Want to shed pounds? Go to Weight Watchers, not your GP | Mail Online

A study of hundreds of British slimmers found those who went to a commercial slimming group for three months lost twice as much weight as those who were given diet advice by their family doctor.
Paul Aveyard, a GP and a professor of behavioural medicine, said rather than trying to treat fat patients themselves, GPs should send them to commercial sessions, paid for by the NHS.

Its not surprising really. Have you ever had advice from the GP on weight loss? I have had to listen to some right rubbish! Including the following over the years
1) Cut of carbs completely.
2) Liquidise all your food as it fills you up more.
3) The most recent - swap between SW/WW/RC every 3 months so your body doesn't get used to one diet.

Muppets - all of them.

When I was struggling with my eating disorder, my GP told me to join WW. It crushed me! They're always quite happy to tell me that I need to lose weight but rarely have any real advice to offer.

At least things like SW, WW & what not offer you continued support & help you to learn portion control.
