options before ivf if he can't prescribe it he should refer u to a specialist that can :) x

oh right, thanks for that.

Do i have to be a certain weight for that as well? Should i get down to my goal weight first or just make an appointment to see him? xxx :)

Its the Fertility Clinic that prescribes Clomid i was told, but they wont accept referrals under BMI of 30..your Docs job is to Gather all the Data (blood tests, results of pelvic exam, possibly results from OH sample Etc) then they refer you on to the baby making clinic who's first thing will be to prescribe Clomid...they can monitor you throughout and know a LOT more than your GP...then if all else fails other options will be explored...not that ive been nagging my Doctor or anything. :) xx

it takes around 6 weeks for a refferal hun, so what i personally would do is leave it till you think you are realistically 6 weeks away from what ou need to be, based on the rate of loss you have had through your journey...Then yeah, go bug your doctor :) I had a fab one before i put all the weight back on, i was nearly there, all tests done, then we moved, had to change docs..then the weight came on..new docs wouldnt even start the tests needed to be reffered :( xx

Information is power! It's such a shame some drs are rubbish of ur chubby. I was fobbed off for a long time before they even started thinking about helping me out (and that was before baby making ideas!) I think drs need more knowledge about PCOS and treatments!

Definatley, When i gained the weight back and my symptoms got worse as a result i knew exactley what i had to do, because us ladies know ourselves better than Mr Quack...i went into new doctor, told her i was now losing again and how, and needed to resume metformin ( a drug thats been used for 15 yrs to treat PCOS) for my symptoms straight away with a view to lose enough and calm things down so i could concieve...Response as follows.
"Metformin?"
"Yes Metformin, Ive had positive experiences with it in the past"
"well I Havnt got the experience in treating PCOS with what you are asking for to give you it straight away Gemma"
"well I have 15 years of HAVING PCOS to tell you its fine and its the best thing for my and without it at this weight my symptoms make me very miserable indeed, as well as making losing weight to improve them very hard indeed"
"well im sorry Gemma im going to have to so some more research and speak to a specialist before i can go ahead and give you a script, if you make an appointment for four weeks we will discuss this again"...

Left room, entered car..cried for 3 minutes :) xx

It's crazy isn't it. Oh well I think I means we have to do all we cn ourselves and there is alot of over the counter supplements and vits that are fantastic also I don't know about anyone else but I find I have to stay 100% on any diet and stay away from sugar or my symptoms go mental and my pelvic pain flares up. Bloody gps but it gives us the power to take matters in to our own hands!

I have a positive story too. I started ttc at 26. Pcos meant no luck so tried various things. Metformin, clomid, iui a few times. Then finally I lost a couple of stone around my 30th birthday and combined with this I tried ivf. I was still 2 or 3 stone overweight though. Ivf worked first time and I am now coming up to my 40th birthday and I have 8 year old twin boys. Good luck to all starting out this tough journey which is so worth it in the end x

I have another positive story.....I suffer from all the symptoms quite badly......I was under a fab doctor who really helped me to loose weight - prescribed metformin and organised a specialist appointment for the Feburary - i managed to catch on in the November prior .....and to be honest we only DTD like 2 times in the OV period and i was shocked!!

I was 16 stone when i conceived i had lost 2 1/2 stone to get to the 16stone so even a bit of a loss could do it for you!!!
x

Thanks for sharing these positive stories. I was diagnosed at 15. I am now married and we are desperate for a child. We have been ttc for about 3 years. I really need to lose weight and reading positive outcomes after losing weight has been a kick up the bum! Thank you xx

New to this, I hope I can at least manage to post! Lol. Hello everyone,
I see some of you are talking about ivf, meds, and I just wanted to share my experience. My husband and I were trying to conceive for 5+ years. In nov/2010 I decided to start dieting and taking supplements. I read on other PCOS boards about the benefits of vitamin c,d and inositol. I started taking those daily along with a woman's multivitamin. I cut the sugar out of my diet ( basically modified Atkins diet, although I did not limit my veggie intake). I started drinking spearmint tea twice a day for 15 days out of the month starting on the first day of my period. Less than 3 months later I was pregnant. I don't know what did it, or if it was luck. But I do feel that the inositol played a big part.

FYI, I lost a small bit of weight before I found out I was pregnant. I still was, and am, considerably overweight. 16 + st, 5'7. Hope this helps. X
