SW caused my health issues according to doctor?

it sounds like gallstones - I had gallstones and had never dieted before then ? They used to say (whomever THEY are?) that gallstones was because of a fatty diet and/'or too much calcium deposits in the body??? - I had 29 gallstones in my gallbladder at the age of 21 years old! Exceptionally painful and because I couldn't eat ANYTHING in the end without severe pain and rolling around on the floor I went down to 7 stones from about 11.5 stones in 12 months.

SW couldn't possibly have CAUSED you to be ill - you may have already had gallstones and don't experience the pain when following a low fat diet but when you have something that is higher in fat/sugar - or fills your stomach you then experience the pain? I am not medically qualified - but I really cannot see how the doctors can say that SW caused you to be ill - have they seen the plan?

It's good wholesome foods - plenty fruit and veg and the 'odd' treats.

Hope you are feeling much better very quickly - if it is gallstones - then I know how painful it is.

Pfft, I'm a nurse on a gastroenterolgy ward, and I've never in all my years heard one of our consultants or doctors say that being on a diet would give you liver problems.

Personally, I had gallstones before and have since had it removed, and my billirubin was high and I experienced very bad abdominal pains every time I ate something fatty. The yellow in your eyes (jaundice) could be caused by the stones getting stuck in your bile ducts, meaning that the bile can't drain out properly increasing your levels of bilirubin & causing you to turn yellow. The stone can push back into the gallbladder until it contracts again and pops the stone out, causing the pain/jaundice again.

Personally, we all know that following a healthy diet is essential for our bodies to be well, healthy. I don't see how following SW could give you liver problems, unless you're not eating anything and using all your syns etc on alcohol. I take it you're eating a lot of fruit and vegetables?

I had gallstones a few years ago, after I lost my first 4 stone, and it was put down to my new healthy diet, basically my body wasnt used to it..Not once did they tell me that I should stop my new healthy lifestyle. Unfortunatly for me it took me over a year to actually get this diagnosed by which time I had acute jaundice, and had damage to my liver. I now have a stent in and have had the gall bladder removed, but still have to watch my fatty or spicey food intake.

I would say its related to the fatty food hun and they should be getting you to watch your intake of that not tell you to eat more by stopping sw.
you can't win hun if you wasn't on sw they would tell you you need to lose weight when you try its the diet fault.
hope they find a answer hun

Woah, this pretty scary stuff!! I think the replies saying SW Is unlikely to have caused problem are 100% right!! Although I think it really does highlight the importance of using it as a 'lifestyle change' rather than a fad diet!! It's not sensible to get our bodies used to healthy wholesome food, only to regularly binge and go crazy on fatty foods, our bodies just get confused and aren't good at dealing with it!!

Although we all love a takeaway every now and then!

A little of what you fancy...

Good luck with your journey, don't stress too much aboutvthe doc's opinion Hun, you've got common sense, you know that a diet rich in fruit, veg, wholegrain and lean protein can't be bad!!

:) Rhi Bro :)

Just wanted to add my sympathy. I have had gallstone issues shortly after having my son 7 years ago and I know how much it hurts.

One of the reasons that I am doing SW is to lose weight so I can have my gallbladder removed. Though since starting SW my attacks have lessoned.

Thanks all for the info and the replies. I really sort of hope it is gallstones and that they just didnt appear on the scan. I have an appointment with liver specialist in 2 weeks, I will bring it up about slimming world and see what she says this time.

hi there, ihave gallstones which i am currently waiting for surgery on, your pain is exactly like mine! (as everyone else as said) you say they done an ultra sound and there was nothing there which can be the case you can have something like a sludge that sits in the gall bladder but isnt always clear on an ultra sound i think you said you had an MRI which wil hopefully sort it out.

as for SW "causing" your problems i doubt it but if it is gallstones "crash dieting" i.e. loosing more than 1lb a week is a known trigger in fact its said to be one of the causes, along with being overweight and female, amongst others. what caused mine was dieting whilst also taking orlistat (SP) or alli. so my consultant says anyway!

let us all know how you get on with tests etc! good luck x

I had gallstones many years ago, when I was in my early 20s, so it is perfectly feasible to have them young. It was the most awful pain! I lost weight gradually, and stuck to a healthy diet and they dispersed on their own (or at least they stopped giving me problems!)

SW is Def not the cause of your prob ;)If its gallstones they are made of calcium &cholesterol buildup,
.I had my gallbladder removed 2 years ago. Initially I was treated for acid reflux and suspected ulcers....but the endoscopy came back clear.
The pains got so bad that within 15 mins of eating certain foods I would be on my knees in agony and had to make myself sick to try relieve the pain...Id burn up in a cold sweat and The pain was sooooo bad (well anyone whos had them will know just how bad it is :()

I was taken by Ambulance twice to A&E before being diagnosed....the 1st time my liver tests were so bad they asked if I was a drug user or alchoholic!! (Im not a drinker except on holidays & xmas really) It was only then they decided to send me back to my doc to arrange an Ultrasound for gallstones.

I had the gallbladder removed then one week later I got the same awful pain???? no gallbladder how can that be? Back to hosp as I had a raging Temp and throwing up, Id got an infection in the wound so I needed some anti B's but they wanted me in overnight to monitor me....the pains ebbed away and I felt ok again so they sent me home-we walked in the door and half hour later after my tea and buttered toast I dropped to the floor! back to the hosp:eek: this time the pains didnt stop so they sussed out I had a stone or more in my bile duct (turns out it was 3)and needed a procedure under xray and sedation to remove them as I was showing signs of pancreatitius.

Id rather give birth to a small elephant with no pain relief than have gallstone pain again !

stupid question, but if gall stones are calcium build up, and since the HeA is to make sure you get enough calcium, if you never used to have cheese / milk etc daily but now are, could that be a contributing cause?

Don't know coljack, but I had about the same amount of dairy stuff before I started SW as I do now following the plan.

Irishchica, I think i will google that - unless it's like starving yourself and drinking weird stuff, I may try it. I've been in agony today again, was really looking forward to today as had family over, but spent the day rolling around in agony or being sick with the oramorph they gave me. really am concerned now, i just want them to tell me i have gallstones so i can rule out all the other nasty stuff i hvae been reading on goodle!!!
