So, I've been obese for around 7 years now (I'm 23), and at the New Year I started my new healthy eating and exercise plan to lose weight.
I am worried about the damage these years have done to my body, and particularly concerned that I might now have endocrine problems, elevated insulin levels, high blood pressure, prediabetes, fatty liver, or a number of other obesity-related issues. I know that I have PCOS and this condition which is embarrassing, but could there be worse to come?
I am too ashamed to go to the GP at my current size (14st 9lbs) so my master plan is to go when I'm out of the obesity bracket (12st or below) and ask for diabetes screening, blood tests, blood pressure check etc - basically a full obesity-recovery health check. The thought of these things makes me incredibly scared - and what do I do if the GP refuses the tests for some reason? I can't imagine that I'll be able to just march up and say, "Hey, I used to be really fat, test me for XYZ now", but I need some peace of mind. Who should I speak to? Where can I have these tests?
Amy.
