PCOS, Metformin and VLCDS

Hi all
I am about to re-start LL. I lost 3 stone with them 2yrs ago and unfortunately Ive put back 2 of them :cry:. I have since discovered I have PCOS and have been given Metformin 500mg TDS for this. My G.P states its perfectly fine to start LL as Metformin will have no effect on my blood sugars as I am not diabetic. Are there any peeps out there who are currently on Metformin and VLCDs?

I take Metformin for the same reason. When I went to the g.p.for medical consent for cambridge she told me to stop taking the Metformin. I think as long as your doctor has advised you then you should be ok. If you are worried, I would see another gp for a second opinion..

Hi Laura, I tried LL a few years ago and was taking Metformin at the time - my doctor also advised me to stop taking the Metformin. As previously you could always speak to another GP.

I was on metformin but stopped taking it when I got pregnant, I'm on a VLCD so don't see the point in taking it as the symptoms should ease the more weight I lose, hopefully the hairy chins with it!

I'd get a second opinon! Good luck on your journey! x

I'mm on a VLCD as well. My specialist didn't forbid the use of metformin while on VLCD; all she said was that VLCDs were as good an idea as any to lose weight.
