Second Time on Slimming World, First Time doing a Diary

Hi everyone..

This is the first time I've done a diary or anything like this really. Something that everybody can see sort of thing. I've done Slimming World before and lost a stone and a half, Just over a year has passed now and I've put a stone back on. Makes all that hard work seem pointless really.

So like I always say, and like everyone says. This time is it, I really want to change my life. I've just started a new job after finishing university so I have a good routine now, and a pretty active job so im hoping that combined with slimming world and the gym will work for me this time.

I'm also a fixed shift worker, so i'll have to swap groups every other week... and have 5 day, then 9 day weeks... so that should be interesting!

I know Slimming World works, and I know it's basically healthy eating - I don't understand how I can't just follow it all the time!! But here's to trying again anyway. I've really only been going for 2 days at the moment, and I'm finding it pretty easy right now - but I suppose I would being new and motivated!

Anyway I guess thats a pretty big first entry - I havent decided how regularly I want to write on this yet... i'll decide as I go along I suppose!

Bye for now! xXx

Basically forced by work to break SW today...

Today did not go so well... and the thing that angers me the most about it is that it wasn't really my fault.

I'm a support worker in a mental health hospital and i work on a secure unit..so no bringing our own lunch onto the ward. We eat lunch with the patients and so we order our (free) lunch from the kitchen and it is brought up with the patients lunch.
Now to be Slimming World friendly I have the choice of a ham/chicken salad, or the same on a jacket potato (or jacket and beans)...

So when I went in today I went on a last minute escort, this means that I had to spend the day out on leave at home with a patient and their family. SO.. no chance to put in an order for lunch, the packed lunch I got for the day was all cheese and something sandwiches and I had no oppertunity to get anything SW friendly AND I had already used my HexB on toast with light philly for breakfast!!

When i got to the family home they cooked lunch for me (pasta bake a dolmio sauce)... and at this point my lunch choice was a cheese and something packet sandwich, or a pasta bake (with a shop sauce) with salad. I felt it would be rude to turn down the pasta in that situation so I had that... and then they bring out and serve me dessert as well! Again I felt like it would be rude to not have a bit - I honestly honestly am still so fresh onto SW that I didn't want or enjoy the food - but I had to eat it.

Absolutely gutted as this is my first week, I know I tend to get a big loss in my first week and because of my shifts this is a particularly short week as well!

I did come back and have an SW friendly dinner though, I just hope that it doesn't really wreck my weight loss, as to not lose in the first week would really hit my motivation..

Hello!
Don't worry about the food that you ate, the pasta was probably the best option as you can easily find out the syns of the sauce!
Dont be dissappointed if your loss isn't that big, a loss is a loss at the end of the day and I'm sure you can pull it back if your goof for the rest of the week!
Don't be too harsh on yourself, we all have temptation and times where we can't control what we eat ( I went to a restaurant where they refused to replace chips with a jacket potato meaning I had to have chips!)
Good luck!

Dont let that get to you, you picked the best option, you can find the syns out and deduct it from you allowance and im sure you will still lose this week which is better than putting on, i bet you do better than you think! chin up :)

Hi ladies,

Thanks for your responses... in the end I just kind of wrote the meal off. I crossed off some syns (I can't even remember how many now) and forgot about it. I got weighed today and I lost 3lbs! Which is good considering it was a short week. However I went to see a show in Brighton last night and ended up being stuck on what to eat again, i tried to eat before but we left about 4 and I got home about midnight... so I had to eat something! The only option I got given was a fish and chip shop.. not good!! But I went to the gym this morning which will hopefully help! and I've had a good food day today to - and have no more events planned that could interfere!

I've decided it might help me to plan my meals the day before, because I've noticed there are days where I might go without my HE's or want to have two A's or two B's (I'm doing Extra Easy)... so that's my aim for this week.

For tomorrow I'm thinking...

Breakfast: 2 Slices of WW Brown Bread with 35g light philly (half a HeA.. I do this because a) 35g of philly is a lot as it is for 2 peices of toast and b) chances are when i work i'll drink 1 or 2 cups of tea, so allow for milk in that.

Lunch: Chicken Salad (chicken, boiled egg, cucumber, tomato, lettuce, rice) - courtesy of work, a salad without coleslaw is about the only thing on the menu of free lunches I can actually eat! - although I might try a jacket potato with ham tomorrow, and see how many syns are in one of those little tubs of margarine you get!

Dinner: I'm undecided... perhaps a fillet steak and veg as we have some steaks in the fridge. Normally i'd have a grilled lean pork or turkey steak but we've run out of those. or if I have the jacket at work then i'll have a salad for dinner!

I'm feeling very positive about this week! :)

Does anyone else know of any other quick breakfasts that don't use all my HE's at once? The only other thing I tend to have is microwave scrambled eggs.

well done on the loss! That fab!
Could you try having an omelette for breakfast? or if you like bacon, you could have a fried/poached/scrambled egg with some bacon and/or beans or tomatoes?
xx

Hi everyone!
@drama_queen - I LOVE eggs! If I had the time to make omlettes/ scrambled eggs in the morning I would! Sometimes I make them in the microwave if I have the time.. I was reading an article about a Jockey who said his favorite breakfast was frozen berries with milk poured over it? I feel like if I changed that to unsweetened soya milk (because its quite creamy) and added some splenda... that would kind of taste like an eton mess! So i'm going to try that when I get round to buying some frozen berries - i'll let everyone know how that goes!

So I went off the rails a little bit, genuinly forgot to go to WI last week - then it kind of slipped from there. So today I went to face the music and see the damage. To my amazement in the 2 weeks i'd lost 3lbs!! Which means I've lost 6lbs in 3 weeks.. obviously I am very pleased! Even though at my lightest with SW I was 13lbs lighter than this - I really thought it would take me a long time to get to where I am now - slimmest I have been for a while! It's made me really motivated to keep moving forward.

However - I have to point out that my losing 3lbs was probably not down to me. Infact I'm suprised I lost anything I expected to gain! I think what it is is my new job - it's very active. I do a lot of walking patients places, and a lot of walking up stairs! So I'm really pleased with that. It's got me thinking how well I can do if I stick to SW as well as the shock to my system of the new job!

Also, before I had my appendix out about 3 months ago now, I was really fit - not necasserily slim but I was doing well at the gym. I went back to a spinning class this morning and found it so difficult! It feels horrible that my fitness has completely diminished! Because I do like the gym, and I like seeing my fitness improve. Not just for slimming but just for general good health. So I'm aiming to get my fitness levels back up to.

I've decided in order to really help me stick to the plan this week (although I have said this before) - I am going to spend some time planning meals ahead. Just so that I use all my syns and HE's effectively!

Thanks for your replies - it's nice to know people are reading :)

hi hun first welcome to minmins and well done on ur losses so far, have you tried butter buds from lakeland plastics (or on e-bay) they r little sachets of powdered "butter" ideal for jacket pots and r only 0.5 syns. breakfast wise if i am doing extra easy i have fruit & fat free yoghurt so i can save my h/e for bread or a hi-fi bar, i actually prefer to follow red or green so i get 2 of each h/e. good luck losing the lbs x

Valerie - that powdered butter idea sounds brilliant! I'll definitely look it up! To be honest I work on a secure ward so I can't bring stuff in, and theres no where to store stuff. But they would definitely be good for at home! Because I've done SW before it's rare I hear of anything new these days - so Thank You!! x
