Does anyone use pearl barley? I'm assuming it's free on a green day cos it's a pulse/grain but not sure how to use it. Does it take long to cook when you add it to a stew?
Are there no instructions on the bag? There should be. Must admit that I've only ever used it in soup but now I've looked into it I quite fancy this recipe
I made a fantastic jamie oliver recipie a few weeks ago with pearl barley. I used fry light & chicken not partridge. Made a lovely change to rice or pasta or spuds with a meal.
Just chuck it in with all the other ingredients just before adding the stock to bring to the boil! It should cook beautifully in time with everything else! I love the texture and of course it's really healthy...and free!! I love anything that's freeeeee!!! XXX
I add mine to home made soup on a green day. I boil it for approx 15 mins and then throw a load in! It's really filling! Like the idea of putting it in bolognese sauce, will def be trying that!
